doing the potatoes.

has had it in a bowl of ice water all afternoon.

has had nurofen.

any other recommendations other than casualty?

he has a huge blister and it is a burn on the outside of the finger on the last knuckle and up to the nail (and under it a bit)

bandage it? I've found in the past that keeping burns covered stops the pain. sounds nasty though, perhaps a trip to casualty might be adviseable, if you could cope with the four hour wait

Katymac · 25/12/2006 19:39

Lavender oil - soak it

It's best straight after the burn - but it should help

HelloMama · 25/12/2006 19:41

no dont bandage it as it will stick and be agony... wrap it in cling film (using the inside bot of the cling film to cover the wounds as it will be sterile) and take him to A&E just to get it checked. Is it very painful? Pain tends to be a good sign with burns.

wickedwinterwitch · 25/12/2006 19:43

No advice but oh no, must be awful, poor dh.

if its bigger than a ten pence piece then go to a+e

mumofmonstersNotActuallyHere · 25/12/2006 20:00

wrap in cling film and he needs togo to a and e, like misdee says if its bigger than a 10p it needs to be checkedout, risk of infection and all that

DingDongDraculaOnHigh · 25/12/2006 20:25

OH NO

put loads of savlon on and wrap in gauze

hold hand above head

Poor DH pls send him our love xxxx

Ceolas · 25/12/2006 21:17

A&E def if it's that bad.

MerlinsBeard · 26/12/2006 20:21

how is his finger today?

sleepysooz · 26/12/2006 21:48

your poor DH, my DD 3yo touched the iron (whilst I was ironing) christmas friday 22nd spent 2 hours with hand in cold water, blistered and christmas day night the blisters started to pop, put savlon on and ok today, but very sore!

Thought she wouldn't do it again, but the next morning she stated to me that my iron wasn't hot anymore, iron now on top of wardrobe, only used when she is in bed! lesson learnt on my behalf! not on hers though!

DimpledThighs · 26/12/2006 21:56

goose fat gets so very hot - why it is recommended. I hope he manages to get something for it - poor him, poor you.

the blister is enormous.

he is being all heroic about it, but i catch him wincing and holding his hand above his head when i'm not looking.

he currently has a 'dressing' on it which is an eye make up remover pad of cotton wool with three disney plasters on it. very unprofessional.

tomorrow i'm going to frogmarch him to a chemist

he refuses to put anything on it (i think it hurts too much for him to contemplate)

OP posts:
misdee · 27/12/2006 00:23

well get that cotton pad off his finger now, it will stick to the burn,. if he wants to protect then use clingfilm. you can get special burns plaster things at the chemist.

idontlikecrusts · 27/12/2006 01:20

I burnt my finger on an indoor firework, very deep but no pain.

I kept it uncovered and dry and it got better after about a week.

Pain is a good isgn but cling film will deal with that as suggested.

BexieID · 27/12/2006 14:22

My Fiance did something similar 2 weeks ago with the water from the steamer. I got him the Savlon fluid stuff and the spray. he soaked a banadage in the Savlan and had his had wrapped in it overnight. The spray made his hand all orange. It's healing up ok.

Fiance went and saw our local pharmasist and said they were really unhelpfull. They also wouldn't give him any burn ease stuff.

PinkTinsel · 27/12/2006 23:52

honey. souns daft but it works wonders. smear it all over the burned area and leave it a while

HarkTheAEROdAngelsSing · 27/12/2006 23:52

A burns dressing contains a cooling gel and stays in place fro several days while the skin underneath heals. This is what they put on my sister a couple of years ago when she managed to burn her forehead with boiling soup on Xmas Eve (sounds daft, I realise, but she knocked the liquidiser on by mistake before she had the lid on, hence soup made it to forehead)! She mistakenly wiped it with kitchen towel which took the skin off with it, so casualty it was because of the risk of infection. They put the dressing on and told her she'd done the right thing by coming.

Heathcliffscathy · 28/12/2006 18:31

pinktinsel...what should he smear on????

ds burst the blister by jumping on his finger today

also now he is saying he is not allowed to talk about it as i think he is a hypochondriac (i had a go at him for not going to the dr's even though it obviously still hurts a lot)

can you get to the chemist? I got a special burns plaster from there last time I burnt myself.

Tbh, his burn sounds really quite nasty and prob does need to be looked at by the doc especially if it is still painful now.
