Christmas shopping: how much do you have left

Was just talking with my mum about Xmas shopping because she said she’s starting it next weekend. I was like I’m actually almost finished.
I only need: 2 £10 sports direct vouchers for dad and step bro, Nando’s gift card for bro and his gf, Nintendo online subscription for ds11 from me and his dad.
Dps annual lush haul which I don’t get till a few weeks before. Lush bath bombs the Christmas Eve box and a few more Christmas scratch cards that we have on Christmas Day with dinner. Still need a few more stocking bits and that’s literally it.
So how you guys getting on?

@Nighttimefreedom
I have 3. I've only really sorted out the 'surprises'. My eldest has autism and his 'obsession' with all things vehicles won't change any time soon.
My youngest is too young to know what he wants - so surprises are all fine for him.
Middle child has dropped enough hints but my 'budget' allows for anything that may be different when they write their lists / letter to Santa

I know what you mean about the Christmas shops, Nighttimefreedom - it's a lovely time of year Xmas Smile I have just had to accept that as a shift worker with 15 hours a week of commuting on top I need to get ahead a bit more. I have loads of time off this December and want to spend it with my family and be really relaxed for a change.

maxbeer · 21/10/2019 21:41

Someone please point me to the Christmas bargain thread mentioned previously, I really need to start preparing now !

itsgettingweird · 21/10/2019 21:49

Sister and her ds done.

Ds main present done and some smaller bits. I'll also pick up sweets and lynx etc for stocking over the weeks as things are on offer!

Some of brother and his DP done.

Haven't done my parents.

I like to finish by end of November so then in December I can add bits each week to shop to spread the cost.

Tbh I used to be this organised before my daughter was born as her bday is September I generally have to wait and see what she gets. This is the first year in 7 years I’ve nearly finished it this early, I usually go right up till Christmas Eve. Now to sort out my heavily pertrubing wardrobe when I actually get a day off whilst the kids are at school, which should be this Friday. Praying I don’t get asked.
Actually got all of ds11 bday prezzies which is 11 days after Xmas. So doing quite well.
Btw no competition just a lighthearted thread seeing people’s progress 😆

We got the last bits today, so apart from the christmas dinner we're done. No competition here, I'm bipolar and Christmas is one of my triggers, and I'm also on the autistic spectrum, so we do shopping slowly before december so i can concentrate on staying "well" over the actual Christmas period.

username57888 · 22/10/2019 08:02

You don't need to defend yourselves , of course it's not a competition . Some people like to be organised and spread the cost to do it early . Some people like to shop on Christmas Eve and that's fine too .
I personally like to pick gifts up from late September onwards so by the time December is here I have most things and it's not too expensive to spend all at once .

ysmaem · 22/10/2019 08:38

I'm leaving the majority of as shopping fory 2 DS's until December this year as I dont have much places to hide gifts. Plus they're wanting bikes so that'll have to be stored in our shed and i don't want them there for months prior to Xmas. I need to purchase a experience day l voucher and Guinness book of records for DF, handbag for DM, and salt rock lamps for DM and MIL. So yeah o still do have a bit to go

HappydaysArehere · 22/10/2019 08:40

Nothing and you have ruined my equilibrium.

user1493494961 · 22/10/2019 09:01

I pick things up for Christmas and birthdays throughout the year so always have a present stash. I love to get bargains from sales and charity shops. I don't just buy random rubbish though, I buy with people in mind. For DGC, I bought Lego in the Argos sale last month and am waiting for Debenhams half-price Christmas offers (particularly on nightwear) in the run-up to Christmas. I still have a few people to buy for but it will be manageable.

I'm almost done and have lists of everything left to buy. I like getting the bulk of it out of the way by December then I can do the fun shopping. I love mooching around all the Christmas shops (especially Liberty) and being able to enjoy picking up bits and pieces rather than that race round carrying masses of bags.

Plus both DSs have their birthdays in early January so I've got both of those to sort out too.

subwaysaladfan · 22/10/2019 15:58

I start end of nov, I have a huge family and 5 kids of my own. I can't imagine starting this early Confused I like to get the birthdays out the way first (last one is end of nov then I can think about Xmas)

MovinOnUp · 22/10/2019 15:59

@RhubarbCrumbled Even though I'm done with the actual gift shopping, I've got a couple hours in London in December and will be going for a festive mooch round Liberty's. Will maybe treat myself to some Christmas decorations.
The DC have never been, DD is going to pop with happiness when she gets to the haberdashery department.

Baguetteaboutit · 22/10/2019 16:04

All of it. I'm normally onto it by now but I'd end up so organised and clinical about Christmas that I couldn't be arsed with it by the time it came around. So, I'm shaking it up a bit this year. I'm going to hold out on everything until I have to run around the town, in the style of a made for TV Christmas movie just flinging things in to the trolley. (Or in reality, I'll bottle it sometime in November and get it done then).

NoWordForFluffy · 22/10/2019 17:42

I'm done bar The Twitch and an Aeropress for DH (if they go down on Black Friday).

I buy all year round if I see something that's right. My kids don't watch any adverts, so I doubt they'll get any more ideas now (I had to give them the Smyths' catalogue to give them ideas to start with)!

reluctantbrit · 23/10/2019 15:29

One thing as it was a star buy at Boots

DD always starts her list around mid-Nov meet, no way she wouldn’t change her mind any earlier and it takes the fun away during it too soon.

I. Normally finish around end of November as I prefer enjoying December on my weekends and not running around shopping. I also have to send parcels abroad.

Rosere · 23/10/2019 16:26

Our entire house has December birthdays so I have to be organised this early or is be broke😂. I also collect over the year. I have a stash of birthday presents for the parties, and I pick things up in post Christmas sales.

Lovemusic33 · 23/10/2019 16:29

Haven’t started it’s only October. I have started making lists on amazon for the kids but not actually bought anything.

unicornsandmermaids · 23/10/2019 18:56

I only need a boots voucher an amazon voucher and a smellies set ! Untill the Christmas twitch hits that is ConfusedConfused

SeaViewBliss · 23/10/2019 19:02

I don’t have huge amounts to get as I only have a handful of people to buy for and DCs are 15 & 22 so no little ones. DDs Birthday is in November so I rarely start buying anything before beginning of December. Usually DH does kids big present online and I get all the smaller bits. We have massively cut down in the last few years as they were drowning in ‘stuff for the sake of it’. My parents always have a kid so that’s easy and then there’s just my great Niece and Nephew, tradition with time is I always get them books so that’s easy too!

DH and I haven’t decided whether to buy for each other yet. Usually we get a few small things each and put some money in holiday fund.

I love Christmas but only in December!

SeaViewBliss · 23/10/2019 19:03

My parents have a list! They have several kids!

paranoiamumma · 23/10/2019 19:04

I have bought 2 of my 6 children their main presents and 2 of my other daughters some expensive shampoo that's it's !
I need to get the other 4 main gifts and little bits my grand child something he's brand new, so not much needed .
I also have my mum ( I hate buying her stuff as she hates everything I have ever bought)
My pils
Son in law and some very close friends plus my husband , normally I am usually completed by this point , some how I have screwed up 😂

Morgan12 · 23/10/2019 19:10

I like to be finished all my shopping before December so I can enjoy all the activities we have planned.

I have all of my youngest DS presents. And I'm waiting on Black Friday for my oldest DS as he wants alot of tech stuff.

I'm really organised this year and I'm loving it actually. Spreading the cost aswell which makes it much easier.
