Playmobil Post office advent calendar has 20% off on John Lewis here. Looks fun!

I started a thread on here last year when our Christmas Post Office advent calendar turned out to be missing half its contents! Shock I found out on 30th November when I got it out to set up for the following morning! My mum had bought it in Germany and it wasn't out in the UK then, so there wasn't much I could do - in the end the German Playmobil customer service people did send us most of the missing bits but it didn't have a backdrop and was never quite the same Sad.

Nevertheless we are still big Playmobil fans in this house and this year we will be having TWO of their advent calendars - dd is having the fairy garden/unicorn one and ds, who wants a dragon dungeon for Christmas, will be having the dragon knights advent calendar. I can't wait - although will be sure to check the boxes this year!

DamselInDisarray · 11/11/2011 10:08

My mum just bought a playmobil dinosaur calendar for DS2 and the Lego star wars calendar for DS1. They're both delighted.

stealthsquiggle · 11/11/2011 10:12

Norman step away from that sledge - you don't want to mess with the FC mafia, you know...

Bother. That JLP price is less than I paid for DD's. DS has the Star Wars lego one (at more than twice the price Shock) this year.

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 11/11/2011 10:26

I think I'll get Yoda, Darth Chewie and the other Characters into a drunken office party display, possibly doing the conga round the Galaxy...

paddingtonbear1 · 11/11/2011 10:29

We bought the dino one for dd, who is into dinosaurs at the moment. She keeps asking when she can open it!

ChristinedePizanne · 11/11/2011 10:38

We have the police one. I haven't told DS yet - was going to get it out on the morning of 1st December. Should I let him have a look at it first?

He's getting a Playmobil pirate ship for Xmas too - I've gone playmobil crazy this year :o

levantine · 11/11/2011 11:15

Keep it as a surprise!

My dcs have always shared one - only getting one each this year as the dragon knights are to populate ds's main Christmas present!

ObiWan · 11/11/2011 12:03

Mine shared last year, but a combination of gifts, freebies and pooling pocket- money has seen them with one each.

And chocolate ones Blush.

stealthsquiggle · 11/11/2011 12:16

My DC shared one year-before-last quite happily (although I did have to keep track of whose turn it was to open it) - last year I fell for the dragon one for DS so DD got a different one (although DS has now brainwashed her into loving dragons too Hmm) - this year DH twisted my arm into getting the lego star wars one, so I responded with the post office for DD.

SingingSands · 11/11/2011 12:21

I've bought DD the Advent Post Office calendar and DS the Police one as a surprise this year. I cannot wait to see their faces on 1st December! I hope they won't be disappointed at not getting chocolate calendars!

I am aware that assembly is required, so will wait until afterwards to have a glass of vino!

stealthsquiggle · 11/11/2011 12:30

SingingSands if they are new ones then no assembly now needed - you might be able to break out the Wine sooner than you think.

My spoilt DC have chocolate calendars as well because SIL buys them - although this year's "do not open until 1 December" parcel for DS is not advent-calendar shaped so I am concerned she might think he has grown out of them - which he definitely hasn't. I am considering buying a spare one just in case - then if he does have one from SIL I can share it with DH keep it all for ME.

DamselInDisarray · 11/11/2011 12:34

My kids have an advent calendar each as they're 9 years apart in age. DS2 doesn't do well with sharing yet and DS1 likes different things. If they were close in age, I'd make them share. Actually, my mum would probably still buy them one each. She seems to show love by buying stuff (which is quite annoying and something I try to keep in check, lest my house fill up entirely with tat).

NormanTheForeman · 11/11/2011 17:15

I was hoping for a sledge ride, stealth Blush. I'm sure Santa wouldn't mind......... Wink

twooter · 11/11/2011 17:31

Always thought a nativity one would make sense...

NormanTheForeman · 12/11/2011 13:27

Playmobil do separate nativity sets as well this one and this one. You could always buy these sets, and give out a piece from them each day, finishing up with the Baby Jesus........

MollieO · 12/11/2011 13:37

We got the Playmobil nativity set and a Lego advent calendar this year as none of the Playmobil advent calendars appealed this year. Not looking forward to assembling bits of Lego every day!

LolaLadybird · 12/11/2011 13:57

I know this sounds dense but I have no prior knowledge of PM advent calendars and think DS would really like one.

How do the boxes that they open work and what is in them? I followed the link to the post office one on the JL website but can't work out from the photo was goes on with the boxes!

TIA

WanderingSheep · 12/11/2011 14:02

Oh I want one but when I pointed it out to DD1 (4) she said, "oh, that's boring, I want one with chocolate in!" Shock DD2 is too young as she's only a baby.

MollieO · 12/11/2011 17:15

The new PM calendars have a cardboard backdrop that you make into a 3d back drop (just folding required) and a separate box that is numbered. You open a square every day and then use whatever piece is in the numbered box to populate your back drop.

The older calendars came with everything flat packed and you had to make up the box yourself and put all the pieces in it. Nightmare if you left it until the evening of 30th November. I made the mistake of doing that one year and was literally up all night trying to set it up.

NormanTheForeman · 12/11/2011 17:17

The new ones are much easier, aren't they? Smile

MollieO · 12/11/2011 17:55

Yes thank heavens! Although I'm a bit concerned about ds's choice of a Lego one this year. I'm rubbish at making things out of Lego.

NormanTheForeman · 12/11/2011 19:18

We have had Lego city ones in the past, but are now firmly in the Playmobil camp - think you get more for your money.

moragbellingham · 14/11/2011 17:50

Anyone know if the "Christmas in the Forest" is from last year?
That's the one I really want as I don't see ponies/dragons/dinosaurs being particularly Christmassy.
I just can't find it without paying a huge amount for postage.
