I know they're super tacky, but I love themGrin.

I'm finally going to start one this year, does anyone fancy showing any photos of theirs from previous years to give me inspiration? Grin

Have looked at all the images. Definitely won't be submitting mine to the online gallery!
The platforms all seem to be brown, and/or tree trunks. Doesn't this look a bit odd when everything else is snowy?

I think the key is where you put it really. We had ours on a high sideboard up until last year, out of the reach of little people. This year we're thinking it needs to go on a different sideboard, which is bigger, but is in our hallway. I think to be honest it will be wasted out there, because it needs to be in the main room. They look better with a few pieces, we bought a couple the first year and then my Dh buys one every year. I thought the mountain was it for this year, but apparently not. He is browsing the catalogue as we speak. We only buy the 'nice' ones, such as teddy bear shop, rather than for example 'ye olde shoe repair shop' , although I did see this year they have a 'reindeer vet' and if you peep through the windows there are little reindeer in there!

As an aside, if you want accessories then places like hobbycraft/ the works do bottle brush trees for about £2 where the lemax ones are £12!!

Sorry Leeds X posted- our mountain is grey and snowy, not brown. Do you have a garden centre that stocks it and has a display near you?

Leeds2 · 17/11/2017 20:51

Thanks for that tip re the trees!

I bought tea pot shoppe, and a tea room, for the benefit of my 19 year old who is tea obsessed. I hadn't noticed a teddy bear shop, so will go back and have a look for my own purposes! I bought a couple of other buildings too, think it was a school and a house but won't be delivered until Monday. Plus a few people.

It will be displayed on a fairly large coffee table, as only me and DD will see it so shouldn't be destroyed! Am quite excited about the project, but I'm saving building it until she gets home from uni so it is something we can do together. I think/hope she will like it!

Am just going to leave this here...

enjoy

I haven't laughed so much (hysterically?!) in a long time!

Thinking I need to ditch the coffee table, and hire some builders ........

Novemberblues · 17/11/2017 22:47

Yes I have one and it's not on a table
It's on mantle piece in among the things already there and is different heights so it more blended in, it works well like that. And spread out like a real village.

haba · 17/11/2017 22:51

We have lots of the lego winter village, but the pieces have all been appropriated by children!
I do like the resin/ceramic ones....they are very twee, but there's something very endearing about them.

Leeds2 · 17/11/2017 22:53

I get the idea that different heights is good. I am just wondering how to achieve that on a table. Not worried about the spread out bit - my table is big!! Especially when you consider this is my first year at this, and I am not expecting too much!
I do have a mantle piece, with nothing apart from a very moveable clock on it, but again, would need the height. sadly, my DD doesn't get home from uni until 21st Dec and she will have much more idea than me!
Still, work in progress and all that .........
