Card games for student - Not Cards Against Humanity b

Hi I want to send a little something to a student relative who is stuck in halls. Was thinking something he and pals could play as they have apparently been enjoying brutal games of Uno. Not Cards against Humanity as potentially offensive. Don't know if there are any Top Trumps that are 'in' for young adults? Or similar games?
Posting in Christmas for traffic plus responses might help others trying To buy for this difficult age group.

my teens love gubs and avacado smash. Bth really simple but good fun games.

@MarkRuffaloCrumble

My 20 y/o won’t play CAH either, although it was a revelation playing with a 95 year old relative once Grin

One game that I bought which brought us all to tears of laughter was Soundiculous. It’s a very simple concept, a pile of cards which have ‘sounds’ on them, ranging in difficulty, and a bit like charades, you have to make the noise and everyone else guesses what you’re supposed to be. Another similar idea is Accentuate, where you have to say a film quote in a certain accent and you have to guess the accent and the film.

I guess it may be awkward playing games like that with new people that you want to impress, but if they have access to alcohol they’ll be fine Grin

I think Santa might leave Soundiculous for our family (all grown ups! ) to play after Christmas lunch & a few wines!

Shot in the dark is a really good one.

Linkee is also a favourite for me.

Haven't read the full thread but you can get giant dobble cards, maybe not the easiest to send in the post though

Cranium is a great game and Logo. Great fun. An old one Is Life and another Pictionary. My favourite was initial quest where you had to choose items from a category with the right initials but haven’t seen it for years.

My adult nieces and nephews right down to my youngest child who’s 9 love a card game called Anomia, it’s quite good fun, not too tricky to get the hang of and pretty quick. It can get very competitive!

SirSamuelVimes · 05/10/2020 17:20

I'd just send cards against humanity tbh. They can always take out the really bad ones.

SBAM · 05/10/2020 17:28

Space team is a collaborative card game that can result in chaos. Rhino hero (building a card tower and moving the rhino up it) could be fun for students too.

Zaphodsotherhead · 05/10/2020 17:55

I was going to say there are some very 'precious' kids out there!

I play CAH with my adult children and their friends. One of my proudest moments is reducing DD2's best friend to tears of hysterical laughter over CAH. Students are quite hard to embarrass.

Scaraffito · 05/10/2020 18:00

What do you meme is a less offensive version of CAH but great fun, dobble provides a surprising amount of entertainment, and agree with sushi go. For something a bit different could buy some of the Exit games, and a normal pack of cards (deffo not to play ring of fire with).

It's not so much about precious, more about consideration for the mix of cultures

I'm fairly sure that kids saying they won't play CAH with their parents aren't worrying about a 'mix of cultures'.

I was referring to the student I am buying a game for - they are in student halls and sharing with people who would be offended by CAH.... nothing to do with parents

CAH with your parents is the best game ever. But maybe that's because we're in our 30s not students. Exploding Kittens is great.

HumphreyGoodmanswife · 05/10/2020 20:38

We've got so many card games, but I think Exploding Kittens is one of our faves (it's easy to pick up) with the expansions. Also Throw Throw Burrito

Zaphodsotherhead · 05/10/2020 20:57

@RockingMyFiftiesNot

And I was referring to those who don't want to play CAH with their parents. We are talking at cross purposes.

BikeRunSki · 05/10/2020 21:29

Exploding kittens

Not Top Trumps. Whatever the subject, it’s really dull after about 4 rounds.

Ah ok sorry, I misunderstood. I only said no CAH because I know the student I am wanting to send a gift to has mentioned that it's been difficult with the mix in their flat
