We usually have some party food laid out on the table and we pick at it throughout the evening which is nice but we want a change!

DC don't eat takeaway food otherwise we would have chinese or curry or something. I don't really want to be cooking a big meal on christmas eve so it has to be quite easy and quick to prepare...

Share what you usually have please? :)

We always have a takeaway as it means nobody has to cook and we can just spend a lazy evening watching a christmas film etc.

Usually a beef and beer casserole, done in the slow cooker (so we can settle arriving people and go to the carol service) served with shop bought Mash (microwaved), brocolli and cheesy croutons: you make the grated cheese, butter and mustard paste earlier and stick it in the fridge, when dinner is about 10 mins away slice a french stick into 1" slices and smear the cheesy paste over and pop on a baking tray in the oven.

Only requires about 15 mins prep. Leave for 4 hours. Then 10-15 mins to use the microwave, make croutons and serve. So easy, really tasty and warming. and completely different to Xmas day. Wink

Whatever, anything really... the main focus is what we are having on Christmas day whichi is usually turkey and xmas pud!

The best meal I've ever eaten was on Christmas Eve, was my Mum's cottage pie.

Sounds simple but I'd had DD 2 days prior and had just been released from hospital. I had hyperemesis all the way through so not had a proper meal in 9 months and ate that meal like I'd come out of prison!!

No meal has ever matched that one Grin

But to answer your thread it'll be me cooking again this year so not a clue! Last year was chilli, we were off to a party so needed something with little effort that would feed everyone at different times

We actually eat our xmas eve meal outside on the drive. We do hot dogs , chilli etc and liqueur coffees , then we sing carols and wait for father xmas (who duly dresses up every year and delivers selection boxes to the kids).
This is done by our whole street so about 40 adults and 25 kids. We then sprinkle the glitter and put kids to bed and tidy up. We have been lucky to have snow for the last two years as well. Is becoming a bit of a tradition now.

we always have a fish dish on christmas eve, traditional as my side of the family is norwegian
