Usually 21st / 22nd Dec. Comes down on New Years day as I get fed up with it hogging space.

MamaBear17 · 18/10/2013 13:39

We also have a real tree. We have it up for a month. It comes down on the 2nd of January, the most depressing day of the year imo!

At Christmas?

Mrspebble · 18/10/2013 13:48

I don't put on up.. Just fairy light etc.. Might this year though as have a baby now. But not until 12 days before christmas.

First weekend in December, but it comes down the day after Boxing Day as I'm sick of it by then!

fishybits · 18/10/2013 13:59

Christmas Eve, 'tis the Twelve Days of Christmas after all.

Twitterqueen · 18/10/2013 14:07

I love that so many people are saying 1st December! I've always been considered odd for doing it so early (always the 1st weekend in Dec). But I love Christmas (even though I'm knocking on a bit) and I love the tree - always a real one. I don't care if it's dropping needles and desperate by 6th night - I love coming down the stairs in the dark mornings and switching on the lights....

I sort of feel like it's all about the build up to Christmas, post Boxing Day I'm ready for it all to be over :)

Christmas eve, it's a family(and visiting friends) event, we do it over the afternoon, followed by a lovely meal, the presents go under it after all children have gone to bed, so it a lovely surprise in the morning.

Elsiequadrille · 18/10/2013 14:19

Christmas Eve ideally. But will probably, for practical purposes, be two or three days before Christmas instead. Playroom tree is decorated a week or so before Christmas.

mid December, I like it to be up for DD's birthday (18th).

didn't the tradition used to be that it went up on Christmas Eve? Hate them being up too early, I think it really dilutes Christmas.

Elsiequadrille · 18/10/2013 14:23

What's this 12 days before Christmas thing? Not related to the 12 days of Christmas ending on the Epiphany?

Elsiequadrille · 18/10/2013 14:25

We're celebrating Yule too, Eating.

willyoulistentome · 18/10/2013 14:30

Usually the weekend before the weekend before Chrsitmas, as that's when we can go and get it. I take it down on 12th night.

WangoFandango · 18/10/2013 14:38

About a week before. But I still feel anything before 23rd December is a bit ITV Grin.

iloveholidays · 18/10/2013 14:42

we're definitely putting up decorations on 1st this year and I reckon we'll do tree too.

want to make a day of it with elf coming and advent calendar as well Smile

Chewbecca · 18/10/2013 14:44

I'm also going to have to have a check because of Crossstich's comment because I was about to say that DS's birthday is 6 December so never before then, normally the Sunday after.

Nix01 · 18/10/2013 14:45

Oh yes, Iloveholidays, the Elf and Advent calendars are arriving on 1 December too

MrsDV When I read this >> OMGOMGOMG I am SO glad you asked this!

I knew, I just knew...

Its 8 foot and luminous pink

^^ was going to follow Grin

Mine will be up on the 30th of November & down at the very last minute before the lovely men from the local church come to collect them (free!) - love love love Christmas lights.

If anyone knows where I can get some proper old fashioned Christmas Tree Lights (you know, the ones with the flower shaped holder), at a reasonable price - please let me know. The modern ones are lovely & all that... but they're Just Not Right.
