How do you decorate your tree and with what colours?

I've never had my own tree, always been at my parents. Getting one this year and I think I'm gonna get mainly silver decorations with a few blue for some colour and use warm coloured lights. Can't wait to decorate. Grin

Mine is also an eclectic mix of all sorts. I love getting out our collection of decorations each year, they really make me smile.

wildride · 11/10/2018 19:05

This was ours last year, this year we're having two. Dh and ds can put their crap on one and I'll have one to myself. Grin

These are all gorgeous trees by the way.

Can't wait to buy stuff for mine. I'm going to add to it over the years of course. First year it's probably going to be a bit boring and not very personal but that will change with time. Smile

It's taken me YEARS to get all of mine.

Chrisinthemorning · 11/10/2018 19:15

White lights. Decorations are mainly red, gold and white, going for a Scandi look. Quite a few knitted and wooden. We have lots of one off ones that we have bought in different places/ that DS has made/ that mean something to us though.
I love our tree.

Chrisinthemorning · 11/10/2018 19:17

Here’s ours last year. The tree is Balsam Hill

Here is my snowy tree...although I'm tempted to go for a real tree with warm lights this year, I've always loved red, gold and green.

I sometimes want to do a nostalgic tree with foil decorations, thin tinsel and lights like fat plastic flowers, all in pink, teal, royal blue and all those classic Christmas colours.

In the end though, I don't think you can beat dark red and gold on a green tree, with warm white lights. My tree is mostly Traditional Victorian Christmas, with a good sprinkling of Yule on top; mostly second hand decorations with almost no two alike. I love it, even though I have to stand it on my dining table because I've no room.

I want some of the space themed ones from
John Lewis. Unfortunately, so did everyone else and they all seemed to sell out the second they went on sale.

Hope they come back in stock!

This was ours last year. I normally stick to a traditional red, gold, green colour scheme as I find it so warm looking. We get fresh tree every year....love the smell. My doggie loves it too!!

My coworker/friend had a different theme/color every single year. I don’t know how you can afford that tbh

Allthepinkunicorns · 11/10/2018 19:45

I collect Christmas decorations so I have no colour scheme but I have quite a few and I've been collecting for at least 10 years now. I started out with gold baubles which I now put in a glass vase and put in the kitchen.

DaisyChainsForever · 11/10/2018 19:55

I have a white tree with teal decorations.. along these lines..

We have baubles in various colours, red, gold, silver, pink, purple, blue and green. Not only in typical bauble round shape but also bells.

Real candles and lots of glass, wood and straw ornaments.

Around 13 years ago we started a tradition to bring an ornament back from a holiday, it started with one from Prague Christmas market, we somehow manage to always find a all-year-round open shop. The newest one was bought this year in Barbados, a bauble covered in tiny shells.

reluctantbrit · 11/10/2018 19:58

Oh, and not one piece of tinsel allowed

gothefcktosleep · 11/10/2018 19:58

Red, cream, gold buy a new ornament each year as a tradition

val4 · 11/10/2018 20:01

A closer one of the decorations......I've being building them up for 20 years so all have sentimental value!

I have more ornaments than tree, no matter how tall or fat we go. All gathered up over the years, and every one brings a smile and a memory as I unwrap it to hang. I love my tree. This year we shall be having at least one more, that will probably be less eclectic, more themed. We'll see.

It's my birthday Saturday and my birthday gift is new tree and decorations. I'm very excited. For the past few years we have had a john Lewis 6ft white LED twig tree which fitted with our modern home and its had either realistic birds or white red and grey minimalist decorations and I'm missing colour and greenery. So this year our tree will be taking a rest ( I also use it as an Easter tree) and I've chosen a rainbow theme with decorations from marks and Spencers. Couldn't be more different and I probably will regret it next year when I will wish I'd gone for a red/whitr/green theme. But I fancied a bit of fun and I'm so excited about Christmas this year as we get to spend it with our granddaughter. I think little one and myself are the only ones in to Christmas and I'm enjoying magic again.

wildride I love your tree!

We have a real tree, it has a vague theme of woodland creatures with eclectic other objects, but the colour is all over the shop. Not as beautiful as some but I love it.

I quite like the rainbow trees I've been seeing on pintrest for the last couple of years, but I can't change our set up now.

FrankIncensed · 11/10/2018 20:13

White and gold. We buy a new decoration every year to represent the year, e.g the year we bought our first house we bought a house shaped decoration, and the year we married two turtle doves. This year we aren't at home so won't bother with a tree, I will miss it!

Santaclarita · 11/10/2018 20:15

I'm trying to think of what I need to buy. I'm literally starting from scratch I have nothing.

Tree (fake no more than 5ft)
Baubles
Tinsel
Lights for tree
Lights for stairs
Lights for windows
Skirt for tree
Snowflake stickers for windows

I kind of want to put something in the garden but I think it will just get nicked. Not putting up anything on the door as we rent.

Have I forgotten anything obvious?

@Stompythedinosaur thanks! We cut it ourselves every year. DH has one in mind for this year but I know his Dad has his eye on the same one so it'll be whoever gets it first! Grin

dementedpixie · 11/10/2018 20:36

Do you have glass panels on your door? We normally stick a big sucker on the door for a wreath
