Spending Boxing day at home for the first time. We usually spend it at inlaws but that is not happening this year so need some ideas of what to do.

Hi its a winter christmassy themed event, stalls, rides, ice skating, shows.... Lovely even just to walk around www.hydeparkwinterwonderland.com/information

You can also still get to santas grotto in selfridges as they release some tickets on the day

Have fun!

melezka · 11/12/2010 13:26

Thank you! That looks like fun.

We normally visit inlaws but MIL has terminal cancer and is not expected to make it till Xmas.
So all a bit Sad- not sure how dh will react, as he has no relationship with her.

I'm so sorry deaddei. We went through the same thing a couple of years ago with my lovely Dad.

It's a terrible terrible time, my heart goes out to you.Sad

deaddei :( best wishes to all your family.

panettoinydog · 11/12/2010 17:30

We' re always with family but if we weren't we'd go for a winter walk and plan a nice meal.

nickeldonkeycarrymary · 11/12/2010 17:37

We drive up to Nottingham to see the family. and spend much of the afternoon being bombarded by people who haven't seen us for months (when a drink and a sleep would be nice)
Xmas Grin
i love the madness!

BIL and girlfriend staying Christmas night so hopefully have a lie in as they love playing with the DC. DC adore them. Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

Shortish walk into the fields mid morning, then friends over in the afternoon with their DC, buffet and Prosecco etc. Lazy time, playing with toys, a little telly if anything good on, a few games/puzzles/Lego etc.

This year ill be spending 5 hours in the car...

travelling to my aunt / uncles for a big family Xmas dinner, and then Xmas tea with even more family too.

wish i could teleport myself there instead of driving though

MistletoeAndWhineWithMe · 11/12/2010 20:06

We usually have a chilled out morning and then go to my Grans where all of my extended family will be.
Thi year will be different because we are having dinner at mil's first and then going to Grans. I am also crapping it a bit as my dsis will be there who is not talking to me Hmm.

QLBS - love the idea of PJ day to prevent surprise visitors. Sounds like more families (esp those pestered by MILs) should copy that!

Restrainedrabbit · 12/12/2010 06:55

I prefer boxing day to Xmas! More relaxed :) usually a walk with the dog to a pub for lunch then an afternoon in front of a film with mulled wine whilst kids play with their presents and then eating leftovers-yum!!

MsSanta · 12/12/2010 10:09

We are going to the Park with friends then walk to a pub with a roaring fire then back to ours for buffett style High Tea.

ChasingSquirrels · 12/12/2010 10:15

my boys are going to their dad on Boxing Day morning for the week.
My mum's youngest brother & wife are coming over to stay with my mum for a few days - so I am going there for the day.

SnowMuchToBits · 12/12/2010 10:20

We usually go for a walk in the morning. Then soup, nice bread and salad for lunch. he afternoon can be a bit variable, sometimes just stay in and play with new presents, occasionally panto. Then cold chicken/ham, pickles, baked potatoes, red cabbage for evening meal. Then I like to have a few fireworks in the evening (nothing too noisy, just some pretty ones).
