It starts today! Who's joining me in getting the house in shape while getting g the Christmas stuff sorted?

I'm having a clear out of DS's toys and all his old clothes and things in preparation! Plus going through my Christmas boxes to check wrapping paper and cards, as I always end up buying more when I have some from the year before!

Snausage · 03/09/2017 20:59

Yes! I am not hosting at home this year, but I find it a great excuse to sort my life out. I work full time and will be away on a training course for two weeks (last week in November and first week in December) so, despite only having a 2 bedroom flat, I will need all the time between now and Christmas to sort myself out. I'm planning on hosting a couple of Christmassy evenings for friends and neighbours, but also don't want to come back to a shit tip and have nowhere to put the mound of gifts that DS will no doubt have bestowed upon him!

I printed off the first week's sheet last night! DD absolutely loves Christmas so the earlier I start on the prep the better for both of us!

Ninjakittysmells · 03/09/2017 21:04

OMG I've never heard of this and I love it already! Off to look at the link in more detail, but yes! I'm in!

Puffpaw · 03/09/2017 21:15

Just what I was looking for, thanks op.

1stTimeMama · 03/09/2017 21:21

I'm in! 4 young children, husband away for a few months, new puppy...I'm going to need all the help I can get!

Wondermoomin · 03/09/2017 21:26

I'm in! So this week is paperwork... my office is a MESS! Going to take a deep breath and get stuck in... Smile

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 03/09/2017 21:52

I'm hosting both my parents and my inlaws this year so this is perfect.

Already working on sorting through ds's toys/books/clothes with a view to selling a load at a local nearly new sale to make space for all his new stuff.

Mallowmarshmallow · 03/09/2017 22:13

I'd like to follow this.

Do you know if there is a way to get email reminders? I'm sure there used to be but I can't see anything on the website although I don't find it all that easy to navigate anyway.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/09/2017 22:26

DH painted the sitting room bit (we have an 'L' shaped room-dining room-kitchen) replaced the manky old sideboard with a sleek TV stand and was very Hmm and Confused (not even Xmas Hmm or Xmas Confused ) when I earmarked space for the Christmas Tree !

So that room is done
I'm planning the Winter Bedding which morphs into Christmas Bedding with an added fleece
I have tidied the Christmas Cupboard (crockery stuff) and donated my ivy patterned dinnerset to BHF charity shop (I didn't use it for years)

Need to sort out my wardrobe this week, get out the Summer clothes and ease in the A/W (and buy jumpers ) Xmas Grin

Liz79 · 03/09/2017 22:50

Heee heeee love it. However we're approaching the end stages of a double storey extension at the moment. My new utility is a temporary kitchen, my lounge has the fridge and boxes of stuff, mostly shoes and we have a shipping container full of more stuff. Wish me luck ConfusedConfused

Liz79 · 03/09/2017 22:51

Ps how do you do the Santa hats and what are you supposed to do each week. E.g. paper work this week. What should I be doing?

CotswoldStrife · 04/09/2017 07:47

Email link on this page if you scroll down, it's a box on the right on my laptop

christmas.organizedhome.com/house-holidays-plan

There is also a link to Week 1 on the top left of that page, as well as links to Twitter and FB.

BroomstickOfLove · 04/09/2017 15:52

There's a Facebook group now.

Santa hats are like this:

Grin is [ grin ] without spaces. Xmas Grin is [ fgrin ] without spaces.

My brain isn't wired to follow a plan so once I know it's paperwork week, I just become allergic to touching paper of any kind Hmm
is it ok to just post my random muddled efforts or do I have to slink off and start a disorganised Christmas thread ?

I'm tackling or trying to the kids disaster zonesrooms and playroom and hoping to instil a long overdue sense of routine and responsibility into my offspring, and maybe make a bit of space for the onslaught of new toys in December.

BroomstickOfLove · 04/09/2017 18:14

I quite like the idea of an organised/disorganised Christmas thread, because most of us will probably end up in the disorganised side in the end.

Annwithnoe · 06/09/2017 14:20

In the spirit of the thread I made a neat pile of the paperwork I need to file which I have shoved in a drawer to deal with later sometime but I did shred a load of stuff.
I'm trying to build up the courage to tackle the kids art pile

BroomstickOfLove · 06/09/2017 17:33

I have cleared the Desk of Doom, set up a household organisation file, ordered storage boxes from Argos for each person to put their bags/keys/water bottles etc in ready for the next day, and made a list of stuff I need to get

Tomorrow I will tackle the filing system and make it all make sense. And write myself a reminder on my calendar about renewing passports.

OP posts:
BroomstickOfLove · 06/09/2017 17:35

I also ordered a cheap and apparently rather flimsy wrapping paper organiser. I am quite excited about that.

Now that me and ds are finally home from hospital I managed to sort through all the Christmas stuff I keep in our wardrobes - Christmas bedding, clothing (I have 9 jumpers, 2 teeshirts and 2 dresses!), some decs etc. I also found all the stuff I'd bought for last christmas/new year which we didn't get round to using as ds was poorly (festive face mats, games, fishbowl).

I also started making lists of stuff I've already bought (all online shopping while in hospital with ds, drove my mum and dad mad as I had everything delivered there lol!) and started jotting down ideas to buy.

Bit of a break now as dd1 is 16 in 17 sleeps and dd2 is 13 in 30 sleeps.

WutheringTights · 07/09/2017 13:19

I'm a week ahead. I wanted a week in hand as I know I've got a few busy weeks ahead and didn't want to end up really behind and become disheartened (and I had a lovely new notebook to use and wanted to get cracking on setting it upSmile). I'm nearly finished sorting out the craft stuff and have made lots of lists. I Love Christmas prep!

BroomstickOfLove · 07/09/2017 13:22

I've just bought some filing and organisational stuff, and am just about to head off to the tip.
