so what are you guys aiming for?

Mine is silver,gold,green I've had the same theme for years I just add new things to it each year.

Always buy a new crystal glass bauble. Last year added a swag to go up the stair rail and decorated it.

This year were looking for a wooden advent calendar dd & dss are both 10 & 11 but we still like to add new things

last year i went traditional and had lots of red white and green,old fashioned decorations etc,this year the decorations on the tree are gold and im keeping the other stuff quite simple,cream candles,rattan wreath,rattan christmas tree lighty up cone thing!

will have a wreath with berries and cones and lights on the door,and some more colourful stuff in our music room,thats where i put the advent chest and nativity set and stuff.i try to keep the living room more tasteful.

i would love to do a stair garland thing but we dont really have one thats on show,the staircase is kind of hidden at the back of the house and theres no bannister,just a rail!

Well I started off traditional and have somehow ended up with a very Nordic looking tree lots of red white green and gold but I have lots of hand carved wooden bits and bobs and the effect is lovely

We sort of have a Scandinavian theme, not deliberately but because it's a look I like and I got a lot of my tree decorations when I lived in Finland.

We don't have any baubles on the tree, mostly wooden animals and some wicker and felt shapes. No tinsel and only white lights. I fancy plain glass baubles in the window this year.

I will also do homemade creations of holly, ivy and pine for the mantlepiece (this will not be professional quality, but will be free). And we have fairy lights in wicker balls to hang around our big mirror. And a really plain ivy wreath on the door.

When the dds are bigger I suspect my tasteful theme will have to change to suit their tastes and enthusiasm!

We had red and white last year (white tree, red and white decs), this year i'm having our first real tree so am going with traditional and a bit tacky (80's style with a bit of vintage mixed in), am making a few things with fabric, maybe cushion covers and bunting .

In recent years, I've come back round to the traditional colours, as in our new(ish) house, the stairs (in my living room), are red.

So over recent years I've been buying more red decorations (already got lots of gold ones). I have some silver / white ones too, which I use a bit, but am phasing some of those out.

Personally, I like the traditional look (as in proper traditional - Victorian style, not 1970s tack) and have been collecting the little ornament toys. We're very lucky to actually have a Christmas shop in our village, so I buy some bits and bobs in there, but it's not cheap. However they're quirky and different, and provide interest. I like anything interesting, (tend to avoid plain baubles) so long as they're tasteful. I try hard to make my house look nice all year round, and I'm not going to change that just because its Christmas!

I'd be interested in knowing what people put on their banister wreaths, and how they get the look... That sounds really interesting.

Mines always tacky as many fairy lights as possible, usually multiple chasers/ flashing, tonnes of tinsel and baubles.

Ours is ... evolving! Every year we buy a new ornament for each child which they choose themselves. Plus a few collected through other ways or made at preschool etc. We have a list describing each child's ornament, and when they leave home a shoe box will be aquired and sent with them (whether they like it or not!). When the last one has left the tree will probably turn purple and red!

We've had various colour themes over the years; silver and gold, pink and silver, blue and silver, purple and silver, teal and silver. However we keep going back to silver, white, clear glass and crystal.

My kitchen I decorate in a Scandinavian theme. Lots of red and white. Was very inspired on a winter trip to Stockholm one year. My drawing room though is very traditional. Lots of gold, green and red. God I'm desperate to get my decorations up. :)

I think colour schemes looks too tasteful, and if there's one thing that Christmas isn't about, it's any sort of taste or restraint.

My style is traditional countryside. Red and gold are the main colours with lots of natural decorations such as holly over pictures, mistletoe by the door and garlands down the stairs and along the fireplace. I'm only strict with regards to shop bought decorations, home made can be slightly outwith the colour scheme. I have ornaments that I have collected in various countries for the tree, as well as shop bought baubles, ribbons tied into bows for the ends of the branches, beads draped inside the tree, candy canes and some wooden/knitted decorations from my grandmother. White lights only, never coloured.

Generally traditional red and gold theme, although we also buy a "special" bauble for each person every year which is entirely their choice.
I also buy the Swarovski Christmas bauble every year, so have quite a collection of those too.

I've got quite a collection of the Swarvski Christmas ornaments too. They go on a white lit garland hung on the fireplace mirror.

we have had for the last few years. 2011 was a dr who themed christmas, white lights on tree, blue and silver tinsel, blue and silver gift wrapping, big blue star or tree, weeping angels, tardis and dalek gingerbread biscuits in little cello bags hanging on the tree, tardis christmas cake etc. was good fun but a lot of hard work. last year i went quite scandi style, lots of wood and red and white for everything. this year i think we are going traditional, probably red gold and green, should be able to reuse some of last years things. not sure what to do about wrapping yet, either same colour as the decs, or lots of brown paper and pretty ribbons.

Looking back at photos, the nicest our tree ever looked was with an orange and pink theme.

I've had blue and silver (nice, but cold), red and gold, purple (looked awful) and last year was carefully chosen by me multicoloured. This year we're doing Indian multi colour (pink, orange, purple, burgundy , royal blue and lime green).

Just been looking for the Swarovski Xmas 2013 ornament, and they've started doing an annual bauble as well!

I've done purple and bronze, bronze and gold, brown and gold. But this year I'm doing red white and gold, very disney Christmas for my DD.

We're going to make a special trip to disney store for her to choose one extortionate decoration and start a tradition

My colours are garish- lime green, hot pink, silver and red on a green tree. My next buy will be a vintage looking Aluminium and tinsel tree but it's hard to find exactly what I'm looking for.Lots of sparkles and glitter. The table display is vintage.

The dcs have a small tree covered in superheroes, ninjas, toy story and the like.
