Good board game for 9 year old

For the last few years I've got DD a board game that we can all play as a family, we already have snakes and ladders, two versions of monopoly, frustration, and a hatchimals board game. Any suggestions for what I can get for this year that has been a hit with your kids? Preferably something without a million tiny pieces that takes forever to build (I'm looking at you, Mouse Trap).

Zeus on the loose also a popular card game here.

I have ds1 who is 10 and ds2 who has just turned 9.

Our favourite board games at the moment are

Pandemic
Catan with explorers and pirates expansion
Terraforming Mars

Pandemic is probably ds2’s absolute favourite as we either all win together or all lose together.

Catan can take a while to play but for quick games we really like the card game version, Struggle for Catan.

Terraforming Mars is a fairly new one for us, but we’ve played it a few times now and we’re getting more familiar with the rules. It’s definitely becoming a favourite.

As a card game, Saboteur is great.

This year we’re getting ds2 the new Catan Starfarers game. Not sure what we’re getting ds1 yet.

Labyrinth looks quite popular, might have a look at that.

Labyrinth is the game that is best lived here - when we have had family gatherings with all ages from (then) 7 yr old to 85 yr old including several mid teens to mid 20s, it has gone down really well with everyone - there’s some skill to it but there’s also luck/chance so that everyone has a chance of winning. Ds2 (currently 11) loves games and can thrash all of us!

Another game he lives which is more of a solo game is Rush Hour. Ds used to play it as an app game but he loves doing it As a physical game. And if she likes it you can get expansion packs with a new car piece to add and a load more puzzles - which makes for a great stocking filler in subsequent years!

Has anyone suggested Labrinth?

Cluedo too

TeuchterTraveller · 16/09/2019 20:37

Mine enjoys Cluedo and Scotland Yard

NeutralJanet · 16/09/2019 20:38

Labyrinth seems to be the clear winner so I'll keep an eye out for it when I'm shopping, thanks.

Labyrinth is great for a short game
Also Castles of Mad King Ludwig is very very fun for a longer game and if you have a big table.

If you like cute card games Bohnanza is really fun.
