Just wanted to check with anyone with/ that knows an 11yr old girl.. Would nail varnish, nail stickers etc be suitable?

Seen some bits im thinking of on the Fragrance direct website that was linked to earlier.

AWimbaWay · 30/10/2012 21:48

Can I ask a silly question about hama beads? My 6 year old would love them, but I don't quite get it, once you've ironed the beads do they come off the pegboard so you can reuse it or are they then stuck to the pegboard forever?

BeaWheesht · 30/10/2012 21:49

They come off and you reuse the pegboard. Ds loves them. However if I were you I'd buy a big tub of ikea ones and a packet of ikea pegboards - soooooo much cheaper.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 30/10/2012 21:50

No you put the paper over them iron the top side side, lift off, flip over, remove board put paper on and iron then you take the paper off and reuse it.

Hope that makes sense.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 30/10/2012 21:52

Bea i have been looking at these beads for dd.

Looks like a good amount of beads and boards and reduced by £5.00

AWimbaWay · 30/10/2012 21:53

Thank you, thought they must but thought I'd check before buying millions of beads and only a few boards!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/10/2012 21:54

My DCs (6 and 8) love Hama beads, I thought it would be a shortlived thing, they've been going strong with them for about 3 years now. I like doing them myself from time to time too. They're a bugger when they get spilled though, especially on hard floors, they roll everywhere. Very good for concentration, pattern recognition and fine motor skills.

Chockywockydoodah · 30/10/2012 21:54

pigley my niece is 10 and I got her a cute boxed nail varnish set with bright colours and stickers. She LOVED it! I also got her an inexpensive charm bracelet and a lollipop shaped lip balm from Claires Accessories too which she loved. They have loads of nice things in Claires for that sort of age range like crazy flavoured lip balms and kitsch necklaces etc.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 30/10/2012 21:57

Bea been looking at these as well

DDs are 9 and 6 and they love beads but Whoknows is right, when they get dropped on the wooden floors i just hoover them up!!

BeaWheesht · 30/10/2012 21:57

For anyone with a Gruffalo fan have a look here

BeaWheesht · 30/10/2012 21:59

That Argos Hama deals great

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 30/10/2012 22:00

Yes i think i may get that one, free delivery on it too. You can pick up boards on ebay, our local independent toy shop sells lots too.

PersuedByPenguins · 30/10/2012 22:12

I fancied getting DD Hama beads too... Would you recommend the Argos deal or the Ikea ones?

PfftTheMagicDraco · 30/10/2012 22:19

Hobbycraft do their own brand range of beads which are cheaper than Hama. They don't sell them in the same quantities, so you have to do some maths on the spot, but they are just the same.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/10/2012 22:20

Yes, we've got that box from Argos, we just top it up. It doesn't have any grids with it, you need to get them separately. My two have a mixture of the basic grids (squares, circles etc) and the specific, animal shaped ones. I just buy extra bags of beads in any colours we are getting sort of. They also get a new grid and bag of beads each in their Christmas stocking, this year they are getting glow in the dark beads.

We get ours from this website now, as we only want extras not whole kits now. craftmerrily, they have a sister website beadmerrily that has all sorts of patterns and ideas.

sweetkitty · 30/10/2012 22:32

Not happy have been patiently waiting for Boots extra points days and the largest thing I want is out of stock but have found it on amazon but not 3 for 2!

oreocrumbs · 30/10/2012 22:35

The little girl in question is coming over tomorrow so I shall probe a bit and make my decision because there are too many good ideas!

Bargain christmas dvd. Is this bargain enough? £5 for 3 mickey christmas films. Once upon a christmas, twice upon a christmas and mickey's magical christmas.

MySecretSelf · 30/10/2012 22:43

Yesitsonmytodolist · 31/10/2012 00:04

Wilko do a little sets similar to Hama beads as part of their stocking filler stuff. They are quite sweet and are only £2 each.

insanityscratching · 31/10/2012 06:42

Oreo sequin art sets are in home bargains for £3.99 but they aren't showing up online.

fruitcorner · 31/10/2012 06:49

Sylvanian regency house now half price on Argos , £59 rather than £100 odd. Sorry can't link.

LaTrucha · 31/10/2012 07:13

I'm feeling left out now as I got DD aquabeads. Have I made a mistake?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/10/2012 07:27

My DD has an aqua bead set as well as Hama beads and she has had a lot of use out of both. Aqua have the advantage of not needing an iron to stick them together.
