How to stop Christmas wreath being stolen?

Anyone suggest how I can secure our Christmas wreath to our new front door which has nothing to hang it on? The long handle is on one side.
There is no knocker to tie it onto which I used to cable tie the wreath onto. Someone tried to wrench it off late one evening last year off our old door but luckily gave up. (Id put about 4 cable ties on it luckily).

I’ve seen those things you can hang it on over the door but feel it isn’t secure enough. Or if I hang it on how to secure it?

I know it’s only a wreath but it’ll be annoying if it’s stolen. TIA.

Our wreath came with a metal bar that folds over the top of the door, which seemed quite secure.

Nothing helpful to say just... who steals a wreath?!?!? Bloody grinch running around town!

mumonashoestring · 31/10/2018 18:57

The grown up me would say buy the most robust over-door hanger you can find and then use plenty of garden wire to fix your wreath to it.

But the more honest me says buy some mouse traps, spray them gold, set them and stuff them into your wreath [santa]

Iaim they get stolen off the flippng graves, as well as doors in our village Shock

Nesssie · 31/10/2018 18:59

Someone just stole one of my pumpkins...

Iaimtomisbehave1 · 31/10/2018 19:09

I can't believe people steal stuff like this. How miserable do you need to be to steal decorations...

itsjustmebeingme · 31/10/2018 19:12

Great idea mumonashoestring....maybe adorn with a few glitter covered razor blades! (Only joking....kinda!)

Fwend · 31/10/2018 19:21

Someone stole my snowman when I was a kid. Felt a bit sorry for the thief though, as our dog had pissed all up the sides.

Figmentofimagination · 31/10/2018 19:24

I use an over the door hanger, and the wreath is cable tied to the hanger. My parents do this and also use string tied to the wreath, through the letter box and attached to something on the inside of the door.

PumpkinSpiceAmericanoNoSugar · 31/10/2018 19:24

We hang ours from a nail hammered into the top of the inside of the door and then use wire to hang it. The wire is thin enough that the door will shut. We don't have a problem with theft but if we did then I would do several nails and several individual loops of wire so that they would need a wire cutter to be able to remove it.

mimibunz · 31/10/2018 19:25

I decided to hang mine in the front window because of the idiot thieves stumbling home after the pub.

Olivo · 31/10/2018 19:25

I hang mine from a sturdy ribbon which I staple to the top of the actual door with a staple gun.

RussellTheRaven · 31/10/2018 19:31

I have a hook on my door all year round Blush

I just hang it on the hook. No wire or cable ties. No one bothers to nick it. But we do live in a naice area. We love putting up tacky decorations and big inflatables, much to our neighbours disgust!! House prices dropped when we moved in! Grin

Fishing line is your friend. Old trick if the trade. Just need to find someone who fishes

SoyDora · 31/10/2018 19:38

Shock I just stick ours on a hook! Can’t believe people have others try and steal them!

LizzieBennettDarcy · 31/10/2018 19:39

Wire it to the mains Grin

Mine goes on the back door. We’ve ‘lost’ garden ornaments and the rabbit’s run. Fortunately Badger, the rabbit, was safely in his hutch.

Someone stole my snowman when I was a kid.

Are you sure it didn't just melt? Wink

SawnUpLooRoll · 31/10/2018 19:45

Make your own out of really spiky shrubbery and sprinkle it with chilli powder.

Lemontwist · 31/10/2018 19:46

I just went to bring the pumpkin in because we've run out of sweets to find it's been nabbed! And about 30 seconds after I posted on a different thread about how lovely all our trick or treaters have been this year Halloween Grin

Sorry, no help about the wreath though. We have an arched glass door with nothing to attach anything too so been wondering the same thing.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/10/2018 19:48

Wire it to the mains?

choystory · 31/10/2018 19:49

Great short story on this theme...

Oh no @Nesssie that’s just ridiculous, a pumpkin?!

That’s terrible @BernardsarenotalwaysSaints

I know @Iaimtomisbehave1 and @SoyDora, I didn’t think it was possible too until we heard a racket at the door, came downstairs and no one was there. It was when we checked the cctv footage and saw someone wrestling Hmm with it we realised. Some people!

Anyway thank you all, will try an overdoor hook and tying it up as much as possible to it, fingers crossed.
