What can I get you for Christmas?

Dear Mumsnetters,

I am a man. I have a mother. I come in peace.

For the past few years I have cunningly used Mumsnet as a fountain of knowledge to buy Christmas presents for my other half. During that time, I have been guided towards silk dressing gowns (which were a huge hit), Coach handbags (which went down okay) and other things that I can no longer remember. You’ve been pretty helpful and I’m in desperate need of help again. I have zero time to go out shopping between now and Christmas and I will be away with work for much of the next two weeks – so it will mostly be done through the internet. The intended recipient is my wife, who is 42, active, loves dogs, the great outdoors and anything nice really. I have no idea how much I’ll spend. Somewhere between £400 and £1000ish by the time I’ve got a few things. We have no children so I like to spend a bit on her at Christmas.

Anyway, and top tips are gratefully received. What would you like as a present this Christmas?

Thanks in advance!

Carl

Cashmere scarf and gloves.

Jewellery from Georg Jensen.

Silk pyjamas.

Handbag tidy with matching card holder, and a silk scarf from Aspinal of London.

Vouchers for Bobbi Brown make up.

Legomadx2 · 03/12/2019 15:05

Clothes (eg cashmere jumper, silk top, expensive jeans) from Trilogy.

Books

Space NK voucher (or nice body cream and scented candle from there)

NOT a voucher for a treatment.

A ruby cocktail ring
A package of classes for my favourite Reformer Pilates studio
Lululemon yoga clothes
Vouchers for a facial and/or massage
Neom candles
A new strap for my Apple Watch
A Hermes clic clac bracelet in red

I like the look of that jewellery. Good shout.

Oh or maybe a key holder and coin purse from Louis Vuitton. In the Damier Ebene rather than the traditional monogram.

Whitney168 · 03/12/2019 15:07

A Didriksons parka for dog walking - so cosy, and rain doesn't touch it. (All about the practicality, me, as long as there's some nice stuff too!)

TeapotCollection · 03/12/2019 15:07

A bottle of orange truffle Baileys. Only supermarket that has them is Tesco but sold out in all the ones around here...

Carleatspeas · 03/12/2019 15:11

Cashmere seems popular. Anywhere I should be looking?

What is a cocktail ring?

I refuse to spend more than £5 on a candle. Our house is already full to the brim of Witch like effigies that I'm told are "Scent Diffusers". I can;t allow more money to be burnt or evaporated.

I love your opening 😂

A spa break for either the two of you or her and a friend

Any thing and everything from lush (they do gift packs if you want to make life easy)

Nice underwear, thinking more pretty rather than sexy, Ted baker do some lovely sets

thiscouldbethehill · 03/12/2019 15:13

Fairfax and Favour boots and/or handbag, they also do lovely dog collars. Barbour jacket. Posh wellies. Voucher for a night in a lovely country hotel. Cashmere jumper, hat, gloves. Jo Malone candle and perfume. Mulberry scarf and/or purse.

Kenworthington · 03/12/2019 15:14

I don’t think I’m your target market really as I want an antique sacred heart of Jesus statue I’ve seen in a local vintage shop. Plus two vintage French Mary’s I’ve got in my online shopping basket on Etsy. I’m not remotely religious, I just collect religious artefacts 🤣

I’ll get my coat

Carleatspeas · 03/12/2019 15:26

Is it a Cassock?

Ninkanink · 03/12/2019 15:27

Oh yes Fairfax and favour boots and bag!

Mulberry is always good too. I’d love a scarf, and a purse or key ring in a matching colourway.

Grumpbum123 · 03/12/2019 15:30

Le Chameau welly’s

AnniePankettonne · 03/12/2019 15:30

Cashmere Hoodie from House Of Bruar , Johnstons of Elgin .
Cashmere fingerless gloves .

Miniloso · 03/12/2019 15:36

I’d like a simple solid gold bangle, perhaps with a diamond in it. Space NK vouchers, quality sexy underwear, some sheepskin bootie slippers - thanks 😊

kjhkj · 03/12/2019 15:36

Turtle Dove do lovely recycled cashmere fingerless gloves.

Cashmere stole from Uniqlo - lovely ultra fine square scarf

Neom Wellbeing pod - I know you said you had diffusers but this is the dogs bollocks of electric diffusers - out of stock atm but more in stock after this weekend.

Cashmere pjs and dressing gown - M&S - Rosie range. I have two dressing gowns and two sets of the pjs and they are my favourite.

Quad sheepskin rug/throw - gorgeous - Best prices on ebay or Dunelm.

Nuxe gold body oil. Its heavenly. M&S stock it.

Miniloso · 03/12/2019 15:37

Gucci Disco bag would be nice too!

BiddyPop · 03/12/2019 15:38

If outdoorsy, does she have great walking trousers and boots? OK, the boots she needs to be involved in, but I know there was a thread on here before which had great ideas for gear (on style and beauty - about what to wear on a 1st date hiking IIRC). Sorry I don't have the link.

Turt · 03/12/2019 15:39

A pair of Barbour boots, Jo Malone candle, Lush goodies (if she loves a long soak in the bath)! Hope this helps.

Laska2Meryls · 03/12/2019 15:46

I've just been out walking and I need a new pair of Dubarry boots. They are warm and waterproof and pretty indestructible . ( but mine are on their 10th year now) . I like the calf length, but if your DW has v slim legs she may prefer the higher ones .

I also love my North Face thermoball jacket, .. its lightweight and warm like a down one but doesn't mind if it gets wet ..

Id love charcoal cashmere scarf from Hush .
Yes, anything Georg Jensen would make me squeak with joy!

Id also like a Toast Icelandic or fairisle jumper
and a lovely squashy tan leather cross body bag ..

christmassymcchristmas · 03/12/2019 15:50

My god. Not Lush.

I'll have an Elemis gift set, must include full size Frangipani oil, a pair of black sparkly DMs rocking horse shit, a couple of days in Scotland or the Lakes with you

Howmanysleepsnow · 03/12/2019 16:12

I have no idea, sorry!
I also have no idea what to buy my husband. Do you have any suggestions?

SurpriseSparDay · 03/12/2019 16:32

Ducks. (You’ll need a stretch of water.)

Riding lessons. Preferably somewhere in South America.

A chauffeur so I could skip the train but still be able to read/write on the way. £1k should buy a good few hours.

Earrings.

A dog. (Not just for Christmas. And from a rescue place obviously. All the admin etc adds up to ££.)

A bike - and weekends away to play on it.

Complete set of Chalet School books.

TheReluctantCountess · 03/12/2019 16:36

Wow that’s a big budget! My ideas were all around a tenner 😆
