307 days till Christmas

Do I have the record for the first Christmas thread of 2012? Grin

OMG, we're at 49 days - where have I been?! I really want November to go quickly!

DH and I are going christmas shopping for the family. Inevitably we will start arguing about what to get people, and will come home with nothing. It's one of our christmas traditions!

BiddyPop · 05/11/2012 08:31

I'm back, having had a week off work (doing nothing? relaxing and destressing as per plan? Nah - everyone else needed so much stuff done that I had no time to myself, and dH completely messed up my birthday).

I managed to get ski wear for DNiece and DNephew's presents (Lidl, but as they live in Scotland, they usually see snow).

Otherwise, I didn't get much done except reiterate to MIL and my Mum that we won't be down for Christmas dinner this year. So that's settled at least...

Just got back from Lakeside (picking up pesky Halo 4 for my PFB) and it is lovely and festive .
It's like now we've got Hallowe'en and Guy Fawkes out the way it's Full Steam Ahead. Grin

It was very quiet today which is nice but this time next month it'll be like Hades.

Though no Christmas muzak as yet. I'm waiting to hear "Fairtytale of New York" then it's officially Christmas Wink

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/11/2012 12:11

Fairtytale Blush .
Where did that come from?

Grin thanks for that Rabid

He's a handsome devil, that Shane !

buzzgirly · 08/11/2012 06:55

70 not sure i would use the word handsome when talking about Shane! Wink. I think christmas begins when you hear "Mistletoe and Wine", cheesy but I really love it.

I am trying to do my shopping using the tesco clubcard exchange, but the site is absolute pants! I have spent hours on site and phone - beginning to lose the will to shop.

I was in primark and they have christmas jumpers on sale. I got ds a reindeer one, there were none in dd's size so will go back up next week for her. DH showed quite a bit of interest in the penguin jumper so he might get that on December 1st! I will obviously need to get one for myself to!

(not a Christmas post, but just to mark Armistice Day today)

Lest We Forget

RabidCarrot · 11/11/2012 09:44

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

I have finally started to make some tangible progress. I started wrapping on Saturday afternoon, after a trip to Ikea, and have now wrapped about half of the presents. The PJs are in a nice box to pop under the tree as well. And I have a better idea of the few I have left to organise.

Although, I had better get cracking on finishing knitting a beanie hat for 1 DNephew, and writing the mountain of cards I need to.

40 days !

I'm on a chocolate free stint till Christmas- I did it for Lent (and it was blardy difficult- but I can do another one (I'm on Day 2). This'll be worse than "I'm a Sleb". Sad

I bought some Chavtastic gold and black leggings from Primani and I need to look lush, not like a black pudding in gold foil.

Once again this year, I've had requests for my Vodka Christmas Cake recipe so here goes. Please keep in your files as I am beginning to get tired of typing this up every year! (Made mine this morning!!!!) 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1 cup water, 1 tsp. salt , 1 cup brown sugar, Lemon juice, 4 large eggs, Nuts, 1......bottle Vodka, 2 cups dried fruit.
Sample a cup of Vodka to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the Vodka again to be sure it is of the highest quality then Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point, it is best to make sure the Vodka is still OK. Try another cup just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 eegs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the fruit up off the floor, wash it and put it in the bowl a piece at a time trying to count it. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit getas stuck in the beaterers, just pry it loose with a drewscriver Sample the Vodka to test for tonsisticity. Next, sift 2 cups of salt, or something. Check the Vodka. Now shit shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the Vodka and wipe the counter with the cat.
