Just wondering what everyone is planning on getting their DDs for Christmas? The only thing mine has asked for is a 'polar express' bell! Already got one sorted, but I can't just get her that can I?? I'm torn between not wanting to spend lots of money on something big just for the sake of it, and feeling tight that she'll only have a small pile of presents! We'll obviously get her a selection of small bits and bobs to go with it!

Also we now have DS (6mo) who doesn't care about presents, but we're going to have to get him something as I reckon DD will be sad if Santa has forgotten him. Would it be terrible to wrap up some nappies and cartons of milk (as this are the things he needs!) he already has LOADS of toys/books/walker/bouncer/clothes etc. I'm really not a fan of pointlessly spending money!

No one getting their children anything???

so far my 3 yr old DS is getting....

• a Spinyos set with some accessories (Fischer Price)
• a playmobil bus
• a play food baking set that l you can pop the cookies out of the fake dough (I can't remember the brand)
• a Flip and Tip Fred garbage truck by WOW
• a costume dragon cape
• a stuffed animal (a puppy)

• is sharing a magnatile set and that Pie Face game with his big brother

Mine only really get things at xmas so I like to get enough to last us thru the year. her 3rd bday was rencely and a huge hit has been the argos - zoo play dough set, 30 - 15 on sale.

its brilliant has so much stuff in it.

for xmas we have got lucy the dog, more play diugh, lego duplo, loads of sticker books.

She already has a dolls house, scooter etc. Thinking bike for birthday as it'll be June so more chance to ride it! Could get her a marble run- Dnephew has one that she's quite fond of

My dd is three and a half. I've got her a My Little Pony; a Princess Palace Pet; some fake Lego (Wilkos); dolls' house accessories; a Moshi Monster play set. Oh, and some books, and a My Little Pony DVD.

My DD is almost 3.5yo. We've bought her the Sylvanian Family bluebell car and rabbit family, and a mermaid blanket. My parents are getting her a dressing gown and slippers and my in-laws are getting her an art and craft bucket and something else.

In her stocking she's got a chunky hama bead set, a book, ear muffs, streamers for her bike, a My Little Pony toy, some hot chocolate powder, sweets, bubble bath, pants and a snap card game.

For your DS, I'd just get things you'd get anyway. I remember getting things like a Plum pouch, dummies, carton of milk, bubble bath, sponge etc.

For my son's 3rd Christmas he got a toy kitchen, just the plastic one from Sainsburys half price sale, was an impulse buy but he loved it.

My youngest son was 2 weeks old on his first Christmas and we had to get something as the older one would question it if not, we got him a cuddly sensory elephant toy and put a book in his stocking I think.

Mine is getting a kitchen from us and lots of accessories from grandparents to go with it.

Not yet born ds will be getting some very random items dd has chosen for him from the charity shop!

My 3yr old dd is getting a train set.

DD will be just 3 and will be getting (so far):

from us - a mix of different small/inexpensive things, mostly from Tiger or the ELC sale: an inflatable globe (£3), a couple of Ikea and Tiger soft toys (£3 and £4), play-doh (on offer at ELC), a play baking kit (£6), musical instruments (harmonica, tambourine, sleigh bells, abut £3-4 each), some books (cheap from The Book People!), a dress (Gap sale, £10), a tutu skirt, and a magic wand from Tesco (£1.75)

from Father Christmas - her stocking and a micro mini scooter

from my parents - an easel and some painting and drawing things

from my sisters - some Octonauts play figures and some Sarah & Duck pyjamas

from her other granny - oops, must intervene there as I've not requested anything yet and MIL has form for getting odd/non-age-appropriate stuff....!

I'm wondering about whether we should get anything else for DD, but her birthday is around Xmas and we'll need to think of something for that - I thought maybe a doll's house. I try not to buy expensive stuff from us and just get one present from Father Christmas that's a reasonably big ticket item - last year he brought a train set which has been a great hit.

Also got a (soon to be) three year old girl here, and a six month old.
DD1 is having:
A Lalaloopsy Color Me doll, which is the only thing she's requested
Elsa and Anna soft dolls

Some My Little Pony figures I found cheap in TK Maxx
Pyjamas
A Doc McStuffins hairband
And some plastic nonsense in her stocking.

DD2 is having pyjamas (chosen by big sister), a wooden sign for her bedroom door to match the one DD1 has, and a vtech Smart Cub. DD1 still plays with her leapfrog My Pal Violet, so I think the Smart Cub is a decent investment. I couldn't find My Pal Violet/Scout when I went shopping.

My dd2 will be 2.11 at christmas and will be getting:

Sylvanian bunny family
Dollshouse (to share with her sister)
Lego tangled tower
Lots of books

And an animator Anna doll

Stuck for xmas but DD has just had her birthday so might provide some ideas. She got:
Duplo creative cakes
A doctors kit (loves this!)

Peppa and Tinkerbell sticker books
Some clothes
An art set

I wouldn't worry about getting her a 'big' thing if theres nothing she needs. She''ll be just as happy and excited getting selection of smaller presents. I think its a food idea to give your baby something for yiur dds sake, but agree theres no point buying stuff he doesn't need specially. Are there any old baby toys/clothes etc. your dd won't remember that you could wrap? Also nice idea to get dd a present from the baby.

waiting can you recomend any of those sticker books please ( tinker and peppa)

Tinkerbell sparkly sticker dress up book and Peppa dress up sticker book have been very well received- lots of stickers and not lots of activities that she can't do yet

for first Christmases, mine have had a special teddy or a nice book.

Mine is getting a doll and matching little cot "from" DC2 who is due early December. That will be her main present and we have a little Olaf rucksack, colouring/sticker set, doodle pad and pj's/socks etc for her to unwrap at Christmas - just lots of little things. Other things on her list that grandparents and aunts/uncle's may get are a Mr Potato head fun tub, a wooden train set, some cooking bits and an apron, crafty stuff, elefun or Orchard toys games, magnetic numbers for the fridge to go with the letters, and clothes (seems a lot but I made the list to double up for her 3rd birthday ideas as that's in January - I really need to plan my pregnancies better!) You could always keep some of your budget back and get her something else later in the year? DD also loves her micro scooter if you haven't got one of those. Also Duplo.

What about wrapping up some healthy snacks for your little one - like the organix ones that start from 6months.
Maybe a new flannel and bowl and spoon too

I have a dd1 who's just turned 3 and a dd2 who will be nearly 7 months come Christmas.

From us dd1 has:
Dolls house as her 'main' present - the £35 one from Asda, seems to have good reviews, my plan is to build it beforehand and wallpaper and carpet/floor the inside as it does look a little plain - looked it up online and it should be quite easy to do. Also hoping to get the furniture set from Asda, but it's not in stock at the moment.

From my mum she's got the ELC wooden car garage - it was 60% off when she bought it but I think it's half price atm

From my nan she's got a motorised cartried to convince her to buy a cosy coupe instead but it was half price and she wasn't having any of it.

Dd2's things were picked up in the sales otherwise we wouldn't have bought them.

For dd1's birthday in October we got her a tablet which she adores, wooden accessories for her kitchen, a 4 in 1 Orchard Games set and a sea creature themed jigsaw puzzle.

I often wonder what I'm going to get them next year, especially dd2 as we have kept a lot of things dd1 used to play with. But I'm sure there'll be something.

Ah snacks are a good idea thanks! Unfortunately I don't think there's much I can wrap from the cupboards that she hasn't already seen- she's a always in her brothers room emptying things all over the floor!! She keeps mentioning an easel so I think I'll get the IKEA one with some whiteboard pens. I just hate the commercialisation of big presents! You're right, she won't miss one. I just feel like everyone else is doing that, so we should too!!

Personally I think you're being really sensible. Far better to out some money in a savings account for her, or towards a big present like a bike for her birthday as you've already said. I totally agree there's no point in buying for the sake of it. It's not as if you're not getting her anything at all.

My son is five, and loves all the excitement of Christmas. He talks about it all year! He hasn't a clue what he wants though. So far he's asked for a candy cane, and that's all. Obviously we are buying him presents, but somehow it's the whole magic of the day that matters rather that the number and size of presents. No need to go overboard.

And fwiw, when we have bought him a 'big' present, it's often been overlooked in favour of a much smaller, cheaper present.
