There has been a great thread the last couple of years where people said what they had got for their dc. It was really helpful and gave me lots of ideas for my nieces presents. I have boys and am clueless as to what girls toys are suitable at different ages. Since theres no thread like this yet, i thought I'd start one :)

Ds 1(6)

Build your own volcano kit
Sticker book
Selection box
Stocking fillers

Ds 2 (4)

Goodking- Is that from everybody though? I bet their total amount of gifts is much more if your family and others buy for them.
What about choccies and stuff, little bits like that? Usually the most popular gifts in our house are the edible ones! Don't feel sad, I'm sure they will be happy with whatever they get, we only got a few things as children but I still remember Christmas as being a magical timeSmile

Yes, goodking, your kids are still getting great presents. Your DS2 won't care if the skates are new or secondhand. Chuck in a selection box each and it's a good Christmas all round. You could do books and selection box for both for Christmas and skates for his birthday.

If you look at my list, most of what we've got DS1 falls into the category 'some books' (and a poster). He gets much more impressive sounding things from his dad than we get him, and my mum goes a bit mad every year. I have to rein her in, but can never manage that with exP. He'll really love the books though.

My friends used to marvel at all the tat stuff my parents got my sister and I for Christmas, but more doesnt mean better. I think I'd've appreciated a small number of well chosen presents than mountains of stuff that took hours to open. It was just impossible to really enjoy what I had.

I'm much more selective with my kids. In years gone by when I was utterly skint, I used to get by with getting a couple of books for DS1 and letting all my relatives shower him in presents. But those books were much loved (and still loved by DS2).

No, my Mum is the only grandparent now and she's not very well off and my brother will give Ds money and Dd something small, but apart from that, that's the lot.
Ds gets through a thick 300+ page book a day!! so they will last him a couple of days only! he's insatiable with books.
Dd will love the skates, but she knows they are coming as she was with me when I bought them.
They will be fine, they will have to be and I have been warning them for several weeks now that there wont be much at all...whether Ds is taking that seriously or not, I don't know, but he's been told.
