I have a 9 year old boy I'm really struggling with so I'm watching this 🤓

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 25/11/2018 23:16

OK; so my boys only 6 so he's getting the Little Tykes "My first Drone"
Your kid, on the other hand, has loads of options. Most models seem to be recommended for ages 8 and up.
Read some reviews and have a think about how much you'd like to spend.

My 9yo DS wants a ocuple of games for his Nintendo Switch, Harry Potter Lego, Bluetooth headphones, a football shirt, a snorkel mask and some books.

5BlueHydrangea · 25/11/2018 23:24

A go-kart, other sporting items e.g. Badminton set with net, cricket set, Roller skates, is he sporty?
A pet? My dd is 9 and we got her a hamster for her birthday but she has wanted one for ages.

iPod ?

explodingkittensexpansion · 26/11/2018 00:37

You can't really fly a drone anywhere unless you live in the countryside.

My 9-year-old got a Spiderman drone for his birthday, great success, he & DH play with it by a football field close to woodland where not many other people go. I don't remember it being very expensive and it's not v advanced I think, just the right level imo.
He has also asked for a nice analog wrist watch and an iPad + the apple pen (arty kid) (MIL is kindly helping pay for that).

jjemimapuddleduck · 26/11/2018 01:00

DS (9) has asked for a flip video camera as he loves animation (currently uses his Dad's flip camera), a book set & an Xbox game. He's also asked for a Minecraft Xbox controller from my sister.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 26/11/2018 01:05

flip video camera
Might steal that idea for DS upcoming birthday jjemimapuddleduck.
Which one are you getting if you don't mind me asking?

caringcarer · 26/11/2018 01:05

For birthday got 10 year old an expensive proper cricket bat For Xmas he is having proper stumps and more quality cricket balls in his stocking also voucher for 1-1 spin bowling coaching. He also is having a nice watch as he currently uses the Lego one but it is a bit babyish for him now. We don't allow him to have mobile phone or X box gaming systems as we prefer him to take part in multiple sports which he enjoys and participates in at a high level but we are getting him an ishuffle for some music to listen to in his room. We did ask what he wanted but all he could think of was more Pokemon cards.

Which watch are you going for? (DS wants analog.)

jjemimapuddleduck · 26/11/2018 01:38

@VanellopeVonSchweetz99, not my area of expertise (at all), DH wants to buy this one
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074T5XQBH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_SPT-BbB11K6DA?tag=mumsnetforum-21 plus an SD card.

If your son is also into animating, does he have the animation modelling clay?

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 26/11/2018 01:52

jjemimapuddleduck
Thanks!
No clay yet, mostly his own digital drawings or stop-start sketches with toy figurines, ie Lego, small cuddly toys, dolls.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 26/11/2018 01:53

And live action with his mates as actors ... on his tablet so not ideal perhaps.

BumblebeeBum · 26/11/2018 07:51

Activity tracker like Fitbit Ace (kids verison which doesn’t have calorie tracking like adult version does).

Scalextric

Ds loved his velocitrax remote control truck at that age and also had a kids drone, which was well used.

Biscuitsneeded · 26/11/2018 07:57

A scooter? All the rage round here!

OldBrownShoe · 26/11/2018 08:07

Mini fridge for his room? Can keep his juice/snacks in there.

IHeartKingThistle · 26/11/2018 08:14

DS is getting Hot wires. He hasn't asked for a thing so I hope he likes it, I think it will be up his street!

My mum is getting him an echo dot.

stridesy · 26/11/2018 08:39

We got our 9 year old a multi games table and a action camera. Next year I'm thinking main present will be anki drive

AlienBotanist · 26/11/2018 08:55

DS wants a big Lego set, so easy when they know what they want!
