So... when do you put YOUR Christmas tree up?

DH and I are not really into Christmas and only really have the tree for DS. Last year ours went up in early December, and to be honest I got fed up with looking at it by the time Christmas came. Our tree always comes down on New Years Day - always.

The last couple of years as DS (now 8) has got older, it has been fun decorating the tree together and become somewhat of a ritual in our little family. We have always had Christmas just the three of us as our family is quite fragmented and spread out (physically and emotionally) Hmm

SOmeone on my Facebook wrote theirs is going up this weekend. I was thinking of doing it on the 16th when they break up from school which is when I feel the "holiday" really starts. What do you all think?

Grin at festive incontinence - I believe I may also be afflicted.

We would usually put it up around the 10th and take it down on Epiphany, but
I am obsessed with Christmas so keep trying to get it up earlier and earlier
this year we are going away on the 10th for a week so I we are putting it up on Saturday as I will be "missing out" on a week of the tree. Oh, and of course our just two year old will love the tree being up. I just love Christmas so much that I want to get as much of it as possible - cue carols all day today!

Real tree here too so god knows what it will look like by Christmas day.

I meant to leave mine for a while, but I got too excited. It's one of those artificial ones that takes a few hours to assemble all the sodding individual branches so I put it up a few days ago when I had a spare evening but I'm saving the decorating until tomorrow this weekend.

I'd happily have a tree that had nothing but hundreds and hundreds of lights on it.

Mine will go up next Tuesday or Wednesday. I love it so don't like leaving it too late. My DCs are 3 and 1 though so we put it up once they're in bed for a surprise the next day. When they're older I'd like to do it with them.

But FIFIBEBE - how will Santa know where to leave the presents? Shock

Ours will go up on Sat 10th Dec, as we're having a party on the 11th.
Means it will be a bit whiffy by twelfth night though.

I am not really into Christmas - without kids I wouldn't bother with decs or a tree but the kids are so excited and really want to put the tree up this weekend and I've found myself wondering why the hell not, where's the harm?

My folks refused to have the tree up before 24th Dec, I desperately hoped every year we could convince them to do it earlier, it felt so miserable to be the last ones in the street to put up there tree.

The season is for them not us, we're not religious...we don't give a stuff about tradition either, so no hang ups about putting up and taking down on a particular night.

This time I've decided to let them have their fun, December is the Christmas Season & I'm going with the flow and our house will shine brightly for the whole of December and to my relief put all away on 2nd Jan.

I'm letting my dd set the Christmas table too - you wouldn't believe how excited she is about that - it's lovely. Smile

Sunday 11th after church

nappyaddict · 01/12/2011 12:39

We do it the weekend before Christmas or the weekend they break up from school.

I would like to do it Christmas Eve but I usually have to work so it would be a bit of a mad rush.

MegBusset · 01/12/2011 12:50

Ours will go up on Saturday. First real one in five years, I can't wait :)

Never before the 20th - that's just how it was growing up so it seems proper to me now that a tree shouldn't go up until the date starts with a 2! But other house decorations go up around the first day of Advent.
