What are your must have vegetables with Christmas dinner?

OP posts:
DameXanaduBramble · 20/12/2016 11:00

Sprouts
Carrots
Roast potatoes
Peas

That's it. Don't like to over complicate. I used to make cauli cheese but I find less is more.

DameXanaduBramble · 20/12/2016 11:01

How did I forget parsnips!

Randytortoise · 20/12/2016 11:01

We normally have carrots, sprouts and parsnips. But I only like carrots so looking for more inspiration as to what to add.

Sprouts with bacon lard ons
Broccoli and cauliflower
Roast and mashed potato
Peas and sweetcorn
Parsnips and carrots

Thai is what mum serves. Personally I think it's too much and I'd have roast pots, Parsnips, Sprouts and Broccoli.

Ooh parsnips definitely, and sprouts even though they're detestable

I'm doing carrots too, which I hate. You've made me think I need to rework my menu, OP!

MelanieCheeks · 20/12/2016 18:01

Roast parsnips
Sprouts done with chestnuts and bacon lardons and a dash of Madeira.

BroomstickOfLove · 20/12/2016 18:02

Roast potatoes.
Sprouts with bacon and white wine.
Carrot and swede mash
Roast parsnips.

I might do celeriac dauphinois, but if I do, it will be an unexpected extra.

BroomstickOfLove · 20/12/2016 18:03

We all really like sprouts, though, and eat lunch ads. If the sprouts are basically just a garnish for the meal, then probably adding peas or broccoli makes more sense.

Randytortoise · 20/12/2016 18:04

I forgot the sprouts!

Mummyreindeerlegz · 20/12/2016 18:05

Roast potatoes and parsnips
Mashed potato for the fussy toddler
Carrots
Broccoli
Sprouts
Red cabbage (braised the delia way)

YouCanShoveYourOtherGranny · 20/12/2016 18:06

Roast potatoes (have been known to also do some mash on the side)
Carrots, roasted with brown sugar and olive oil.
Asparagus room temp with lemon juice and shaved parmesan
Roasted half onions in their jackets, caramelized.
Sprouts, roasted with dried cranberries. More sprouts.
Mushrooms.

Sometimes a mix of peppers cooked slowly.

Yummy. I don't do the meat bits and this more than enough to make for a delectable plate.

Now I want parsnips Angry
