Say what?

Is this a thing now?

jomaIone · 11/09/2019 15:21

I think what you have is more than enough.

jomaIone · 11/09/2019 15:22

Sorry posted too soon. Is it not usually Christmas Eve box nowadays? December 1st isn't even really near Christmas so are the DC really putting on Xmas jammies and duvet covers??

MamaRaisingBoys · 11/09/2019 15:31

I’ll be doing 1st December boxes instead of Christmas Eve boxes. Our Christmas Eve is usually too busy to appreciate it.

I think 1st Dec is the perfect time to start using Christmassy duvets and pjs. It’s VERY near to Christmas.

I’ll also be adding Christmassy books (reused every year), advent candle, Christmas craft stuff, hot choc, tickets to see Santa, panto tickets. Maybe cards to write out for friends/relatives.

If you do the elf you could add that?

The only things that won’t come out until Xmas Eve are stockings and the Christmassy plate for Santa’s snacks.

ExpletiveDelighted · 11/09/2019 15:31

We get out the Christmas pyjamas and duvets (and teatowels and mugs) at the start of December with the Advent Calendars otherwise they only get a few days use. Also our Christmas books and DVDs when the DCs were younger. Never done Christmas Eve boxes though, I find that a bit OTT.

Nanasueathome · 11/09/2019 15:35

I’m baffled now
As far as I was concerned Christmas is/was 25th December
I’ve come round to the idea of a Christmas Eve Box as my daughter always does one for her little one
When my children were younger we always used to open a gift in Christmas Eve
1st December was when they were given advent calendars to open the windows in the build up to Christmas
I’ve never heard of a 1st December box before
Goodness me
My birthday is the end of January so I’m going to tell everyone I need a 1st January box, filled with goodies,

Nanasueathome · 11/09/2019 15:36

I love Christmas by the way, just cannot understand all the additional stuff

MamaRaisingBoys · 11/09/2019 15:40

Everything listed above is stuff you would use throughout the month of December anyway surely? Can’t understand why people get funny about that.

Unless you don’t have advent calendars/do crafts/read Xmas books/write out cards or whatever in which case just don’t do one!

The op was asking for ideas of what to put in, not if people agree with one or not

welshgirl666 · 11/09/2019 15:47

December 1st boxes have been around for quite a few years as far as I know! Lol! They are an alternative to xmas eve boxes (although some people do both).

As another poster said you don't get much use out of Christmas bedding/mugs/pjs etc if you only have them on xmas eve so this means you get to enjoy the things for longer (smile). We put our tree up at beginning of December so it feels Christmassy all month.

Christmas crafts to do throughout December is a good idea! Will also pop their panto tickets in! Thanks.

We don't do a gift box but we do dig out the box from the loft with all the Christmas books, DVD's and bedding that we've gathered over the years and give them their advent calendars - just bog standard chocolate ones rather than more stuff though!

Christmas Eve they get new pjs (not Christmas at just generic), slippers and a bath bomb/shower gel in a gift bag.

ItStillLooksLikeRainDear · 11/09/2019 16:46

We do both here! Love it! I also add a Christmas jumper and Christmas socks to ours to get plenty of use out of them - and there’s usually a Christmas jumper day at school.

ItStillLooksLikeRainDear · 11/09/2019 16:49

One year we also added Christmas fleece blankets for snuggling under on the sofa watching Christmas movies. We just reuse them now but they come out Dec 1st

CandyLeBonBon · 11/09/2019 16:50

Isn't that what advent calendars are for?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/09/2019 17:46

I put the Christmas /Winter bedding on Dec 1st (though DD has hers on Nov 1st Xmas Grin )

We do:

PJs
underwear
jar of sweets (traditional)
Bath Bomb
Robe

They need underwear/PJs/robe anyway

Mine are 17 and nearly 20 , there would be a riot if there was no Hamper Xmas Grin

1122christy · 11/09/2019 17:54

Yeah I much prefer doing a 1st Dec box than a Xmas eve box. Everyone is different though.
I put in Xmas pjs, their advent calendar, a Xmas book. Maybe a lush Xmas bath bomb and usually some cheap Xmas crafts to do over December. The works is usually good for that.

ysmaem · 11/09/2019 18:14

I add everything you've listed plus a "write a letter to santa kit" and a book to read

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 11/09/2019 18:21

Asking for clarity but are some pp saying they actually do:

1st December gift boxes
Christmas Eve gift boxes
And Christmas Day stockings/gifts?

ShockShockShock

What the fuck just happened to Christmas presents one day a year?

Cloudyyy · 11/09/2019 18:23

Do you do a big December 1st breakfast too? With an Elf? I’ve started to see them on social media the past few years... very sweet!

EnglishRose13 · 11/09/2019 19:10

I get my son a special tree ornament.

Fstar · 11/09/2019 19:55

Dvd and micro popcorn, baking kit like cookie kit,

leomama81 · 11/09/2019 19:56

I have never ever heard of either of these things before! And yes to a PP, that is what advent calendars are for.

I love Christmas, but this does just seem like another marketing tool to sell stuff tbh, sorry if that sounds Scrooge like but what happened to enjoying Christmas spirit and the build up without extra events to splash the cash on?

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 11/09/2019 19:59

My Dad works in the Holland and adopted their "Sinta Claus" day as kids. It happened on December 5th.
You get a bar of chocolate in the shape of the first letter of your name. You might also get sweeties left in your shoes.

INeedNewShoes · 11/09/2019 20:00

I need advice on what to put in our Boxing Day box. What does everyone else do?

Need some exciting pressies to put in there to counteract the post-Christmas anticlimax but running out of ideas once we've filled the December 1st and Christmas Eve boxes, advent calendar with a gift every day then the stockings and Christmas Day presents.

ellzebellze · 11/09/2019 20:00

that is what advent calendars are for

Christ I'm glad I didn't start any of this nonsense with my kids. Do they not have enough for Christmas that we need to give & give? It's bonkers....
