SpotSplatterSplash · 15/12/2010 16:10

Oh, I loved this when I was younger! I have just recently downloaded all of LM Montgomery's books for my kindle. I haven't watched the DVD.

Chatelaine · 15/12/2010 16:49

Does anyone remember an ITV/BBC? version of Anne of Green Gables from the early 1970's? I have looked for it since but have not managed to find it. I would simply love to see it again.

cazzybabs · 15/12/2010 17:21

it is on dvd - well there is a film

Chatelaine · 15/12/2010 17:36

It was definitely a series, shown on a Sunday evening and was very detailed.

MrsSnaplegs · 15/12/2010 17:50

Try the BBC shop they used to have it on DVD

Chatelaine · 15/12/2010 20:41

Yes thanks, MrsSnaplegs, I've looked again at the BBC Shop, it's the one with Kim Braden and a very young Jan Francis, will pursue it!

pozzled · 15/12/2010 20:45

Oh yes I remember the Megan Follows version well- used to have it on VHS and watched it many times. I have lost count of the number of times I've read the books as well!

iloveblue · 15/12/2010 22:19

I loved Anne of Green Gables so much when I was younger (still do tbh) - thats one of the reasons I would love a daughter!

I loved the Megan Follows series - did anyone else have a major crush on Gilbert?

AliBellandthe40jingles · 15/12/2010 22:24

I watched the Megan Follows version and I love it, and the books obviously!

iloveblue - hell yes. Mmmm Gilbert

christmaseve · 15/12/2010 22:35

I watched it, Sunday afternoon in the 1970's. Kim Braden, Jan Francis, don't know the actor that played Gilbert Blythe but he was lovely and I had a crush on him.

christmaseve · 15/12/2010 22:42

Oh just googled him, he died in 2004 aged 55. Sad

jennymac · 15/12/2010 22:46

Can't wait till my DD is old enough to watch/read Anne of Green Gables. I still remember my mum buying the book for me and explaining how it was her favourite book as a child. Have the VHS version - the dvds must be relatively new as I remember looking in vain for them a while ago.

Nosnowplease · 15/12/2010 22:53

huh? jonathan crombie played gilbert blythe and hes not dead!

Medee · 15/12/2010 22:58

Loved, loved, loved AoGG, and Megan Follows will always be my Anne (with an E).

VivaLeBeaver · 15/12/2010 22:59

I've got the DVD of the series and Huckleberry Finn. Have tried to get DD into them with no luck so sit there like a saddo on my own watching them.

christmaseve · 16/12/2010 10:02

No, the Gilbert Blythe I had a crush on was an actor called Christopher Blake and he died. This was the series in 1972.

MayorNaze · 16/12/2010 10:03

i have been to prince edward island

it was AMAZING Grin

StayingFatherChristmasGirl · 16/12/2010 10:45

I am jealous, MayorNaze - I still love the Anne books (though the one where she loses her first baby always makes me cry).

I'd completely forgotten about the tv series - you are right, OP, it needs showing again - perhaps mumsnet could start a campaign.... [hopeful]

ihearttc · 16/12/2010 12:57

I have got all the Anne of Green Gables on dvd...and they are fantastic! They are still available on Amazon(am useless at links Im afraid!) but I got the latest one which is a sequel not even written by LM Montgomery about 3 months ago. I was seriously in love with Jonathan Crombie who played Gilbert!
