Unusual stocking fillers that aren't plastic tat

ObtuseAngel · 16/10/2013 13:05

The things that websites and shops tout as stocking fillers are usually nasty overpriced plastic toys that break straight away. What we need is a nice long list of things that will be cheap, useful and interesting. Obviously everyone already knows about patterned pencils and unusually shaped rubbers, but it would be good to have other stuff too.

I will contribute:

Plaque disclosing liquid/tablets. DS got a pack of these in a party bag last year and I thought WTF, but he and DD really loved using them.

Mini magnetic bookmarks, DS is a keen reader but gets very frustrated if his bookmark falls out and he looses his place so I bought him these and he loves them.

Gosh you're welcome PP Smile!

b&m bargains have some peppermint footmasks for £1 and they are really good, ideal for teen girls :)

Dancergirl · 24/10/2013 23:52

Oooh elsie where do you get the Russian dolls from?

fuzzpig · 27/10/2013 11:32

I just ordered this card game for my own stocking :o I remember playing it as a child and loved it, as did my mum (as it was history-related) - would be great for any history nuts, young or old.

comeandgo · 27/10/2013 12:55

Great tip fuzzrpig, thank you :)

soontobeslendergirl · 27/10/2013 13:25

I don't have girls, or any to buy for, but I saw these when I was looking for something for myself and thought they looked lovely and very reasonable:

Also in blue and purple :)

JiltedJohnsJulie · 27/10/2013 21:24

Honk this thread has inspired me. I always struggle for stocking fillers for DS. When we were out today I spotted some lovely bamboo puzzles and bought one for him. Feel a little, tiny bit pleased with myself Smile

Elsiequadrille · 28/10/2013 16:43

Sorry Dancergirl, just spotted this. From ebay (the Henry VIII dolls) approx £30. There are some lovely ones for younger children at Molly Meg, too (sorry no time to link am just about to dash off).

Anyone's LED rings turned up?
Mine Missing in action currently.

The tickseed stuff is lovely tho.

comeandgo · 31/10/2013 20:01

What did you buy from tickseed thats really lovely - am so tempted by that site! Smile

nextphase · 31/10/2013 20:14

Pick up sticks, some wooden wiggly worms, a scurrying wooden mouse, bat with ball attached.
Kids are pretty small tho.

BeCoolFucker · 31/10/2013 20:22

still waiting on my LED lights

fuzzpig · 31/10/2013 20:24

These poppers are brilliant. I daresay many would class them as tat but they are fab and aren't breakable (unlike tiny versions I tried getting for party bags).

I used to have them when I was little and had struggled for years to remember what they were called so I could try and find them. Then DSD showed me one of those nostalgia page photos on her FB feed. I nearly hit the roof! :o

Might get a smiley face one for the stockings this year. They never cease to delight me and the DCs.

pinkpetrol · 31/10/2013 20:42

I got my led lights yesterday. I ordered them about 3 weeks ago

DaftApeth · 02/11/2013 12:11

No finger lights here yet. I guess they were inundated with orders!

I did orde a mouth light (not sure why!) and that came a few days ago, posted from China!

DaftApeth · 02/11/2013 12:39

Yep, just checked. Finger lights coming from Guangdong Province too.

3bunnies · 02/11/2013 13:07

2/3 of my finger lights are here now, ordered just before beginning of thread. Still waiting for ring watches and snitches.

GigiDarcy · 02/11/2013 14:30

Great thread! Don't have any DCs yet but do have a class of year 5s to buy for, do you think they would like finger lights or will that out me?!

lucysmam · 02/11/2013 14:37

3bunnies any chance of links? Smile

Gigi I reckon they'd enjoy them!

SarahPercyAndBill · 02/11/2013 15:03

Not cheap but Lush do great bath bombs including this robot kid size that turns the water a turquoise blue (doesn't stain) and smells like lavender. They also do bubble wands and all sorts of Xmas smellie bubble makers like these

3bunnies · 02/11/2013 15:50

Can't do links on phone :( They are both on Amazon the snitch is from niceEShop put in harry potter golden snitch watch - there are two listings choose the one which says 2x and you will get 2 for £2.59.

The finger ring watches are 37p again on amazon from detailer-uk. Hope you can find them.

Finger lights are v popular with my yr 4 girl gigi and with the child who stole one when she got it as a reward at school. Just need to be aware if anyone is epileptic as although they don't flash it might be disturbing if they were all playing with them in class. I'm planning to split the packs and give one light, one ring watch, plus pen and notebooks (7 plastic covered ones for 99p from 99p shop) in spy party bags.

fuzzpig · 02/11/2013 15:54

I'm really tempted by those bath robot things for Xmas eve - normally can't use anything in the bath as DS has eczema but I've heard the lush products are very safe.
