Lighthearted thread, as I’m sure everyone is grateful for any gift they receive.

Just with Christmas coming up I’m wondering which gifts you are dreading getting (but know you’ll probably get)

Mine are the Lynx women gifts sets (hate it but seem to get it every year!)
Any Poundland creams as they seem to make my skin itchy and red
Anything Bayliss & Harding (I know there is another thread about that)
Cheap perfume that smells like paint stripper
Obvious second had gifts that the giver didn’t want for themselves (it’s usually something totally unrelated to the things you’re interested in)

One year my friend got me some unwrapped Poundland glitter body spray, not sure why as I’ve never worn the stuff and it was clear that it was in the back of her wardrobe from a while ago

OP posts:

Every Christmas and Birthday I get given obviously unwanted regifted items from my friend who is a teacher. It’s a bit annoying.

Tobebythesea · 05/11/2019 17:14

Another vote for Bayliss and Harding. Cheap thoughtless crap.

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 05/11/2019 17:27

I’ve loved reading through the thread, unfortunately I don’t have anything to add. I’m one of those people who actually like getting the boots 3for2 gift sets, socks, mugs and probably everything else that’s been written about Blush

Oooh I’ve thought of one before I pressed post. Those little manicure sets, the ones with tweezers etc in. I do noting with my nails at all, apart from cut them. I don’t need all the other stuff in there and even if I did it’s all tat anyway.

jollygoose · 05/11/2019 17:44

Now you have all made my secret santa buying extremely difficult! Just about everything I can buy for a tenner has been given the thumbs down!!

Cloudyyy · 05/11/2019 17:53

Anything that is supposed to just sit on my house - I absolutely HATE clutter and there’s no possible way you could visit my house and think I like random decorative ornaments/ candles/ cushions/ ugly teacups.. and yet I always receive them!! I’ve even had wind chimes, plastic stags for the wall, porcelain statues... I mean really ?!!!!! I’d just like something tasteful and consumable ideally! Dark chocolate, good coffee or just beautiful flowers are my favourites!

TheoneandObi · 05/11/2019 17:57

Hand cream

Yoohoo16 · 05/11/2019 18:08

Make up gift set. Like the benefit ones that come in a mini zip up bag.
I might use one of the items, the rest are not my colour and I don’t need another bloody makeup bag. All that plastic and unwanted crap, our poor plant.

abitoflight · 05/11/2019 18:10

I love a scented candle and bath products as don't buy them for myself
Also love meltis jelly fruits
And no Christmas would be complete without the circle shaped pack of lemon and orange jelly semicircle jellies

I loathe body lotion, anything with a slogan, anything that's just meant to sit there gathering dust

StillWeRise · 05/11/2019 18:12

wh smiths token

Bunnyfuller · 05/11/2019 18:13

I have a mum and a dad, DH and 2 teenagers. No friends that buy each other presents and no other family that we do presents with.

I will have all your shitty presents! I’d love a pile of stuff to open, however crap!

Bluewavescrashing · 05/11/2019 18:14

Someone in my family always gives shite presents. Box of plates not at all to my taste...I collect a particular brand of pottery. Fake purse that fell apart in 2 weeks. Etc.

Bluewavescrashing · 05/11/2019 18:23

Reading this thread is depressing. We're in climate crisis. Please don't buy people any gifts unless you know they like that particular thing! All the packaging on unwanted toiletries which end up in the bin. Some go to charity I'm sure but bars of soap do the job anyway. So. Much. Stuff. 🙄

Herocomplex · 05/11/2019 18:31

Imagine if we just could stop all this nonsense. I love Christmas but this all seems so pointless.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 05/11/2019 18:42

I'm impossible to buy for and dislike most things on your lists. I've asked for nothing most people play safe and get Amazon vouchers which are perfect for me as I'll use them through the year.
My problem is buying for others because I don't want waste of money items, I struggle to buy things others will cherish.

ritzbiscuits · 05/11/2019 18:46

Usually anything my MIL buys me! 😂

She thinks she's a style icon and buys me lots of leopard print accessories, furry stoles, old lady pyjamas and ballet slippers.

She once bought me harem pants and told me 'they were wearing them in the nightclubs!'

Help!

user1374384 · 05/11/2019 18:58

All my in laws get me fox themed everything. I quite liked fox decorated things about 10 years ago, and the big fox themed fashion which followed right after owls, killed it for me entirely. I've gone from disinterest to almost dispising foxes Blush.

keepingbees · 05/11/2019 19:07

I agree with most the things listed on this thread. Bath sets, cheap make up, cheap chocolates, tat.
I receive this from pretty much all my family and it's depressing. I know that sounds so ungrateful but honestly it makes me sad that so much time and money has been wasted on this stuff that isn't needed or wanted. Its so wasteful and the whole thing is just meaningless.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/11/2019 19:12

Toiletries
Scented candles - I NEVER burn candles, yet I seem to get them all the time.
Cheap accessories/jewellery - I got some hideous gloves last year
Rose sparkling wine/prosecco
Rubbish chocolates

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/11/2019 19:13

Oh actually, mugs are my most hated.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 05/11/2019 19:23

I'm going to sound so ungrateful, but here goes....

Bath sets
Roses/Quality street
Scarves - I've never worn them and yet still receive them from the usual gift givers Confused
Clothes from my mum that are a size or even 2 sizes larger than I am Hmm
Cheap makeup
Cheap biscuits - (USA, in Ireland)

Selection boxes for my kids. I hate them. So much unnecessary waste in the packaging and
DS turns into a dog with a bone over them, guarding them and comparing who has eaten what, and would literally gorge on them until he vomits, or complain about it when I put them away

I would love nice chocolates, wine and fluffy socks Smile

TiceCream · 05/11/2019 19:26

Any toiletries or makeup. Most stuff makes me itchy and I won’t use it.

Food that I’m allergic to, because people haven’t read the label or remembered I have allergies. DH ends up eating it and I have no gift, which is particularly annoying if it’s an expensive treat.

Anything that’s a knock off or just general tat will end up being donated. I’d much rather have something small but nice.

MrsPnut · 05/11/2019 19:27

@jollygoose I bought my secret santa last year a button family picture from etsy last year.
Massively twee but she loved it and it was much admired by many of the other people in the office.

JellyBook · 05/11/2019 19:29

Gift sets of toiletries.

I love a bit of bubble bath but HATE fucking smelly body cream, and you always get a glut of it in those sets.

Not to mention the atrocious amount of packaging going in the landfill.

No thanks.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/11/2019 19:30

weird body pouffe things (does anyone actually wash with those?!)

Me Xmas Grin

I do but I only buy the BodyShop ones , the others I have tried are too scratchy .

I don't like wine or Prosecco . I don't drink alcohol bu if I did , wine would be the last on my list.

Any underwear with scratchy lace

Any soft toys , teddy bears or twee ornaments

Youngatheart00 · 05/11/2019 19:44

With many more environmentally aware I wonder if anything will be more sustainably packaged this year? Those boxed sets with so much plastic wastage Confused

I guess the consumer will need to vote with their purse.
