Okay - this is a little bit much. But I've got my DD Paperchase Advent calendar (which I'm hoping she will love) - my DS2 a Hot Wheels Calendar (he's far too old for this, but is nuts about cars and quite immature Grin) and a posh Lindt chocolate Advent Calendar for my DS1 (who is more mature and grown up) .

They haven't had the best year (who has???) and I want to treat everyone. I'm also getting the L'Occitane one for myself. Offered my DH a wine advent calendar, but he refused - so is getting a cheese truckle gift pack on the 1st Dec - his choice.

I am ridiculously excited about this, and can't believe it's only October - dammit.

Please tell me others on this Christmas area are over excited too?

Just off to look at the Poncetastic thread - and I may be stocking up on champagne and fine coffee soon

This is lovely Smile I’m making my baby (DC1, due November) a reusable wooden advent calendar that I’ll refill each year. This year of course it’ll be just for me and DH, but I’m very excited about painting it and filling it!

GoldStripes · 08/10/2020 10:20

Getting excited about Christmas is about the only thing that’s keeping me going at the moment.

Hope you all enjoy your advent calendars! I ordered myself a posh Lindt one yesterday Grin

peachescariad · 08/10/2020 10:22

Haha I 'm with you!

I got DD Pretty Little Thing advent and the 2 DS ASOS 12 day grooming ones....I have never bought posh calendars before and always used the wooden box one I bought 20 years ago and put little things in....they had a vitamin C each in there one morning when I didn't have any sweets or 3x 50p coins

daytripper28 · 08/10/2020 10:35

@peachescariad hehe - can't beat Vitamin C as a special treat Grin Grin

@BuffaloCauliflower - congratulations on your expected little one! The first Christmas with children is so special (I found that to be true anyway)

@GoldStripes - I know exactly what you mean - I'm not going to feel guilty for being somewhat self indulgent. I've spent all lockdown working with poorly (and a lot of depressed) patients so yeah - I can get away with treating myself as well as the kids.

I’m excited about Christmas too. I’ve nearly finished shopping. I’ll start wrapping today!! Christmas cards have been sat on my desk for the past week waiting haha

@peachescariad my DC think vit C tablets are a treat 😂 I think because they never have juice or squash. They’d love an advent calendar of berocca 😆

LuckyAmy1986 · 08/10/2020 10:56

I have gone a bit wild and ordered DH two. One is a naked marshmallow one which comes with it's own little toaster and a gourmet popcorn one. I know he will love them and he never spends money on himself... he will be a bit annoyed at me though!

Merriden · 08/10/2020 11:05

I’ve done this too! I feel like me and the kids really deserve it. I can’t wait for 1st Dec.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 08/10/2020 11:10

I've got a luxury fridge one coming from a local person, her fudge is gorgeous!

BabyMoonPie · 08/10/2020 11:11

I was looking at advent calendars last night and found a Back To The Future Playmobil one. I mentioned it to DH thinking he would scoff at it being £30+ and he was equally excited so it looks like we're having a family advent calendar this year!!

daytripper28 · 08/10/2020 11:15

Blimey - there is so much variation out there for advent calendars! It's mental but quite good fun.

Word of warning - last year got the ASDA cheese advent calendar, and it was something of a Disappointment. Hehe - we still ate it mind you.

Hence going slightly upmarket this year, as there will be no weekends away or concerts/comedy nights out, that we might have been going to.

So glad that last year we managed to see John Cooper Clarke live, as well as Rhod Gilbert - both brilliant live shows (sorry, gone waaay off topic there)

Lovely OP. I have the H&B beauty one here and cant wait to start it. I've got a beer advent for DH and a posh Lindt one for dd.

Agree that the ASDA cheese advent is not nice, was a real disappointment last year.

daytripper28 · 08/10/2020 11:49

@XiCi What's H and B calendar?? Is there a link?

  • hope I haven't missed out Grin

Oh I like the mashmallow one might send that to dd (who is in Denmark this year) I want to find one for dh but Im considering doing a advent one from not on the highstreet just of pictures of the dog.

I got really spoiled by dh last year and he bought me the white company one and OH my was it gorgeous I loved it.

XiCi · 08/10/2020 13:20

It's the Holland and Barrett one daytripper28. It got really good reviews last year and theres some great products in this years one here

Sparticle · 08/10/2020 14:54

Ooh where did you get the hot wheels calendar please OP?

MsSquiz · 08/10/2020 14:58

I've just got a reusable wooden one to fill for DD (who turns 1 on 18th December!)
I'm going to mix up what goes in - little treats and notes with whatever we'll be doing that day like Santa Claus visit, enchanted lights trail, walking around the estate to see Christmas lights, decorating the tree, etc

I fully know it's all for my benefit, but I don't care!

M0rT · 08/10/2020 15:02

@Enko could you tell me more about the advent calendar with pictures of the dog? My DH would love that!

Enko · 08/10/2020 15:06

@M0rT

this is an example when we got it years ago it was a 24 one so I am looking to see if there are others. as I do like the 24

daytripper28 · 08/10/2020 15:19

@Sparticle - hot wheels one off Amazon - it’s arrived today and been hidden under the bed...

Sparticle · 08/10/2020 15:22

Thanks @daytripper28!

daytripper28 · 08/10/2020 15:23

@XiCi. Thanks for link - that looks lush. I thought they only did vitamin pills

I bought hotel chocolate advent calendars today and was so excited that I told dd1 (was meant to be a surprise). I usually have the naked marshmallow calendar, it’s pretty good 😋. I think I get more excited about the run up to Christmas rather than the actual day so calendars are exciting.

Twatalert · 08/10/2020 16:50

So cool OP! I get your excitement. It's things like that that make Covid a bit more bearable. I just treated myself to the Lumene 24 calendar. It comes with a free face cream of some sort and I could also pick 2 beauty samples at check-out. I think with something to try out as soon as it arrives I will manage to not touch the calendar before the 1st.

Least year I had a £5 Haribo one. But I am on a diet so had to pick something else this year.

Floralnomad · 08/10/2020 17:10

I’ve ordered a Gibson jigsaw puzzle advent calendar for my daughter , she’s not into the beauty ones as she has multiple allergies and is coeliac which discounts lots of the edible ones - it’s difficult .

Justonedayatatime11 · 08/10/2020 17:28

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee can I ask where you got your fudge one from please?
