Octonauts toys - advice please

My DS loves Octonauts. He's already got Gup A and Gup B and all the figures but would like to get him something else this year. The reviews seem mixed for the other Gups and the Octopod and the Deep Sea Octo-Lab so is there any advice from anyone who's DCs have got them?

DS has the whole collection I think lol Octopod and Gup X are the ones he plays with most...Deep Sea Lab is pretty crap, as is the Octo Max Suit ..

CloserLook · 19/11/2013 22:07

Thanks, that was my instinct on the Deep Sea Lab. I'd forgotten about the Gup X. That's a possibility.

gup x and octopod are a must i think. both are often on offer! think the octopod is £20 in sainsburys atm

bananananacoconuts · 19/11/2013 22:15

We also have the full collection. Ds plays most with the Gup X and he has a build your own Gup F (i think!) that he enjoys playing with. We simply HAD to have the Octolab and it's always set up when we have the Octonauts out, just not played with very often

Piffpaffpoff · 19/11/2013 22:17

Oh poo, I've just bought the Deep Sea Lab for DDSad. At least it was half price Grin. She absolutely loves her Octopod and also all the individual figures that come with some creatures.

MOSagain · 19/11/2013 22:18

Ds loves octonauts and keeps asking for deep sea lab. Why is it crap?

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 19/11/2013 22:18

I would say go for the other gups
The gup x is cool but ds likes playing with them in the bath and I don't think he can with it (I don't let him anyway)

krisskross · 19/11/2013 22:21

IMO the octopod is pretty crap.....though I paid 35 pounds for it maybe I'd feel more positive if it had been cheaper! They liked it for a little while.

Bagofapples · 19/11/2013 22:23

All the GUPs are worth getting IMO, they are good fun in the bath and paddling pools in the summer. Plus, they are easy to store and take out to friend's houses. I agree that the GUP F is really good because you can build so many different versions.

I'm not convinced the Octopod is worth going for, it seems a bit limited; but DS has asked for the Octolab for Christmas. I believe ASDA has it on offer at the moment.

The cuddly toy characters are a nice addition to a collection too.

We are big fans here!

CloserLook · 19/11/2013 22:23

Thanks for everyone's advice so far. I think I'm leaning towards the Gup X. Luckily DS doesn't play with them in the bath (not the gups anyway, just one of his Captain Barnacles figures) so hopefully that won't be a problem!

You should definitely play with them in the bath! Endless possibilities!

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 19/11/2013 22:27

Do others use the gup x in the bath?

bluebump · 19/11/2013 22:31

We don't use the gup x in the bath, but all the others we do.

Mum2Fergus · 19/11/2013 22:34

GupX splits into 3, the bit that has batteries in cant go into water obviously Smile

The Lab appears to do lots (activated using the air pump) but its a bit of a poor show really. The Pod has the bit in top that can be attached to waistbands (and DS uses it as his 'radio' too) and the trapdoor/slide bit...but it's much better at encouraging his imagination for some reason ...

CloserLook · 19/11/2013 22:41

Will encourage DS to play with his gups in the bath tomorrow!

My ds has the whole collection too. He's never bothered with the octopod but loves the octolab and the octo maxi suit.
Gup x gets a lot a play as do the gups he can take in the bath.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 20/11/2013 15:19

I think sainsburys is discounting octopod toys in early December.

milk · 20/11/2013 15:23

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer How do you know this?

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 20/11/2013 15:24

I might be wrong, but I think I saw an advert in a magazine. Possibly sainsburys magazine.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 20/11/2013 15:24

I'm going to see if I can find it or if I'm imagining it.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 20/11/2013 15:28

25% off in selected sainsburys stores from 5th-24th December

The ad shows the character assortment, squirted assortment, deep sea rover assortment, GUP-F and on-the-go pods.

milk · 20/11/2013 15:36

Thank you :)

roslet · 20/11/2013 16:58

We have everything too, I would have much much nicer clothes if it wasn't for toy shopping! Gup x is probably the best single thing (just asked DS aged 5 to confirm), but it's still fun to have the octolab and octopod. The octopod has more going on and is a better toy, but features only in a few episodes. All frequently cost less than £20 each on Amazon.

roslet · 20/11/2013 17:02

Meant to say the octolab has more to do and we prefer it to the octopod. Too many octos cause me confusion, sorry!

Beccawoo · 21/11/2013 21:38

Keep an eye on Amazon as they tend to price match sainsburys.
