Or putting any decorations out?

In my heart, I want to do it now Wink

I get bits and bobs out with the advent calendars.
We used to get everything up on around the 16th as we always had the tree up for my birthday a couple of days later when I was little. Now we have DS2 who is 3 a few days before me we will get them up for his birthday. It does mean the tree looks a bit tired by NYE though.

peaz · 05/11/2013 09:30

DS2 turns 2 on December 1st but for various reasons we are having his party the following weekend, so we've decided to do a mini birthday celebration early that day and then the boys will put it up later (and when DH is giving them a bath I will redo it)

FarOverTheRainbow · 05/11/2013 09:31

1st dec Smile

phantomhairpuller · 05/11/2013 09:33

People who put them up before December make me ragey! But each to their own of course Wink

Ours will go up somewhere around the 15th Dec I reckon. Though an overexcited toddler and a crawling 7 month old could make it interesting this year! Wink

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/11/2013 09:39

Usually about a fortnight before Christmas, but we do get out Christmas mugs and a few other bits on 1st December. It usually all stays up until 12th night as we are too lazy to take it down before then. We've acquired two cats recently, will have to see how they get on with the Christmas tree (we tie the top to a high shelf behind it anyway, habit from when the DCs were toddlers). Might be leaving the glass baubles in their boxes this year.

WhispersOfWickedness · 05/11/2013 09:48

I used to put them up on 1st December. But DC1 was due on 25th November and I agreed with DH that I would do it after his birthday in the future, so they were separate celebrations. The little bugger was then two weeks late Hmm So now they go up the day after, on 10th December Grin

WhispersOfWickedness · 05/11/2013 09:49

Oh, I take them down on New Year's Eve, I like a fresh start in January Smile

sparklysilversequins · 05/11/2013 10:01

First of December. I may even wait up and do it at 00.01 am on that day so I get an extra 8 hours out of them.

ZombieBelle · 05/11/2013 10:05

Usually on the 1st but I'm doing a craft fair that day this year so no idea really. They get taken down on the 27th as I like to get the house back to normal for new years

kay1975 · 05/11/2013 10:19

21/22nd Nov, can't wait!

GobbolinoCat · 05/11/2013 10:19

I never get the timing right to putting them up. Too soon and its over kill.
Too late though and not enough excitement and build up.

Gonna try the weekend before DD breaks up from school, if I can hold off that long. Usually keen them up for as long as I want after, sometimes till Feb Shock,I find January really gloomy and grey and think its horrific to suddenly strip house for it....I like a more gentle approach.

However this year they will come down earlier too as have visitors.

Guadalupe · 05/11/2013 10:23

About a week before Christmas usually.

CiderwithBuda · 05/11/2013 10:47

I don't like them up too early tbh. So mid December here. We get a real tree so if it goes up too early it will be bald by Xmas potentially. Last year we had issues with needles dropping.

Although I will be making an Advent calendar wreath so that will be out and I like the idea of th outside lights going up then too. We used to live in Hungary and tradition there is that St Miklaus comes on 5 December and leaves sweets in DCS shoes (sticks if they have been naughty!) and lots of people out their window and outside lights up for that.

CoolItKittens · 05/11/2013 10:47

Think it'll probably be the 14th of December. But if DC pester enough it might be the 1st! Too early, I don't need over a month of pulling the cats out of the tree

Longdistance · 05/11/2013 10:50

When my tree arrives in port from Western Australia...

God knows when???

crazykat · 05/11/2013 11:00

1st of December ours go up. DDs birthday is 13th December and she loves that she has lots of decorations up.

QuenellefireAndDamnation · 05/11/2013 13:54

We're still in negotiations about this. I like to put them up the weekend before and keep them until twelfth night. DH always wants to put them up two weeks earlier and take them down on the 27th.

We usually compromise on up the weekend before the weekend before and down January 1st. But this year DH doesn't go back to work until the 7th so he may agree to keep them up until the 6th, and put them up later. We have a real tree so it can't go up too soon or it'll be bald by the big day.

But we're still in talks about talks at the moment. We'll have a summit at the end of November and decide then. Christmas is a very serious political business in our household Grin

Marne · 05/11/2013 15:48

I usually put ours up on the 1st but this year we are having a real tree so won't be putting them up as early or the tree might not last, though I guess I could put up the other decorations and leave the tree until the week before Christmas?

nicename · 05/11/2013 15:53

We have got bog all space for a tree. Any suggestions?

When I was little we used to have a ten footer in the parlour. siggggghhhhh. I want a tree! I want a tree! I WANT A TREEEEE!

blibblibs · 05/11/2013 16:05

I have a beautiful 7 ft fake norweigan fir replica in my teeny tiny house nicename it lives in front of the front door and takes up all the space from the front door to the sofa Grin there is no such things as no space. I would put it in the middle of the room if there was such issue in my house :)

exexpat · 05/11/2013 16:22

Tree and decorations go up one week before Christmas, come down no later than 12th night. Much more festive-feeling if they are up for a limited time, I think.

MirandaWest · 05/11/2013 16:22

Possibly weekend with about 7th December in it (need to check calendar for when that is). Or sometime in the last week of school. They stay up until twelfth night as I like them being there :)

TeaOneSugar · 05/11/2013 16:26

Probably second weekend in December, they might make it till twelfth night this year, as it's a Sunday and school doesn't start back till the Monday 6th Jan.
