Spending Boxing day at home for the first time. We usually spend it at inlaws but that is not happening this year so need some ideas of what to do.

We usually go to my sister's but last year we spent Christmas Day with her so went to the beach on Boxing Day. It was really sunny but absolutely freezing and it took at least an hour to be able to feel my feet again!

This year we are all going out for lunch to a really nice restaurant.

piratecatClaus · 10/12/2010 18:32

going to a friends for lunch, as we both have one dc each and they are great friends. just a relaxed thing.

CherryTheRedNosedMonster · 10/12/2010 18:37

i have an open house event, lay on a buffet and people come in and out all through the day and evening.

thebonkers · 10/12/2010 18:38

we are having a big party and inviting friends who also have painfullovely inlaws coming for xmas and need the release. All extended family welcomed.

We all get v tipsy eat up all the scraps and have a super day - there will be about 30 of us incl children

Lovemybrood · 10/12/2010 18:38

I very very rarely cook, this year I am going to do bubble and squeak for dinner and then put lots of nibbles on.

I don't like going out over christmas so we have friends round here.

pagwatch · 10/12/2010 18:38

DH would say as little as possible. Now both sets of GP are dead and we have just 3 teenagers at home I think we may well do just that!

CherryTheRedNosedMonster · 10/12/2010 18:41

knickers- i have spoken to you on here before i think. if your local to me, then you are perfectly welcome to come, but i dont think you live near me (cheltenham)

headfairy · 10/12/2010 18:41

We're going out for a meal with the family because I'm not sure we'll have a) eaten enough the previous day and b) have had quite enough arguments the previous day, so Boxing day is round 2 :o

SantasKnickersOnMyHead · 10/12/2010 18:49

Grin Miles away unfortunately, thank you though!!!

Was just thinking of doing buffet style food, beer and games etc

Will be me, both dc, my dad and dp.

Selfridges sales this year! Then winter wonderland in Hyde park!

mrstimlovejoy · 11/12/2010 09:49

working until about 1.30 then meeting dh and dd at in laws with dh's sisters, brother and their families.we'll all exchange gifts then eat a fabulous buffet that mil does then play silly games.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 11/12/2010 10:01

It's my ds2's birthday so we....do it all over again - presents, nice dinner, birthday tea. However I am liking the idea of panto that Pag suggests, when he gets a bit older, I might start that as it would be a nice birthday treat for him!
Every other year we got to mil's who is bloody fantastic. She invites the entire family over boxing day, and random cousins who have kids (they are a traveller fairground family on her side, there are THOUSANDS of them!) and makes an obscenely big birthday buffet, party games and general mayhem. The kids get passed around various various lovely gold encrusted gregarious relatives and we generally dont see them till bedtime. It's glorious!

NetworkGuy · 11/12/2010 11:00

headfairy - loved the fact Boxing Day is 'round 2'

For me, as little as possible... Though if it isn't raining, an hour or three walking, listening to some Ian Rankin on MP3 player...

Will enjoy listening to a few of his (audio) books so I can avoid Christmas shows on both radio and TV. Jingly music already getting to me on R4 'DAB radio' adverts.

PressureDrop · 11/12/2010 11:35

Nothing. Maybe a walk in the park in the morning to blow away the cobwebs, but other than that, we are blissfully lazy and spend a lot of time on the sofa, watching TV or DVDs and eating. Bubble and squeak and crispy bacon for brunch, leftovers for dinner, and constant picking at the cheeseboard. Yum.

nextchapter · 11/12/2010 12:34

Usually involves a walk, playing with present and big lunch, ususally ham with bubble and squeak. Just a nice chilled family day

QuickLookBusySanta · 11/12/2010 12:46

We have a really busy time over the christmas period, so Boxing day is usually "PJ day"Xmas Grin We dont actually stay in PJs all day, however we tell everyone we stay in our PJs so noone decides to make a "surprise" visit![I know we are miserable]

We take the dog for a long walk in the forest, light the fire, watch films, play games, and do jigsaws. DH also always makes his awesome cheese and potoato pie to go with the leftover turkey. I'ts our family day and it's our favourite day of the yearXmas Grin

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 11/12/2010 12:48

Get the birthday cake out for Dd! :)

ethelina · 11/12/2010 12:48

If it's nice, a loping walk followed by hot choc/brandy and easy food.

ethelina · 11/12/2010 12:49

Long not loping

merrycompo · 11/12/2010 12:54

When I was young we watched the boxing day hunt in the morning and in the afternoon went to the panto
then had leftover meal that night with cold turkey , stuffing, always trifle and crackers

bytheMoonlight · 11/12/2010 12:54

Big meet up at the local pub with family and friends for a couple of hours, then back home, with some of them in tow for a buffet

upahill · 11/12/2010 12:54

We go walking in the Lake District or if the weather is too bad go somewhere more local but Ilike to get a good 5 to 6 hour walk in and then go to the pub afterwards for a bite to eat. We go home I usually read something while everyone elses watches a bit of tv and I drink lots of Bailey's with Whiskey and eat shortbread (dunked in the afroementioned drink!)

We've been doing this since the boys were toddlers. They are 11 and 14 now.

melezka · 11/12/2010 12:57

strawberry what is winter wonderland and is it nice? We are coming to the big smoke just before Christmas...
