Is buying a 'Lord' or 'Lady' title naff?

Just that really.

Can't decide. Think I know a couple of people who would love being called a Lord or Lady.

Would you find it naff if you were on the receiving end?

If it's bought seriously then naff, but great as a joke present.

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 22/09/2012 21:21

Brilliant thank you.

As an aside, the word naff takes me right back to my school days [memory lane]

IamtheZombie · 22/09/2012 21:23

Grin Grin Grin

thekidsarealright · 22/09/2012 21:30

MIL bought SIL one a couple of Christmas' ago as a joke because SIL is a stuck up snob who thinks she's above normal life despite having achieved nothing apart from a clean kitchen floor and a soulless marriage

Kleptronic · 22/09/2012 21:31

Yes.

HTH.

milk · 22/09/2012 21:53

Can I still pick my nose if I become a "lady"? :P

scottishmummy · 22/09/2012 21:54

if you're a lady ones butler does it

IamtheZombie · 22/09/2012 22:06

They don't provide butlers with those titles, sm. One must still pick one's own nose.

SharonGless · 22/09/2012 22:22

Sorry but yes. I would think it was a piss take

SuiGeneris · 22/09/2012 22:27

Beyond naff: cringeworthy. Please don't.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/09/2012 00:18

I've not got a title -real or aquired but I do have my own star named after me Wink

OK< I probably don't own it but I'm sure I've got TimeShare Visitation Rights type thingummybob.

It's in Caseopia somewhere.

May well charter a space shuttle and wander off to explore my star.....

LadySybildeChocolate · 23/09/2012 00:19

Yes, very naff. I mean, why pay when you can call yourself 'Lady' on here for free? Grin

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 23/09/2012 00:34

Not for me, but, if the person receiving it liked it then thats all that matters isnt it? BIl, got one and loved it (not from us I hasten to add Grin)

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 23/09/2012 00:36

I made DSDad Laird of his own square foot of Scottish Woodland a few years ago. He was dead chuffed! Grin

deleted203 · 23/09/2012 00:37

Not just naff but chavvy.

oreocrumbs · 23/09/2012 10:54

I have a business aquaintance who changed his name by deed poll to Lord XX.

I kid yee not. I thought it was a joke (because he is a bit of a plum, and is known by several mocking nicknames), but lo and behold in the licencing department he made a legal application that was sent to me to see and his legal name is Lord XX.

I actually think he is rather marvellous because he is so bonkers!

QOD · 23/09/2012 10:57

Sis and I bought one for step dad for his 50th - did a little speech and sort of knighted him. Very funny

He had it on the bottom of his email signature thingy for a while and got an amazing upgrade in a hotel in Thailand. Hahaha

We've had lots of mileage out of it, had "Lord QOD's Stepdad" embroidered on a hat and tshirt etc. amuses us!!

RikersBeard · 23/09/2012 11:01

Not just naff, but isn't it a waste of money? After the 5 minute "joke" what have you got? Like those star things, all you actually have is a piece of paper, what's the point?

THETrills · 23/09/2012 11:03

Yes, extremely.

Not quite as naff as personalised number plates, but if you like personalised number plates then you have something to show for it.

Shinyshoes1 · 23/09/2012 11:04

I bought one for me and DP a few years back

Tis a right laugh

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 23/09/2012 11:10

Totally.

IslaValargeone · 23/09/2012 11:10

I think it's fabulous :o
You can pitch a tent and camp, my dh loves all camping in the scottish wilderness shite, I'm going to buy him one for his birthday.
