This thread is for Christmas 'snobs'.
Proud to be one. 🎩🎅
So if you're not a fan of elf on the shelf or excessive mountains of tat this is where you can hang out and be safe from discussion of boots 3 for 2 gift sets.

I was asking if you were one?.... I didn't tell you you were.
Your posts were coming across that way. You didn't like that I preferred my kids to think about their futures, bit more about what their friends were getting

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 20/10/2017 22:35

I think there are two types of Christmas snob coming across here.
The type i think the OP meant are those who disapprove of giving every woman in your family last year's Boots sale toiletries, think elf on the shelf is shit, find photos of stashes tacky, don't see the point in matching PJs etc. It's more about judging those who are trying so hard to make Christmas wonderful (or at least giving the impression it is) they feel the need to do everything.

The second type are posting about their 'classier' traditions but they are just coming across as pretentious and superior.

As for hot chocolate, we drink it all year round in my house - i feel sorry for anyone who has to wait for Christmas to be here to enjoy it.

Christinayangstwistedsista · 20/10/2017 22:36

Is it a bad time to discuss Christmas decorations for your car?

Chickpearocker · 20/10/2017 22:36

Why so much hate? The thread was supposed to be lighthearted was it not, seems you have taken it personally.

NoMapOfMyHead · 20/10/2017 22:37

It wasn't a thread designed to make people feel small. It's tongue in cheek. People taking the piss out of themselves. So what if people don't like elf in a shelf. Many people don't like real trees but the real tree lovers aren't getting offended.
It's different to other threads, and what you like and you feel threatened so you're being defensive.

plus3 · 20/10/2017 22:37

Since when has all the emojis been allowed??? It is looking very suspiciously like ticker tape .... misses point

Slimthistime · 20/10/2017 22:38

Why does anyone put oats in the garden?!

"elfonthemotherfuckingshelf" is brilliant. I actually didn't know what it was before I joined MN.

(I'm not a fan of Christmas, I was just curious to see if it was Margo Leadbetter posting or something).

ladymariner · 20/10/2017 22:41

Sparkling come and join us, and bring your glittery Santa with you ✨🎅 we're ignoring all the bickering, its all about the sparkles, the glitter, the Baileys and jon's dancing Santa 🎅🎄 ✨ 💃 ✨ 🎅🎄 come and feel the festive love!!! 💖 x

I don't know why buying my 6yo a shopkin pack for £2.99 makes me not care about her future?

I buy her a 'piece of plastic tat' shopkin, her and her friends get endless joy playing with them and discussing them when they come round to play. Whose got what ones, swapping them, talking about which ones they'd like.

That's normal behaviour children isn't it?

If that makes me a materalistic wannabe then so be it.

I don't do elf on the shelf and a million other traditions. But I don't look down on those that do.

My 10yo DD will be receiving presents mainly based around books. Because she has very few other interests. She wants to be an author when she grows up and lives and breathes books.

My 6yo DD however is a plastic tat queen. She is all thinks pink & princessy

Anonnamechangeranon · 20/10/2017 22:43

Good that spelling and grammar is awful! My 10yo would be ashamed of me 😂😂😂

ladymariner · 20/10/2017 22:45

Slim its food for the reindeer and the Christmas robins, combined with another chance to spread even more glitter around!! ❇✨ ❇✨ ❇✨

elQuintoConyo · 20/10/2017 22:45

Margo Leadbetter's Christmas came in a van from Harrods. Woman after my own heart.

NoMapOfMyHead · 20/10/2017 22:48

It doesn't anon
Just the same as buying my son plastic lego doesn't.
It's the amount of plastic crap.

Slimthistime · 20/10/2017 22:50

Lady - thanks for clearing that up.

round here it would just attract rats and pigeons!!

OvertheSargassoSea · 20/10/2017 22:55

What is elf on the shelf? Pics?

40andFat · 20/10/2017 22:58

All this thread has done for me is give me more ideas of what else I can do to clearly enjoy a naff Xmas....where do I get a log that shits presents I need to get me one of those 🎄🎄

LouMumsnet · 20/10/2017 22:59

Ahem. Hmm

As so many of you are already getting in the festive spirit, it would be nice if that sense of peace and goodwill to all men extended to your fellow MNers.

We know that discussions of gifts sets (or not) can get heated but please do have a quick look at our talk guidelines.

Peace and festive love to you all and let's not get our baubles in a twist.

It's not even November yet.

RickOShay · 20/10/2017 23:00

Don’t we all do a mixture? A real tree and sprigs of holly can co-exist with crackers for the pets surely?

NoMapOfMyHead · 20/10/2017 23:00

I doubt you'll get picks on here over Grin Well I certainly don't have any!

I'm a snob as our christmas as we don't watch tv on christmas day.

Anonnamechangeranon · 20/10/2017 23:01

Who dragged MN towers in here?

On a Friday night?!

Tut tut

Anonnamechangeranon · 20/10/2017 23:03

RickOShay making the best point on the whole thread there 👏👏👏

JonSnowsWhore · 20/10/2017 23:04

Rick definitely the best of both worlds. I’ll be starting Elf on the shelf on 1sr December, but off to the Harrods Christmas grotto on the 12th, my bit of snobbery there Grin

randomer · 20/10/2017 23:07

It's a disgrace. Have you ever had the misfortune to see one of those adverts on channel 4. Starving children. Whether it's an elf or a harrods hamper it's a disgrace.

randomer · 20/10/2017 23:08

Crackers for pets

RickOShay · 20/10/2017 23:10

I know Grin
