What do you glaze your ham with?

I am boiling the ham tonight. Will glaze and bake it tomorrow evening when our guests arrive. We traditionally eat hot ham with mustard, pickles and fresh bread for supper on Christmas Eve.

What is your favourite glaze?
Thanks

Mustard, golden granulated sugar and a bit of maple syrup

Loungingbutnotforlong · 23/12/2017 21:11

Love the BBC good food maple syrup and whole grain mustard glaze.

Plain white sugar and English mustard, breadcrumbs to make a crust too if you have time.

I boil it in pineapple juice and honey and cloves. Then reduce the pineapple and honey down to a sticky glaze, bake the ham with some of the glaze over it and then let the ham sit in the rest of the glaze until eating.

The Jamie Oliver one, soy sauce, honey, Demerara sugar, star anise, cinnamon and ginger. It's lovely.

Slow cooker it in ginger beer then glaze in a mixture of ginger preserve and grainy mustard with studded cloves. So delicious.

Maple syrup and Dijon mustard or if I’ve not got maple syrup, Golden syrup. I use any mustard if I’ve not got Dijon in. Am I even allowed on MN if I’ve not got Dijon in the fridge dahling? Xmas Grin

Boil it in cola, then glaze with marmalade and cloves and finish off in oven on high. We'll have it with mash and carrots and peas on Christmas eve as is our tradition. Love it.

TheLegendOfBeans · 23/12/2017 21:29

Marmalade and soy. Lovely stuff.

Marmalade and ginger.
Apricot jam and all spice.

Boil it in ginger beer and tangerine zest. Then glaze with ginger beer mixed with honey and whole grain mustard. Stud with cloves before baking. Yummy!

Grumpbum · 23/12/2017 21:34

Ham novice here but I have a massive one. Can I boil it tomorrow and then bake on Xmas day? Will this work ok?

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 23/12/2017 21:52

Redcurrant jelly and dijon mustard.

Mummylin · 23/12/2017 21:53

Honey, brown sugar and mustard. Cooked in the slow cooker.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 23/12/2017 22:02

Mix English mustard and marmalade together. Smear it over the hot recently boiled ham then roast it in the oven for half an hour minimum for the glaze to set.

I'll be serving it hot with cauliflower and broccoli cheese, potatoes mashed with cheese and onion, and, for the first time, cooked red cabbage.

It will then be served cold for the rest of Christmas on an as and when basis dependent on what meal it's being served at.

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 23/12/2017 22:11

Biscay yes, it’ll be fine. I often boil one day and glaze the next or cook overnight in the slow cooker and glaze the following in the evening.

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 23/12/2017 22:32

Thanks @EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic will boil tomorrow and then we're going for a marmalade glaze on Xmas morning.

Crumbs1 · 23/12/2017 22:33
