Christmas magazines

Has anyone seen any Christmas magazines out yet? GH get ahead for Christmas is usually out in August but I haven't seen it yet.

I do have a lot of Christmas magazines that I've collected over the years so probably don't actually need anymore.

Christmas UK have announced that the GoodFood make ahead edition thingy has been spotted in the wild. And so it begins...

mbosnz · 28/08/2020 19:05

@TheGirlWhoLived

That's the one! A singularly vicious magazine, apparently!

mbosnz · 29/08/2020 20:06

I managed to hunt me down the GoodFoods Christmas magazine!

(The children are incensed.)

NerosFiddle · 29/08/2020 20:28

@mbosnz where?!

OP posts:
mbosnz · 29/08/2020 20:31

M&S, and I saw it in Tesco, too. . .

NerosFiddle · 30/08/2020 10:20

Thank you @mbosnz I'll send Dh out to take a look today. Fingers crossed 🤞

I saw it in tesco earlier. If it was more than food I'd get it. I'm no cook Grin haha x

NoWordForFluffy · 30/08/2020 13:21

Ooh. I'll look for that mag this afternoon!

I'm happy to post a Booth's book to poor, neglected southerners for the price of the postage! I'm only a few miles from two stores.

sueelleker · 30/08/2020 17:18

@SummerHouse We get the TV and Satellite Guide through the year, but I always get the Christmas/New Year Radio Times for the articles. Always feels really festive.

everythingisginandroses · 30/08/2020 19:03

Radio Times double issue is a must here, and I like Good Housekeeping Christmas special. Thank you @TailEndCharlie - just ordered F&M catalogue Star

I forgot what I went into Morrison's for, Neros, but at least I got this! 😂 Xmas Grin

Maisieme · 31/08/2020 15:46

Couple of cross stitch magazines are out with Christmas designs in.

Zaphodsotherhead · 31/08/2020 17:23

I wonder if they're holding off until they've got a better idea of whether Christmas will be 'in' this year (ie no lockdown) or 'out' (with none of us able to socialise).

Maybe they are waiting for a heads' up from Boris before they go all out on the 'drinks party menu for 30' and how to decorate your house so the neighbours are jealous articles?

NoWordForFluffy · 01/09/2020 18:35

They'll have planned the magazines ages ago, I imagine. The Good Food one just has a different editor's message than it would otherwise have had, from what I can tell.

everythingisginandroses · 01/09/2020 19:57

@NoWordForFluffy I think you're right: magazines are likely to have long lead times before they go to print, so might not have changed all that much. I think even without C-19 the vibe would be more cocooning than socialising anyway, that's just the times we're living in.

HeIenaDove · 04/09/2020 02:28

Good Housekeeping and Woman and Home Christmas editions are usually out on or before Halloween. They already seem to be gearing up for this. (the October ones were out on 27 August)

According to newsstand.co.uk this is the date for December Woman and Home

DEC 20, Due:22/10/2020

PennyDreadfuI · 04/09/2020 08:44

I subscribe to Readly - it's £7.99 a month but they always have offers (I think you can get two months free trial atm). They've got all the back issues of magazines on there for the past couple of years so you can read all the 'old' December editions and they've got plenty of standalone specials too (crafting/nostalgia etc).

Much cheaper than buying all the individual magazines and less wasteful, plus you can screenshot any recipes/ideas (I do this and put them in a Christmas folder).

This is true of course. I just wondered if they may hold back release until they had a better idea of how things were going.

I know a lot got caught out with their Spring editions filled with Holiday specials and days out...

Seasidegrandma · 04/09/2020 11:06

On a side note, I subscribe to a monthly papercraft magazine and have only received 2 or 3 during the last six months. They said it was due to staffing issues and wfh, so maybe the Christmas magazines are similarly delayed?

FreezerBird · 04/09/2020 12:06

I managed to pierce my eye with a Christmas magazine the year before last

Ouch !

Have you had any other injuries from Leisure Periodcals or is it just the Christmas edition that is lethal?

I think it's Christmas in general which is the danger. Last year I stabbed my finger with a clove while preparing mulled wine. It was surprisingly painful.

HeIenaDove · 04/09/2020 15:14

@Zaphodsotherhead Yep The May issue of Red had a huge feature about hair and salon hair treatments Planned in advance obvs but hit the shelves after the salons were closed.

SundayReilly · 05/09/2020 17:11

Booths Christmas magazine - thats where its at!
