Oh for the love of God please just tell me which tablet I need?!

I've never used a tablet, dc have never used a tablet, I am clueless as is Dh.

I want to get them one each, ds is 7 and dd is 3. They don't have to be the same one.

They will 'need' them for watching movies, watching likes of iplayer, playing apps (educational and non) and searching net .

What should I buy? I'm thinking of the tesco hudl for ds? Can I do all the above on it? What about for dd? I don't think she'd like an innotab because she will want something that looks grown up like ds's.

Please someone just explain things as if I am a complete tablet novice and complete technophobic idiot, because, well, I am.

I don't want to spend much over £100 on ds and much much less if possible on dd.

Ps I've had advice already but I just don't understand.

I think I am getting a dd1 (6yo) a nook.

I did think about getting her a Kindle but I like that the nook is android and can connect to Google play and cheaper

BeaWheesht · 29/09/2013 12:53

You see -android??? Google play???

Nook's are a great price at the moment. I have a NOOK 7 inch and would recommend. Will do all they need.

DameFanny · 29/09/2013 13:11

If you let them have an always-on connection to an online store - as you would with a kindle or nook, or setup for google play , it could cost you a lot more than a hundred quid.

Get a cheap Android - you can get them for 60 quid or so - and don't give them the wifi password. If they want something added you connect and download, and then have it forget the wifi connection - it's the best way to avoid the three year old downloading the entirety of the Disney back catalogue...

bymoonlight · 29/09/2013 14:28

Can't I put parental controls on the nook so dd1 can't spend without the password?

stargirl1701 · 29/09/2013 14:31

A shared family iPad?

BeaWheesht · 29/09/2013 15:04

Damefanny - I don't even know what you mean by android! Sorry. Could they watch movies / play apps/ iplayer and search the Internet? If so what 'android' would be good?

I'd love a family iPad but its way above our budget.

Even a re-conditioned iPad 2? You can buy them direct from Apple shops.

BeaWheesht · 29/09/2013 16:54

But I don't think one iPad between 2 kids would work because we need it to use when travelling

Check out the new Tesco one for around £100.

BeaWheesht · 29/09/2013 19:22

Yes I'm leaning towards to Tesco one for ds I think, thanks.

Any ideas on an uber cheap one for dd??

Please?

I've just bought a nook hd only £79 as a replacement tablet for ds2 (10) and will probably get one for my ds1 (13) for xmas.

cariadmawr · 29/09/2013 19:32

Watching with deep interest I want one for ds2 (7) they are all lost on me

derektheladyhamster · 29/09/2013 19:33

I think you can have 6 different 'accounts' on the nook with different books and apps on.

bymoonlight · 29/09/2013 19:36

I am considering a HUDL.

Does anyone know the differences between a nook and a hudl?

BeaWheesht · 29/09/2013 19:41

By moonlight - clearly I don't but I'm wondering the same.

Nexus 7.

I'm off to complain on Site Stuff.

Asheth · 29/09/2013 19:50

I think the nook doesnt have a camera and the hudl does. I'm thinking hudl for my ds but waiting for it to be out a bit longer so i can hear peoples opinions!

I wouldn't go for a Nexus. Mine is completely buggered because I accidentally let the battery die completely - now it won't charge or turn back on ever again. And this is a fairly common fault with Nexus's, so I wouldn't think it a great choice for very little ones who wouldn't keep an eye on the battery icon.
