i think ds(6) would love this but not sure which set to go for? How many pieces is a good starter set?

We got MagNext which is similar with balls and either square or triangular plates, see this

And we have Geomag which is literally balls and sticks see this

I have 2 sons, aged 8 and 5. The MagNext is the stuff they mostly make something constructive out of, the Geomag they mainly make long poles Grin or the spinning ones.

If you have a look on youtube there are some amazing videos of what you can do with Geomag. I think both MagNext and Geomags are brilliant to get the imagination going. We are getting more for Christmas.

This is interesting as we just got our DS age 6 a medium sized set of Geomag. Didn't want to buy large set as you never know if it will be a hit or flop. Can always get more if it's played with lots. Our set was £20 I think but on 3 for 2 at Argos.

When my 2 dd were 5 and 7, I got them 3 boxes of these from the Boots 3 for 2 offer http://www.amazon.co.uk/Geomag-41852-42pc-Pastelle/dp/B0006ISTFO/ref=sr_1_34?s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1319583743&sr=1-34

Also got them 2 more boxes of the panels to complement these and they love playing with it all. There are plenty of sticks and balls and panels to go around. When friends come round, they all build things (solid shapes) together. Great for motor skills.

I was lucky to pick up 3 boxes 2nd hand for ?20, but I have to say get the biggest set you can, or a few smaller sets. My children love them, they are an excellent toy.

Thanks, good to know they seem to be a hit!
