I came on looking for the annual thread but can't find it so here is the start (courtesy of Fellatio - wherever you are)

OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom. A bit like the war in Afghanistan, only with nicer food and sparkly shoes.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobsworth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapes and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessies' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

I used a black sharpie on an ordinary bauble . Then splodged on some silver .
I will probably do over the silver with copper when it arrives .

Trumpton · 26/11/2020 21:21

Paperwhites now inside and warming up. They have had their first diluted gin and I see flower buds !

@Trumpton they look good, what sort of temperatures do you use? wondering if they would work here as we don't get much below 12 degrees this time of year. (realise i'm to late but perhaps next year)

Trumpton · 27/11/2020 08:40

They go into an unheated outbuilding from 11/11 to about now and then in a light place living room temp to fool them into thinking it’s spring .
Generally 6 or so weeks .

@Trumpton perhaps I will pick up some bulbs next time i'm in the UK and give it a go next year. We have an unheated shed that gets no sunlight and is always pretty cool but not the same level as a UK outbuilding. They would make perfect gifts for relatives that have everything

Thanks everyone 😊 am happy to take best thread creation as I think she's pretty delicious! The only poncing I have done is googling Christmas baby grows in the small hours while feeding. Looking forward to taking DD to buy her first Christmas tree though. 😍

lucysmam · 28/11/2020 09:13

Thanks Trumpton; we got the decs out of the loft yesterday so I might see if there are any we won't be using & have a go.

We're putting the tree up today. It won't be what I had in my head, but that means there's a whole year of crafting after this one so it can be what I wanted...I might have started pinning more ideas/things to try, last night.

I think the girls were going to make some paper chains too - I have some small punches similar to the pp who made ones with pretty edges so was going to find them out & see what they look like.

lucysmam · 28/11/2020 17:09

4 hours...4 flippin' hours of being talked at none stop & having various decorations plonked in my hair & we only have the tree up!! & a couple of tea light holders that dd2 has artfully arranged on the fireplace (I'm likely to find them somwhere else to go!).

The rest can be done tomorrow.

The elf doesn't do 'elf on the shelf' btw; he supervises advent calendars to make sure no-one peeks further ahead than they should. & he is certainly not spending the next month being taken on & off my reindeer. He might sit and supervise dd2's mantis once she goes to bed...

thelegohooverer · 28/11/2020 18:55

We’re getting close to the end of this thread.
@lucysmam the tree is beautiful - well worth 4 hours! I need to give the front room a good clean tomorrow before putting up ours. Ds dropped Lego yesterday and I shone a torch under the couch to help him find it and the dust was shocking. How does it even get in there?

It’s been busy here these last two weeks with no opportunities to ponce. I’ve ordered some fabric to make a table runner and napkins - not sure when I’ll get a chance to see it. It’s only for the breakfast table but I was looking through photos and it needs livening up. It took me ages to find fabric that was suitable and affordable. I’m really missing the charity shops this year.

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 29/11/2020 18:15

I think I have done the most poncetastic thing I ever have in my life - I've actually crocheted round the wire of the Christmas tree lights. It was dark green and my tree is pink and it just looked ugly, so I dc'd in pink/purple all around the lights so it blends in better.

I think this year he got to me slightly Grin

lucysmam · 29/11/2020 18:23

AHippo that made me smile Grin

Not much poncing here today - I started the first stocking again & we put more decs up.

I plan to make a small crochet decoration tomorrow for dd2's class TA (she's been teaching the class for almost 2 weeks now as the teacher seems to have gone awol & she is very good for the kids).

MissEWeatherwax · 29/11/2020 22:19

I wish I could crochet, my DD is sending me links to a bee, she wants off Etsy.
Also my paper whites are flowering!

lucysmam · 30/11/2020 08:09

MissE I only taught myself recently! It's easy enough once you get the hang of it. Dd2's had me making all sorts (including a bee that looks a bit angry Grin )

Ooh flowering Paperwhites ! I am thinking of moving mine back into the cool room to slow them down . I wonder if the house is warmer this year as we are all wfh. They do seem to be faster . Do you have a photo ?

MissEWeatherwax · 30/11/2020 09:04

I tried to crochet a couple of times, I’m dreadful. I think my house is too warm.

MissEWeatherwax · 30/11/2020 09:05

Photo didn’t attach

I think I must have done something wrong because they are huge!

MissEWeatherwax · 30/11/2020 09:07

lucysmam that bee is great. It’s as good as the ones on Etsy.

Trumpton · 30/11/2020 09:43

Ooh they are tall but beautiful ! Did you feed them diluted gin ( 1 part gin to 7 parts water ?) that stunts the greenery without affecting the flowers .

@VivaJen
Are you able to start a new thread ?

MissEWeatherwax · 30/11/2020 09:56

No alcohol because DH wouldn’t let me use his posh ginBlush just a cup of water since 11 November

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 30/11/2020 09:58

My paperwhites are about to flower, too. Luckily the interwebs have informed me that flowering lasts about 6 weeks so hopefully they'll make it to Christmas Day! Mine are tall, too; we don't have gin and I wasn't going to buy it just for flowers.
