Anyone fancy a Christmas craft chat?

Is anyone working on any craft projects for christmas yet? I’m itching to get started but can’t get stuck in for another week or so, so still at the grand plans stage.
My mum and sister went for colour consultations last Christmas and have been culling their wardrobes since so I’m planning on making some shopping totes to tone in with their colour schemes/styles.
My ds’s are both heavily into minecraft so I might have a go at some soft furnishings for their bedroom.
When dn comes over we often bake and she’s out grown the toddler aprons so I thought I might make her an apron.
I want to make some lightly padded cushion covers to store extra bedding, for myself but I’m thinking that they might be useful for my older dn who has moved into a shoebox her first flat, so I’ll see what she thinks of them when I’m done with my own ones and maybe make her some for Christmas.
I found a doll house in a charity shop and have been collecting furniture for it, and planning to do it up. I’m not sure if it’s suitable for dn yet as she’s only 8 and the furniture is very, very delicate. I think I might just be indulging myself with that one!

Anyone else got any plans or projects underway?

This is the Barbie furniture. There are 2 sleeping bags stored under the sofa/day bed but you can’t really see them on the pic. I also made a summer and winter school uniform for DD’s 18” doll out of her old school shirts and dresses but don’t have any pics of those on my phone.

That Barber furniture is absolutely lovely

SockEatingMonster · 10/08/2018 17:43

Thanks ComeTheFuckOnBridget, she’s asked for a classroom set next!!

I really want to try and make some fabric gift bags that can be reused year after year, but can't really do it until I've brought gifts. I'd also like to make some things out of salt dough with DS.

Oooh watching with interest! Currently very behind on a baby present but after that will turn my attention to Christmas crafts. One thing I meant to do last year was a sock snowman for my DM so will dig that out again. Want to make cards this year too!

Aww, Theweasleytwins , that Cinderella is gorgeous! I knit, but I can't crochet. Would love to though as I've seen loads of patterns I want to try. 'Tis really cute though! Xmas Grin

AgathaRaisinsCat · 10/08/2018 19:30

I've started making the 12 Days of Christmas in felt. Not sure what will be next. I quite fancy a tree skirt.

Agatha that is beautiful Xmas Shock

BabloHoney · 10/08/2018 20:03

Some of these are brilliant! Some very talented people! I love Christmas and have already made some little elves. Blue Peter might not be offering me a gig any time soon but they were fun to make 😉

WOW - I'm in awe.

SockEatingMonster · 10/08/2018 21:18

I think people who can knit and crochet are very talented. It’s harder than it looks!

My ‘I want to make’ list is getting very long...

mynaughtylittlesister · 10/08/2018 21:30

What a lovely thread! I love making stuff, I did start earlier this year but gradually dwindled to nothing! This is making me itch to get on and clear my craft room that has in recent weeks looked like a dumping ground!

I gets lots of ideas from Pinterest.

Polkapjs · 10/08/2018 21:51

I want to make those elves!! How?! The 12 days of Christmas are simply beautiful and I want to buy them. Bunting is all I think I can manage though. Any pics?

BabloHoney · 10/08/2018 22:20

Polkapjs (excellent user name) the elves are so easy to make! Just felt, thread, beads and pipe cleaners all very cheap from Hobby Craft.. theenchantedtree.blogspot.com/2010/10/new-bendy-dolls-and-tutorial.html?m=1

This thread has made me feel all happy and Christmassy ☺️ Even though it’s only August

AgathaRaisinsCat · 10/08/2018 22:24

Polk, the 12 Days are easier than they look. Patterns were from Mmm Crafts.

DickensianHysteric · 10/08/2018 22:27

Glad I found this thread! I do cross stitch and I was thinking just yesterday that I'd better plan to make a start on some stuff for Christmas.
I've got patterns and all the kit for some tree decorations that I've been meaning to make for the past two years. I am determined to make them this year! I'm a very slow stitcher though, hence the need to start in August.

BonnieLass5 · 10/08/2018 22:29

I would like to join.

I don't have sewing/knitting skills but I'm interested in more basic craft if anyone's got any inspiration.

BonnieLass5 · 10/08/2018 22:31

Wow, some seriously amazing craft! I definitely need to learn some more skills.

OldGreyBoots · 11/08/2018 01:29

I've started a cross stitch picture that I'd like to have finished by the end of November 2020 probably so it can be hung through the festive season. Struggling to find time with a dissertation on the go now!

Redgreencoverplant · 11/08/2018 06:56

I'm only good at cross stitch so have made these for the tree :) Have five more to go so any ideas for patterns much appreciated.

I was planning on a crochet Christmas blanket (it was going to be an outdoor scene, cottage, snow covered hill / mountain and a huge decorated tree) but I won't have time this year. I'm planning on making some Christmas cushion covers instead but haven't started yet.

A few years ago I made lots of bunting (fairy lights, snowflakes and last year I made a Santa washing line and some mini Christmas trees) and have had requests for more so may start them when I get home from my holiday...

Redgreen I wish I had the patience to cross stitch. I have these pinned on my Pinterest..

I’d love to join you all. Some lovely projects on this thread and great inspiration.

I’ve got a few things I’d like to do for Christmas and thought if I list them on this thread then I might tick some off my list.

But before I do any of those I need to finish my Quilt of Doom. I started quilting it then the hot weather came and it’s just been too awful to contemplate manhandling the beast. I need to rename it though, perhaps Better Finished than Perfect.

My list:

  1. I bought a printed decoration panel the year before last, sort of Scandi-style. Just need to cut out the shapes out, sew and stuff.
  1. Make small lap quilt with recently purchased fat quarters. Simple pattern like disappearing 9 patch.
  1. Make some Christmas pot holders in the shape of gingerbread men. Hmm
  1. Make either snow globe or scene in jar with fawns and mini Christmas trees.

Quite frankly I’ll be amazed if I get half of that done.

Redgreencoverplant · 11/08/2018 14:04

Thanks crazy :)
