Some really good suggestions for me to go away and research. Thanks, everyone!

Hedgyhoggy · 15/09/2019 21:26

Ds loves the Lego skyline models but I’m loathed to spend so much on them. If anyone sees any at a bargain price I’d really appreciate to hear about it. He’s already got the London one.

gaggiagirl · 15/09/2019 21:30

We got the kids a kindle each when they were down to £29.99 last year. They aren't great. Clunky, slow, not user friendly, crap battery life.
Our DC only use them for watching YouTube and I read the odd book on them.

winewolfhowls Very have good discounts on all micro scooters right now.

Just a little warning if anybody is buying the new hidden side Lego sets that you need a phone or tablet with for them to become interactive. DS has a new galaxy tab 10.1 and it's not compatible with the app and it seems a few others are having the same issue with different tablets so check kids phones/tablets are compatible before buying.

UrbanMage · 15/09/2019 22:22

Seen on a couponing page on FB bit more stuff has been added to Nip+Fab's £5 page.

did not spend 65 quid on me at all...

CoffeeAndEnnui · 15/09/2019 22:51

That'sn exactly the set DD is saving for, @whereareyousleep, thanks for the advice.

CoffeeAndEnnui · 15/09/2019 22:52

*that's

SleeptightDaisy · 15/09/2019 22:58

Everything dinosaur is fab for all different makes of dinosaur plus accessories.

Jammiebammie · 15/09/2019 23:25

For the Lego hidden side (which is seriously cool!) check here for compatibility checks for all devices including phones. iPad mini is 5th gen and iPad is 5 & 6 so unfortunately the refurbished 1s & 2s just won’t work.

wibbletooth · 15/09/2019 23:40

I got ds a Lyn Acer tablet from Costco for his birthday this year. Was £110 and included a nice protective case and a mini/micro as card for the tablet.

Ideally he would have liked an iPad but given the choice of waiting for us to find a reasonable secondhand one for our budget vs a new android tablet he chose the android one. Also helped by the fact that he doesn’t have great eyesight so wanted as big a screen as possible.

He had used iPads and android tablets before and loves his tablet - it does everything he wants it to do so far, is fast enough, is big enough for him to see easily and was really good value. Certainly cheaper than a similar spec acer tablet at curry’s or Argos or John Lewis before the case and cars were added.

Costco seem to have limited choice of these things, get them in stock for 2 or 3 months then move on to a new set. I bet they’ll have a similar one in for Christmas though so would be worth including on your list to check at the time you’re ready to buy.

It’s also worth remembering that curry’s have a price match guarantee that’s valid for about 4 weeks/a month (check!) after you buy from them so if you get something and the price drops you can still claim!

wibbletooth · 15/09/2019 23:43

Hmmm. That was supposed to be a new acer tablet - no idea how autocorrect came up with Lyn!

CoffeeAndEnnui · 16/09/2019 00:13

Thanks so much, everyone. I've scrutinised the list Jammiebammie linked and I think my outdated tech and limited upgrade budget is going to go against me. I can just about stretch to the Amazon Fire 10 tablet which sounds new enough but has anyone actually used it for the Hidden Side app?

Great thinking about Costco too, will make sure I have a shortlist of tablet options and places to keep checking in on.

Apart from real-world bargain shopping on the £1 pink table at Flying Tiger, my only tips for bargains this week are the ongoing 50% off clearance sale at LaLaLand (the site is evolving into something new in a fortnight so worth bookmarking and watching for further reductions). And for those on Facebook, the Bargain Hunters Facebook Group for AuntieMims which you can find by going through the Facebook page I've linked and then asking to join.

Auntie Mims is good for more unusual gifts. My discount buys from them have included selenite unicorn horns, personalised football tables, a personalised rabbit hutch with toy rabbit and accessories and some gorgeous hand-turned wooden wands (also personalised!) They sell very cool patches too, nice stocking fillers for tweens.

GinCoffeeRepeat · 16/09/2019 01:35

Hi and thanks for the threads!
I am looking for a large ish dinosaur soft toy for DS 2. He may settle for a crocodile if anyone has seen one on offer.

Nordicwannabe · 16/09/2019 03:45

@CoffeeAndEnnui I went into our local Flying Tiger last week, and there wasn't a clearance table. Are they only on some days, or only at certain stores?

Nordicwannabe · 16/09/2019 06:46

Mia's house lego set currently £34.99 on Amazon - which looks like the best price it's ever been.

Jammiebammie · 16/09/2019 07:11

@GinCoffeeRepeat Asda have a huge dinosaur soft toy for £25. Oos on their website, but maybe in store? here

@CoffeeAndEnnui what age dc are you looking for the tablet for? Just wondering if an iPhone 6/7 would be cheaper, obviously can use without a SIM card if you didn’t want dc to have that ability and they’d basically be an iPod touch then. Wowcher have refurbished iPhone 6S for £119 and 7s for £199, I’ve seen similar prices elsewhere. Ignore if dc is too young.

Lc2006 · 16/09/2019 07:18

@CoffeeAndEnnui I got these ones last year bought 3 and none of them are slow.

Kids have downloaded loads of games onto them and still seem to work just fine. As far as I know with the kids version you get a case with it, a 2 year warranty and no ads on them.

I think if you google it there's a way to remove ads from the normal ones anyway if I remember rightly. Ipads might be better I've no idea I've never had the budget for them but these seem to have been great for what my kids wanted them for.

margaritasbythesea · 16/09/2019 07:19

Amazon have a Philips Lumea on their deals for £216 today. I'm not sure about which model but it's a good price.

Does anyone know if Very are still doing new customer codes? I can't seem to find one.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/09/2019 07:23

@margaritasbythesea, here's the current Very deal.

gaggiagirl · 16/09/2019 07:37

Morning bargain hunters!
Im after some skechers trainers for DD. Shes chosen 3 styles that she loves. Does anyone know if the skechers websites or stores do discount codes or events? I'll keep checking ebay and amazon in the mean time as im loathed to spend £45 on trainers then the indignity of £3.95 p&p!

Jammiebammie · 16/09/2019 08:01

@gaggiagirl the code ZEF9Q8 takes 15% off everything on the sketchers website.
I think you can go through topcashback too if you use that?

gaggiagirl · 16/09/2019 08:24

@Jammiebammie thank you so much! That has lessened the blow considerably!

Lc2006 · 16/09/2019 09:10

@gaggiagirl brantano have some sketchers reduced and you get 10% off your first order
