This thread is for Christmas 'snobs'.
Proud to be one. 🎩🎅
So if you're not a fan of elf on the shelf or excessive mountains of tat this is where you can hang out and be safe from discussion of boots 3 for 2 gift sets.

I find it odd that some people have so little confidence in their own life choices that it matters what strangers say and do.

brasty · 20/10/2017 19:33

canofpeas Depends if they are serious. I thought most on here were simply having a laugh

ladymariner · 20/10/2017 19:33

(runs in, wearing lit-up elf hat that plays Christmas tunes when you press a button on the ears, waving a sprig of mistletoe)

I love lights, the more the merrier! I love sparkles, glitter, sparkles, tea lights, sparkles, presents under the tree, more gltter, red Lindt chocolate balls scoffed whilst necking Baileys and watching Muppet Christmas Carol, more sparkles, having people drop in, more sparkles....and wishing everyone, including you lot who would probably stick pins in your eyes rather than indulge in my sort of festive season, a fabulously sparkly, happy and peaceful Christmas 🎅 🎅 🎄 🎅 🎅 🎄✨✨✨ 🎄 🎅✨

(runs out again, chucking oats and gltter everywhere)

brasty · 20/10/2017 19:38

ladymariner If I bring a real tree, can I come?

JonSnowsWhore · 20/10/2017 19:38

Lady throw in some hot chocolate & I’m with you, but can we do it while wearing matching pyjamas Grin

AliPfefferman · 20/10/2017 19:39

Today 19:16 sandgrown

Anon I want your Christmas . It sounds fab smile

And now Anon can die happy.

The thing is, calling your own self a snob doesn't make it funny or self-deprecating when you're bragging about how much money you've spent/can spend. It's just all a bit try too hard. And I (quite happily) don't even celebrate Christmas.

AliPfefferman · 20/10/2017 19:45

I love that someone upthread is sneering at Yankee candles, not because she dislikes scented candles, but only because she prefers expensive scented candles. As if that's something to be proud of!

BuzzKillington · 20/10/2017 19:47

I am an inveterate snob - even more so around Christmas. I thank god my teens were born before the gruesome elf on the shelf bollocks took off.

Real tree, only glass decorations - when children were smaller, their school tat was hung from their own tree in the playroom so it didn't spoil my tasteful tree.

The tree goes up only a week before Christmas.

Cards are just too ghastly to display and totally ruin the look, so they get shoved in a drawer and then recycled.

I will admit to a christmas towel in the ds loo and christmas tea towels - so I am a bit naff.

2014newme · 20/10/2017 19:47

I've seen no bragging about money and some of these elf shelf Christmas cist thousands

ladymariner · 20/10/2017 19:47

Absolutely brasty and jon, the more the merrier, and we'll have loads of marshmalloiws on our hot chocolate whilst looking at all the lights and sparkles on the real tree 🎄 ✨ ☕🍸 ✨

Scabbersley · 20/10/2017 19:50

AnonEvent you missed out church on Christmas morning Shock

StubbleTurnips · 20/10/2017 19:50

I was called a snob for not take my DD to the panto at Christmas I may have also said I don't like the people that go too

She gets to go to the Halle Christmas Carol concert instead Grin

Scabbersley · 20/10/2017 19:51

Elf on the shelf makes me shudder.

Have we done holly (gathered from the bottom of the garden) on all the picture frames?

surferjet · 20/10/2017 19:52

I don’t think this is about money really. I know people who spend ££££ at Christmas but it’s all on tacky crap. You can be tasteful on a limited budget.

Scabbersley · 20/10/2017 19:54

I love this thread. I have found my people.

Even all the people moaning about it are making me Grin

brasty · 20/10/2017 19:56

I love going to the Nutcracker at Xmas, but no one else will go now as they moan they have been too many times. Heathens

2014newme · 20/10/2017 19:56

Kirsty allsopp takes 3 days to do her tree and refuses to let the kids help
😂😂😂
I just rearrange ours when the children are asleep

OP posts:
brasty · 20/10/2017 19:57

I do ours in a few hours.Any more and I get bored.

Scabbersley · 20/10/2017 19:59

Find decorating the tree utterly boring. Am happy to let the dcs do it.

NoMapOfMyHead · 20/10/2017 20:10

As surfer saya. There is alot of money being spent each christmas on crappy plastic tat. Alot of which can't be afforded.

Looking at the stash posts you often see on here for their dcs, I could easily spend the same amount as another person who buys 100 tat pressies, and I'll have 3 or 4 things to show for it in comparison.

brasty · 20/10/2017 20:11

But kids love tat

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 20/10/2017 20:16

Well I want to move to the village that
Crumbs lives in

Scabbersley · 20/10/2017 20:19

Thank god mine are old enough to have outgrown plastic tat.

I'm also snobby about people who get very stuck in to the booze on Xmas morning.

Dozer · 20/10/2017 20:24

A posh schoolfriend’s parents always had few decorations but amazing naice food and drink treats around christmas: posh chocs, desert wine and champagne (everyone else had leibfraumilch), cheeses, real butter, tarts.

As teens we’d all descend on them and scoff whatever was going. Good times!

BroomstickOfLove · 20/10/2017 20:25

I love a bit of Christmas snobbery from other people, even if I don't practise it myself. The poncetastic thread is all about crafts rather than restrained and slightly snobbish good taste these days, and it's just not the same.
