307 days till Christmas

Do I have the record for the first Christmas thread of 2012? Grin

Thanks, I definitely need to declutter anyway and Xmas is an extra jolly reason to do it :)

I've warned informed the DC that the TV in the back room is mine on the 24th/25th for QVC Christmas in July.
Grin

They can have the X-Box in DS room and I'll quieten them with some crisps/sweets .

(It's for their benefit, BTW, to make sure Christmas runs smoothly) Wink

I got another stocking filler for DD (Moshi Monsters zip puller) at the weekend. And I found, although i haven't yet ordered, more sticker mosaics for her too (which I think will be part of Christmas pressies).

I will be having THAT talk with DH in the car going to see his parents at the weekend, to decide where we want to be. Cos I need to start getting that clear in my mind. And be prepared to "repel all boarders" (aka prevent MIL from getting her hooks into DH for us to travel - I much prefer when we stay in ours) - and if we have decided to travel, the rapelling will be needed to book a cottage of our own to retreat to in between keeping both families happy (my parents live only 15 miles from his parents - while we keep a healthy 160 miles distance from both) :)

buzzgirly · 11/07/2012 10:05

70 what is QVC Christmas in July?

biddy thanks for link for the organised Christmas countdown. I am going to be organised this year, or will be doing my best to try to be.

I have bought dd's first present, Tesco had hello kitty art boxes reduced to £5.

Shouldacouldawoulda · 11/07/2012 10:15

I think it is the lack of a decent summer, but I am finding myself looking forward to Christmas earlier than usual.

fuzzpig · 11/07/2012 13:26

Me too shoulda, everything is crap in my family right now (and the weather too!) so I'm desperate for a happy time. Really hoping DH will have had his operation by then and will actually be fit and healthy for the first time in 3 years. Alternatively he might be having it around Xmas itself which would obviously add a whole new twist though I rather fancy organising my own Xmas stocking.

I am happy though as DH agreed we could ask one of my best mates and his mum round for Xmas day, normally they spend it on their own I think. Or even just a day near then. He's at uni now so barely get to see him. His mum was also a massive support to me when we lived near them when DD was little. I would rather spend Xmas with them than my parents (who will be coming up another day... No idea if it'll be together or apart though)

Christmas In July (CIJ) is every year on 25th July (then they started a couple of hours on the 24th. Now it's all day 24th & 25th).
QVC uk used to get loads of products from the USA but I've noticed in the past 3-4 years they are bringing alot from Clearance and labelling it CIJ prices.

I will watch (I'm on holidays , the DC will be starting their summer hols).
I try and buy candles (Yankee or Prices) wrapping paper, and maybe decorations if there's anything nice Wink

Then they do some Christmas stock on 25th Aug/Sept/Oct/Nov Grin but not a whole day.

Shouldacouldawoulda · 11/07/2012 21:03

How much do you pay for Yankee candles on QVC?

Magneto · 11/07/2012 21:17

Just checking in as I haven't been here in ages! It's nearly ds's birthday so concentrating on that. Failing miserably as I have no cake for him and don't know where to get one from and can't decide if and how to decorate the room for him!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 11/07/2012 21:32

I could get on board with some qvc christmas in July, thanks for the heads up! :)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/07/2012 22:09

Some of the Yankee Candles work out at 2/3 of the price for a set of 3 jars.( they retail at £19 for large jars or £7.99 for small on the high street)

Only worth it if you like all the fragrences (and factor in the P&P) The Encore jars are good too, sort of bin end fragrences ,so not a named smell, but a mixture iof several.

I don't tend to buy the samplers or tealights because I find the large candles last me ages.

I found an Ebay site that had large jars for £14 and Free P&P but they've gone up now.

I covet the Soft Blankets at the moment, mainly for the little teddy bear picture.

fuzzpig · 11/07/2012 22:34

Soooo. What is a Yankee candle then?

Shouldacouldawoulda · 11/07/2012 22:52

They smell lovely.

fuzzpig · 12/07/2012 07:44

:o the way posts are written on Threads I'm On made it look like you were saying it was 165,201 days gone. Got a bit confused...

I actually had a dream about Xmas last night, mainly a lovely tree and decorations. I really do want to make more effort this year.

buzzgirly · 12/07/2012 09:12

Thanks 70, after many years of buying small candles that don't really give much scent - I am going to splurge on some Yankee candles. I would also really like to get some outdoor lights for the tree at our new house, most of the neighbours decorate gardens so would be rude to do the same Wink. DH is less keen on this.

fuzz I'm the same as you, really want to make much of an effort this year. I want December to be one long Xmas festival! I will still be on maternity leave so will try to make the most of it.

Has anyone started on present lists yet?

Shouldacouldawoulda · 12/07/2012 09:53

The half price candles online seem to be the same price as the full price ones at my local garden centre, so it's worth shopping around.

fuzzpig · 12/07/2012 12:55

I've not really done any lists yet but I'm just adding lots of things to my amazon wishlist - it's not divided by person, but by category (ie one just for books). We don't have many people to buy for so it's not confusing :)

fuzzpig · 12/07/2012 20:10

Eg today I remembered how much DSD likes twilight so I've added the DVDs/books to my wishlist, so nearer the time I can check she's not already got them etc.

It's gonna mess up my recommendations and stuff isn't it, I'll end up getting amazon emails about all sorts of moody vampire shite.

If that doesn't prove I'm a lovely stepmum I don't know what does :o (apart from getting her JLS stuff last 2 years in a row! Wink)
