Token gift for newborn

OK so my niece and DS are due very close to each other (I won't be surprised if they're born on the same day), and will be newborns at Christmas.

I have an older son and an older niece (who incidentally were due 2 days apart, argh!) so it's not like I don't know that newborns are just lumps who eat and sleep. But I'd like to get both new babies SOMETHING for xmas.

Any ideas gratefully appreciated!

Xmas socks/clothes in age 12 months. So they can wear in December next year. No point in Xmas things for the his year given on the day as most(?) people don't wear the Xmas stuff for long after the day itself.

Fabric baby books? Black and white is best as babies respond to these early on, this Wee Gallery book is lovely www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/d6475.html

Ah yes!! Thanks for these ideas! I actually thought of Lamaze after I posted. And other ideas great too. There seems to be not enough room in my brain at the moment Grin

I'll buy niece a gift when she's born too so good to have multiple options, thanks!

Maybe a nice festive book/ story that they can keep for future years? When it was my DS' first Christmas we got him a version of The Night Before Christmas where we had to record our voices reading the text on each page. He's 5 now and loves getting the book out every Christmas as he knows it was from when he was a baby

BendydickCuminsnatch · 24/08/2017 20:54

Oh that's a lovely idea Ruby!

How sweet that all the babies have been/will be born at such similar times! You will have a very special Xmas this year I'm sure Grin

A pudding spoon for the Cutlery Commission with XXX's Christmas Spoon engraved. For all of the children.

My children and their cousins all have spoons and love using them at Christmas each year Grin

A Christmas decoration or something else personalised always makes for a nice keepsake.

Notso · 24/08/2017 21:10

DC3 was due on 23rd December and for the benefit of DC1 and DC2 we got him the Lamaze moose, a couple of 'that's not my ... books' and a Christmas babygro all in a personalised stocking. Just as well as arrived on the 8th December!

IggyAce · 24/08/2017 21:11

A Christmas bauble. Mama's and papa's do a beautiful glass one each year with born in xxxx on it.

stiffstink · 24/08/2017 21:14

I always go for Robert Sabuda's pop up version of The Night Before Christmas. It's beautiful.

whyareusernamessodifficult · 24/08/2017 21:22

I bought a couple of Disney Christmas tree decorations for my nephew's first Christmas when he was a newborn and buy him another one every year as a sort of Christmas tradition.

BrieAndChilli · 24/08/2017 21:24

Snow globe
Xmas tree decoration

We have a little set of advent books that hang on a tree which would be a nice gift. Will see if I can find a link

MrsGB2225 · 28/08/2017 14:13

So far I've got for my newborn;

Lamaz toy
Wrist rattles
Soft book
Christmas outfit
Snowglobe

It's more for my older son than anything so he doesn't see the baby with an empty stocking.

Hollyhop17 · 28/08/2017 16:26

@lostmyrubyslippers can you tell me where you recorded the book?! I would love to do this for my baby this year!

mylaptopismylapdog · 28/08/2017 16:34

Sophie the giraffe teether cute and useful.

AGrinWithoutACat · 28/08/2017 16:54

For girls I always suggest a charm bracelet which can be added to each year if you wish as they grow and interests develop?

A stocking with useful things to cover the next 6 months?, first toothbrush, water beaker for age 6 months, baby grows in 3-6 month sizing, teething rattle, bath toys, books, soft ball, etc

I do shoeboxes each year for a local charity for the 0-12month age group and use things like that which appear to be well received?

Any baby toy, Tomy Eggs, a soft ball, bath toys, vtech crawl ball or a shape sorter.

They will need toys before next Christmas, esp if they are first babies and don't have a load of hand-me downs.

MrEBear · 03/09/2017 06:21

I've just re-read your initial post. It's your baby is one of the babies and they have older sibling.
Makes it more complicated.
I was in the same boat last year Santa needed to deliver to avoid older sibling asking "Why did Santa forget the Baby". Initially I was just going to do the stocking but decided it needed something under the tree.

Baby got a baby gym (only because it looked better than the hand me down), cuddly toy, Sophie the Giraffe, new baby grow and a couple of books. In the stocking was socks, dummies, a comforter. An lamaze toy from a friend, clothes a toy and books from other family and money.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 03/09/2017 06:49

Yes both new babies have 2 year old siblings :)

Lots of good ideas MrE, we had the tomy eggs but I got rid so might re-buy! :)
