Help me sort out my shit tree!

I've never been especially good at tree decorating and haven't really been able to figure out where I'm going wrong.

This year has been compounded by the shitness of the tree! I swear it looked good in the shop... But as soon as the lights and decs were put on it looked all straggly and limp and shite.

So, short of buying another tree, do any of you have any top tips for how to salvage it?!

Help me sort out my shit tree!

I think another string of lights and more decorations should do it.

SparklingSnowfall · 11/12/2017 13:01

Lights! Loads more lights!

WowserBowser · 11/12/2017 13:25

I like it! Just a few more bits on

EdinaMonsoon · 11/12/2017 14:39

I would use some bead garlands on the upper branches. You can drape them so they fill up the space a bit more. Also perhaps some longer or larger decorations on the upper branches too? That's the bit that looks a little sparse to me.

peachypetite · 11/12/2017 14:40

More lights and more baubles. More is more!

Fantasticmissfoxy · 11/12/2017 14:43

Hmm it is a fairly unbalanced tree unfortunately - might be worth getting some thick wired ribbon, twist it so it sort of forms a spiral and drape it across the branches, particularly in the big gaps at the top

Rubyslippers7780 · 11/12/2017 14:46

If it makes you feel better mine is way shitter. Between the toddler and the kitten it has been tipped at least twice daily since it was put up. Most decorations now off. I am declaring it is some kind of statement....

AstridWhite · 11/12/2017 14:52

It looks a bit droopy. Does it need watering?

clevername · 11/12/2017 14:54

Cool. Thank you. Will give that a go.

I like the red theme. I know it's a MN no-no but I would bung a load of tinsel on the top half.

ClashCityRocker · 11/12/2017 14:56

It will look better with the curtains drawn. Light shining through from windows always makes it look spindly.

I think it would benefit from beads, tinsel or ribbons particularly at the top, and a few more lights.

JellyJ · 11/12/2017 15:04

I like it! Maybe a few more decorations lower down, or more lights, if you feel it needs more. I fill any gaps in mine up with paper decorations the kids made when they were younger.

clevername · 11/12/2017 15:05

Managed to miss those last few posts somehow! More great suggestions, thank you.

Astrid - it's got water. Think the droopiness is prob down to it being a tired old tree. It was £15 in B&Q on Saturday. I guess you get what you pay for!

Paper chains would work to pad it out if tinsel isn't your thing.

Japanese · 11/12/2017 15:10

Ooo, yes, paper chains probably better than tinsel.

And 15 quid is a bargain.

Wildestflower · 11/12/2017 15:27

I second paper chains. Also those snowflake thingies the DC knock up. Pop a bit of thread/ string through and hang. If you don't want tinsel, strings of popcorn look good and add bulk. Suggest you move the bigger decorations a bit lower down and pop a few more lights up top.

Wildestflower · 11/12/2017 15:28

Also for bulk, twist pop cleaners together. Red and white ones make a candy cane like thing and you can hook those on the branches and green or brown ones can be turned into little wreaths. Wrap them round a pencil, uncurl and join the ends together.

goose1964 · 11/12/2017 15:42

It needs lots of tinsel, and more baubles to add to the current decorations

Mrsknackered · 11/12/2017 15:46

I like it!

You can get this stuff called angel hair which is really fine glittery strands, I always throw some of that on Wink

ineedwine99 · 11/12/2017 15:47

Could you buy some bigger baubles for the top part to fill the gaps? or ribbon bows?

SleepingStandingUp · 11/12/2017 15:49

Is move your bigger ornaments down to the lower branches then do strings of beads, lights and smaller ornaments at the top to work with the trees natural shape

spiderlight · 11/12/2017 19:51

I will be drummed out of MN for saying this but it would look fuller with a bit of tinsel. Naice tinsel, obviously - thick gold or silver, not straggly horrible stuff.

Wildestflower · 11/12/2017 20:10

There's no naice tinsel. It's all spun by the devil.

MrsDc7 · 11/12/2017 20:12

Omg what?? Tinsel is fantastic! I love it

GummyGoddess · 11/12/2017 20:15

No, tinsel is horrible! It smells bad, it's itchy when you touch it and it makes a horribly noise!
