MIL is getting a DVD box set of Pillars of the Earth (her request) and I have bought her this book - I adore my MIL, she is a wonderful person. The children have also bought her (and mum, for that matter) a truly minging mug that says something like 'grandma is the best present' - their own choice, can you tell? Grin

Mum is much harder - last year, I bought her and dad one of those charity gifts (a teacher's salary as they are both retired teachers).

she has some of her favorite face cream
in a hamper that is going to her and FiL full of their favorite treats from our local smoke house.
plus some local applejuice and lovely foodie bits.

we are getting her the mighty boosh dvd

Jo Manole bath oil and body creme. Plus on the Thornton's website you can create your own chocolate box which whichever chocolates you like and customise the box with a photo of the grankids! Might be worth a look?!

SNOWmami · 07/12/2010 18:22

Ah, nextchapter, that Thorntons thing sounds perfect for my Mum, thank you!

My MIL is no longer around, but FIL's other half is getting a book about famous ship's cats ({fhmm]) - she loves cats and they have a yacht! Also a nice book for her to use as a sailing log book.

nextchapter · 07/12/2010 18:39

Snowmani, its on the Thornton's website on the drop down menu of "our range" an option is "create a chocolate box". That's the one!

neverright the frame is from Ikea, although there is a more expensive version in John Lewis. I bought different craft papers from Hobbycraft, and then set the picture out on Publisher, which was the bit that took hours! I finished it last night, and it looks quite good (if I do say so myself!)

Lonnie · 08/12/2010 20:22

I plan on making mil a brag book if I get the time.. I hope so as she is wonderful. But never wants anything. I will 100% get her some nice chocolate though as she rarely eats it but loves some REALLY good stuff

DrSeuss · 08/12/2010 20:31

I'd like to give her tact and a huge bottle of Valium. Anyone know where I can buy those, please? Xmas Grin

My MIL will be getting a couple of jigsaws (from charity shops, her request not to bother with anything huge as they're skint. Told her not to get us anything, just the kids but she feels tight we don't have something to open from her and her dp)

We'll get her something small to go with them as well, probably some new gardening gloves or something like that.

My MIL's fab, & not at all fussy what she gets really! Which sometimes makes it hard when you ask if she wants or needs anything & she says just buy choccies or slippers for the fifth year running

FairhairedandFrustrated · 08/12/2010 20:51

£30 of vouchers from M&S (they buy their holiday clothes there in January)

A pilgrim necklace & vouchers for a meal out for her & FIL.

They do loads of baby sitting for our 2 DCs throughout the year so we never can find a way to thank them enough.

We've also invited them here for dinner on Christmas day!

figcake · 08/12/2010 20:53

One way ticket to Outer Mongolia? Or perhaps one of my failed-to-rise loaves of bread in return for the (equally inedible) food gift she gave me in advance?

hormonalmum · 08/12/2010 21:39

slippers
handcream
thorntons chocs that she likes
homemade xmas cake
photo of all dc (she has favourites so it is slight dig)

moondog · 08/12/2010 23:19

Hilarious, the MIL into Jack the Ripper.

What are 'skins' for a Wii?

SNOWmami · 09/12/2010 21:23

Re: the lovely aran throw linked by iloveblue upthread - the code luxe20 gives 20% of at Lazeme Xmas Grin Just tried it and it works as long as you register.
