Is anyone making presents?

I'm not particularly crafty, but can follow simple instructions ok! We're not big on xmas gifts here and I was thinking of making something for the DCs to pad theirs out a little.

Alternatively, I thought I might help each DC make something for the other - moon sand or play-dough, just something little and they can choose colours or whatever. There's actually loads on pinterest that is pretty simple, I even whipped up a batch this afternoon!

Is anyone else making presents for anyone?

I have a cupboard of jam and chutney that I've made over the last couple of months.

LilithTheKitty · 21/11/2017 14:29

I've crocheted a minions hat and some mermaid dolls.

ShesAStar · 21/11/2017 14:30

I have Sloe Gin brewing for Christmas presents

ShesAStar · 21/11/2017 14:31

I’d love a crocheted mermaid doll!

hollowtree · 21/11/2017 14:31

Christmas biscuits! Like regular biscuits... but in the shape of trees, snowmen, whatever you like!

yasmin05 · 21/11/2017 14:43

Christmas cookies and fruit cakes! :)

LilithTheKitty · 21/11/2017 16:51

Some pictures...
All of the mermaids have different coloured hair and tops but I only have a picture of one of them. They're really nice to make.

Oh wow Lilith you’re properly talented- mine would love those.

poooooooop · 21/11/2017 17:36

That’s amazing lilith

I made rum truffles and mini Christmas cake truffles for teachers and neighbours last year. They were easy peas so going to do them again this year!
Also keen on making mince pies.

I knit and crochet too, my friend is knitting mittens for many people. If I want to do that I need to get a wriggle on as I’m so slow!!

LilithTheKitty · 21/11/2017 18:17

Aw thanks. Here's the mermaid pattern if anyone wants it. They come out about the size of your hand and they're really quick to do. Loving the sound of all the foodstuffs everyone is doing.

poooooooop · 21/11/2017 19:16

Thanks for the pattern! I’ll give it a go! I love that crochet is quicker than knitting

ivykaty44 · 21/11/2017 19:21

Some off my bed presents when I was growing up were handmade by mum and dad

One year they made me a four poster bed out of ply wood and broom handles and painted white, then mum made frilly top curtains and duvet cover to match 🙂

I lived it’s uniqueness

The dolls Oran has matching sheets with the same pattern

Knitted dresses for dolls and botties

katmarie · 21/11/2017 19:27

I’m knitting a cushion for my mum to go in her room, to match her decor. I’m also knitting booties for a baby shower at the moment too.

Theresnonamesleft · 21/11/2017 19:38

I'm crocheting fingerless gloves for us all. On an evening we are warm but fingers are freezing and don't want to sit with gloves. Tried the half finger ones last year but they got in the way, so this year attempting the leg warmer equivalent. Seems like a fun way to learn haha.

Also made the youngest a book mark, which was very easy and tried various stitches (if that the right term?)

sausagerole · 21/11/2017 20:46

Oooh you lot are organised! And skilled!

Unfortunately my repertoire only extends as far as following simple recipes for playdough and cookies (not the same recipe, obv!), but I'm really looking forward to doing it with the DC as a kind of 'anticipating christmas' activity.

Lilith, those mermaids are amazing - love their hair! And Ivy, I love the sound of your bed!

sausage we made salt dough handprints and starts for the tree last year. Came out really nice

sausagerole · 21/11/2017 22:13

oh that's a lovely idea poooooop, hadn't thought of that! And then there's painting them too...

poooooooop · 21/11/2017 22:22

Yeah we cut out the hand print shape and then painted them in to a Father Christmas with the fingers as a beard. I’ll find a pic

Just popped into say that mermaid doll is awesome. You could sell those!

LilithTheKitty · 21/11/2017 22:41

Oh I'm glad the pattern will be used! The hair is my favourite part. I found the wool and thought it would make amazing mermaid hair so went searching for a pattern.
I don't sell stuff though. Making it to order takes the fun out of it I've found when I've done requests (unpaid)in the past. Its also hard to charge enough to cover the time it takes. People dont want to pay it and I don't want to undercut/devalue the work of people who are actually trying to make a living from it. O just do it for fun and gifts Grin

ShesAStar · 21/11/2017 22:51

Lilith, they’re gorgeous! If I could crochet I’d make some!

Singadream · 21/11/2017 22:56

@poooooooop how do you cut out the hand shape? Do you get the kid to press hand into the dough then you cut it out?

@lillith they are amazing.

You need to check out the poncetastic thread.

RaininSummer · 21/11/2017 23:10

I have made three pairs of socks, six candles and a tiger hat.

redshoeblueshoe · 21/11/2017 23:10

Lilith that mermaid is great, thanks I'll make one of those
