Has anyone recently bought an artificial pre lit tree? I’m struggling?

First year buying last year and got one off amazon. 5 foot artificial pre lot. It had a lot of gaps and I wasn’t that over joyed with it. This year I’ve been round some shops that display them (not many!) and they still all have quite big gaps and don’t look nice and full and bushy. Am I asking too much? I’m thinking of maybe going for a 6 foot one? I saw one on Homebase that looked good, went to store but I didn’t like it. I’ve now seen one on Robert dyas on offer, but have no stores near by and worry if it got it, it would be no better than the one in the loft. I don’t want a real one, would like to buy one and keep it for each year. Does a decent pre lit on for under £100 exist or do I give up? X

The site I linked to does free returns for 30 days.

TheQueef · 21/11/2019 09:34

Check the Amazon prices before buying a werchristmas tree, some types are cheaper from Amazon.
Do they have enough lights Fluffy? I like three of theirs but worry I will need to add extra lights. I'm terrible at lights and tinsel it always looks like captain caveman Angry

BiddyPop · 21/11/2019 09:38

Did anyone mention yet the importance of "fluffing" the tree? As in, making sure all the branches are pulled out well when you take the tree from its box?

Start at the bottom, do it layer by layer working upwards, and take your time as this is an important step.

Then you add your lights and any picks/spare garland etc to fill gaps, and use plenty of large decorations and tinsel for other gaps.

But an artificial tree is meant to be manipulated a fair amount, so you should be able to reduce the gaps a fair amount if you fluff it well.

NoWordForFluffy · 21/11/2019 09:41

@TheQueef, ours has 400 which I'm happy with! It's a 6 foot tree and that's more than I'd ever add if it wasn't pre-lit!

TrickyD · 21/11/2019 10:05

The free returns is excellent Fluffy, but I couldn't see any of the 6ft ones with PE tips for under £10O. Their garlands looked good.

Asda have got this one which has good reviews. I got the unlit one the other day, which has 5 star reviews, I haven’t put it up yet, I’m not allowed 😂. The pre-lit one was on show in store & to be fair it was stood on a high shelf & it look quite good, for £50. That’s if you want a snowy effect one!

We got ours from John Lewis. Very pleased with it. It looked a bit gappy when we first put it together but once the branches were opened out properly it was very full with no gaps. [Might be worth looking closely at display models to make sure that they have been assembled and branches tweeked properly.] I am completely converted to pre lit now.

SkintSanta · 21/11/2019 11:15

We have a 7ft prelit werchristmas tree off amazon, a 6ft prelit balsam hill, and a 5ft prelit balsam hill. For value for money absolutely the werchristmas one. It’s amazing. All have the vinyl type tips and all three look very realistic but the 7ft is our bushiest looking one.

It’s the craford pine here

I had a 10% discount for signing up to their newsletter. Try WELCOME2019 to see if it works.

I also bought in July when they were cheaper! Mine was £109 with discount.

ritzbiscuits · 22/11/2019 10:49

If you're near a big Tesco see if they have any on display. I got a 7ft one from there a couple of years ago, it's so thick and full!

It's not pre lit, though I wonder if you want a bushy one you're better adding your own lights.

I kid you not I think I pay with £30 of vouchers on a double up deal at the time!

Sorry, the week has been manic. Thanks everyone for this I appreciate it. I’m going to look through each link and work out what to get at the weekend.

We bought this a few years ago and it still looks beautiful. I can't wait for next weekend so I can put it up again.

peachypetite · 23/11/2019 08:41

Homebase

PepsiLola · 25/11/2019 12:44

@ritzbiscuits I think we have the same tree! It was such good value

ritzbiscuits · 25/11/2019 13:03

@PepsiLola I know - bargain!

Celebelly · 29/11/2019 21:24

We put up our WeRChristmas tree tonight and it's brilliant! I'd really recommend it. And it was so nice not having to faff about with lights!

Wonderingwhyme · 29/11/2019 21:48

I decided on a werChristmas in the end. Just can’t decide on 5 or 6 foot... 6 seems massive!

Wondering, so pleased you are sorted. Don't forget Biddypop's advice about 'fluffing' the branches. The first time takes a long time, next year better, but yesterday we got ours out for the third time and I still took well over an hour to fluff, and I was very surprised to find one or two branches that I had completely missed previously.

We but did not have time to decorate, but last night I was gazing at it thinking how good it looked even in its green state and I still found one or two bits to tweak.

Enjoy your tree!

Wonderingwhyme · 30/11/2019 08:45

Thanks, haven’t got it yet. Can’t decide on 5 or 6 foot. Last year was 5 but 6 is door frame height plus the diameter floor space will be more so I think I need to measure it out today!

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 30/11/2019 08:56

I know you've decided on a tree OP but just to say not to take the trees displayed in shops like the range, b & m's etc as truly indicative of what the tree looks like - they get some 17yo stockboy/girl who's never put a tree up in their life before to set them up.

I bought a display tree from Homebase years ago & mortified my ex by insisting that I dismantle & re-box it myself rather than let the staff touch it 🙈😂

Wonderingwhyme · 01/12/2019 15:42

Right so I’m ready to order and want a 6 foot but it says the diameter is 44 inches!! Iv just measured and that’s massive! It blocks the room, have to squeeze past the sofa, and it will block the tv. Even the 5 foot is 40 inch diameter. This is the werChristmas one. Is that normal diameter??

OP posts:
Wonderingwhyme · 01/12/2019 16:11

I can’t move any furniture to make any more room but don’t want to be tripping over it to get in the room/turn tv on etc. What about getting 5 foot and standing it on something?? Would that work? I have a foot stool thing that is about a foot cube, wondering if I could bung it on that or would that be stupid? It would be about 6 foot in total...

OP posts:
NoWordForFluffy · 01/12/2019 16:14

We stand our 6ft on a table so we keep floor space.

Here's a photo of it today (it's the werchristmas one).

Wonderingwhyme · 01/12/2019 16:18

Thanks @NoWordForFluffy what does the bottom look like? How far off the floor is the table?
