We have PIL, BIL and SIL coming over on Christmas Eve and staying for Christmas day. We need to serve dinner. Thinking about spaghetti bolognese with lots of salad or lasagne with lots of salad.

Or should I change my mind?

I want something easy.

What are you going to serve to your family/guests on Christmas Eve?

I'm in Scotland too and steak pie is traditionally for New Year for us! Normally T bone steak for Christmas Eve but dad bought fillet by mistake Smile

Ginger glazed ham with a tomatoey sauce and baked potatoes
Then the ham (cold) will be our boxing day ham (a'la Nigella's Christmas)

1st year we have done it,hope it will become a tradition(bliss,no cooking!!)
Today we are going for a festive afternoon tea in hotel overlooking the stormy atlantic, should be fun!

Is it bad that I saw this thread and thought, great, I can't remember what I've planned for that I'll just check my post? Blush

Used to be pizza express or the local Chinese. But no idea for tomorrow. Last year we had lasagne but the kids have said no way this year.

FourAndDone · 23/12/2013 20:37

We're having posh parsnip soup and fresh bread for lunch, and then fish and chips from the chippy for tea, so no washing up.

We cook a feast on Christmas Day, so I want to ease myself into it!

Twighlightsparkle · 23/12/2013 21:14

Prawn cocktail, salad , bread and butter, oh and homemade chips.

HavantGuard · 23/12/2013 23:37

No FourAndDone I haven't. I think that's the problem Xmas Grin

Confitdecanard · 23/12/2013 23:55

We always roast the ham on Christmas Eve and eat it with cauliflower cheese and mashed potato.

Chocberry · 24/12/2013 00:24

Chinese here too!

TheRealAmandaClarke · 24/12/2013 00:40

My ham is only 1.5 kg. That was the biggest one in m&s Xmas Grin
Nigella reckons on using a 5.5 kg ham.
Really?
Do I just reduce the boiling time?
