This year's gin?

Hi all,
Two years ago the "must have" gin was Harris gin, it came in a gorgeous bottle. I'm looking again for a new gin for a wonderful friend. Don't mind cost, could be up to £70 (but preferably less).
Thanks

I love Herno gin

Also love Cotswold distillery and chapel down gin

These would be my treat bottles

If you asked DH he would say monkey 47 all the way

I adore the look of rock rose gin but haven’t tried it yet

cyclingwife · 22/10/2020 20:49

Oh my what a selection! I have no idea how to choose. Maybe I should try a bit of everything first just to make sure my friend would like them Wink

There are so many lovely sounding gins in beautiful bottles. I have so many ideas, thank you

PS to the person who recommended the craft gin club I signed up for myself for November. Now I really need to start buying Christmas presents for others rather than myself Gin

Titanic Plum Gin is fabulous. www.titanicbrewery.co.uk/shop/titanic-brewery-plum-gin-40/

@goose1964 we love the In the Welsh Wind Signature Style gin - same distillery that makes Eccentric.

They are going to have vouchers to give so people can do the 'tailor your own gin' as Christmas presents too www.inthewelshwind.co.uk/product/your-custom-spirit/#spirit-base

You wont regret the craft gin membership OP. I love getting my gin box. Lots of lovely little treats in there as well as the bottle of gin. My favourite gins are

  1. Liverpool Gin - really beautiful organic gin with a nice hit of cardoman, really cant get enough of it. By far my favourite out of literally hundreds I've tried over the years
  2. Poetic Licence Northern soul - similar botanicals to liverpool gin, lovely clean taste
  3. Monkey 47 - very citrusy, almost lemon sherbet taste
  4. Tanqueray Rangpur - really unusual citrus taste, made from rangpur limes. So refreshing.

I havent tried Harris gin yet for some reason. I've been a member of a gin club where we get together for quarterly tastings for years but haven't come across it yet. It sounds lovely so will make it my mission to try this year

If you like Scottish gin, this one is lovely thegincooperative.com/gin-maker/alexanders . A friend declared it the nicest gin she had ever had!

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 28/10/2020 20:12

Sanction gin is delicious. As is Durham Distillery.

Siddalee · 28/10/2020 20:19

Ive got this gin on my Christmas list watercress gin and the bottle looks nice too!

But I like savoury, botanical gins rather than sweet fruity ones

RedToothBrush · 28/10/2020 20:23

My top three recommendations:

Lakes Pink Grapefruit Gin. Can get relatively cheaply. Beautiful bottle. Refreshing.

Three Wrens Apple Crumble Gin. Not the most aspiring bottle, but its amazing and really does taste like apple crumble and it goes amazingly well with Christmassy type puddings (think mince pies and pudding).

Garden Swift Gin. Its a 'grown up' sophisticated orange gin. Makes Malfrey Blood Orange taste like its for kids (and thats a good gin in its own right). Bit of a pain to get hold of as it seems to be 'the gin of the moment' but definitely worth it.

If you don't like fruity gins you cant go far wrong with any Four Pillars Gin.

Siddalee · 28/10/2020 20:23

I also have this gin on the go at the moment after seeing it on Sunday Brunch
Rose gin

It too has a lovely bottle.

RedToothBrush · 28/10/2020 20:26

Harris is good. Lind and Lime is also good.

LordEmsworth · 29/10/2020 21:20

Tappers. Darkside is great, Wintergreen tastes of winter, Falling Leaves is lovely. They are the best gins I have tasted and the bottles are gorgeous. I havent tried Figgy Pudding but it sells out every year... tappersgin.com
