This year's gin?

Hi all,
Two years ago the "must have" gin was Harris gin, it came in a gorgeous bottle. I'm looking again for a new gin for a wonderful friend. Don't mind cost, could be up to £70 (but preferably less).
Thanks

This is a great small producer that your friend probably hasn't tried McLean's Gin: www.mcleansgin.co.uk/
I remember there being an article about them being the smallest gin producer in Scotland.

Mermaid gin from the Isle of Wight has a beautiful bottle. The gin is not bad either!

WhatAreWordsWorth · 21/10/2020 11:59

I just ordered a bottle of Harris gin yesterday!

They have a couple of lovely limited edition bottles this year too.

diamondpony80 · 21/10/2020 12:32

Was in M&S yesterday looking for their Christmas rhubarb gin liqueur for a present but they only had the clementine one. I know liqueur isn't the same but the light up snow globe bottles are lovely: www.marksandspencer.com/c/food-to-order/adventures-in-food/christmas-gin

Sacred tree, wild island gin. Beautiful bottle, delicious gin and my go to treat bottle.

cyclingwife · 21/10/2020 18:10

Thanks everyone I wasn't ignoring you I just didn't receive any notifications that people have commented!

My friend loves scottish gin and so I'll definitely check out Mcleans gin, thanks @MrsHSW and the limited editions of harris gin, thanks @WhatAreWordsWorth

I am definitely tempted by the beautiful bottles and so will check out the mermaid gin too, thanks @BeepBoopBop

@diamondpony80my friend isn't into the liqueurs but the clementine one is definitely on my christmas list for me Grin

@Lockdownhairdontcare I love the bottle of sacred tree and the botanicals look just up my street. I may have to buy a bottle to check it out first before Christmas. Thanks Grin

Rock Rose gin is made in Caithness, in the far north of Scotland. They do a lovely spiced winter edition, and refills too.

AcornAutumn · 21/10/2020 18:32

🎤This year’s gin, it better last

And I hope it has lime

I’ve been drinking Gordon’s for too long

And there’s Bombay Sapphire too

Sipsmith’s open right now

Start to forget bout the Tanqueray

What more can I say

For me, Hendricks, all the way 🎤

Sorry, I have no actual suggestions!

OnCandyStripeLegs · 21/10/2020 18:33

My favourite gin is Brecon gin penderyn.wales/brecon-gin/

And I notice they have chocolate orange gin, and rhubarb and cranberry both of which sound very Christmassy.

jocktamsonsbairn · 21/10/2020 22:39

Arran gin is so lovely with a slice of orange in the tonic. From the island of Arran.
Also love Isle of Barra gin too and they do some special online offers.,

cailingaelach · 21/10/2020 23:49

Check out Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, it's absolutely gorgeous. Lovely bottle too.

Crackery · 22/10/2020 08:15

Harris Gin are doing special. Edition jn handmade pottery bottles- that would be a stunning gift.

This gin is fabulous and also has a brilliant bottle... Glaswe Gin

Newoneforthis28 · 22/10/2020 08:17

Best gins I've ever tasted are from Loch Ness Spirits (especially the Legend one). They pick their botanicals from their own land right beside the distillery. Bottle is gorgeous too and comes well packed with a lovely booklet about the gin

speakout · 22/10/2020 08:24

I will buy locally.

There are a dozen gin companies near me, I prefer to buy direct from a small company, many who grow their own botanicals, bottle using local design and label producers, selling direct or in small local shops
I have hundreds of local gins.

Secre Garden Gin is my favourite at the moment

This is my favourite, it's quite liquoricey though www.inthewelshwind.co.uk/product/eccentric-cardiff-dry/

goose1964 · 22/10/2020 18:49

Just noticed on their website that you can do a bespoke one.

These are £18 in M&S I've bought some as presents 🎁

Meepmeeep · 22/10/2020 19:23

House of Elrick (Aberdeen) Kings Hill and Lind & Lime (both Edinburgh) the last 2 also have very nice bottles.

Fridgeandkitchen · 22/10/2020 19:28
Am I looking at that right? They want £100 for a bottle that is £18?

And £11 for postage?

dementedma · 22/10/2020 19:32

Still Isle of Harris for me, followed by Arabikie Kirsty's gin or Seaglass gin from Orkney.
Irish gins I like are Gunpowder and Jawbox.
People recommend Silent Pool or Bathtub so i might ask for one of those for Christmas...

SugarHockeyIcedTea · 22/10/2020 19:35

Silent pool is one of the best ones I've had lately.

I'd also recommend Gin Bothy, it's local to me and is amazing. They make one called gunshot which is so damn good.

Also, have you heard of the Craft Gin Club? A bottle of gin, mixers and snacks delivered monthly- maybe your friend would like that?

MeganChips · 22/10/2020 20:43

My favourite ever gin is Few Breakfast gin. It comes from a small distillery just outside Chicago and has just the slightest hint of Earl Grey/Bergamot.

You can get it from Master of Malt in the U.K. if that appeals.
