MIL and FIL are getting vouchers for one of their favourite restaurants. Plus some handmade chocolates.

They are really hard to buy for as they have everything they need already!

newpup · 04/12/2010 17:10

Mil and I do not get on so very tricky. This year I found a silver photo tree in Past Times and will put little pics of the Dds in it.

Last year gave her a charm for her charm bracelet which she has not put on it. Pretty sure she did not like it as it was chosen by me! Have given her expensive bath products, cookery books and lovely photo frames before. She is difficult to buy for as she buys alot for herself all year round.

I would like to buy her a one way ticket to Australia but that is another story! Grin

My pils are lovely but an absolute pain to buy gifts for. They are old and v set in their ways and most things they get as gifts, they immediately pass on to somebody else. Eg: loads of times they've given things to dp having told him that his siter/brother bought it for them and we suspect it works the other way too, with our gifts.

For birthdays, we just buy flowers now.

So far for Christmas, we have have bought a tin of cheese biscuits becauase at least bil/sils will eat them if they pass them on! We will get some nice cheese to go with a maybe some flowers! Otherwise, it sounds awful but it's really not worth spending the money.

DH and I, along with his brother and SIL, are getting MIIl and FIL a joint gift of a Canon Ixus digital camera with a decent sized memory card.

iloveblue · 04/12/2010 20:11

I'm putting together a relaxation hamper for her this year. She struggles with sleeping.
I've got a nice basket and will be putting the following in it:

A couple of books
A book light (from M+S)
A scented candle
Some lavender bath fizzes
Maybe an audio book
Hot water bottle
Lavender oil
etc

Last year we bought her this which she loved.

I am barely on speaking terms with my MIL at the moment. FIL is fine but both difficult to buy for and have plenty of money to get whatever they want anyway.

Was debating doing a donation to a couple of charities that are meaningful to them and giving them a framed photo of DD - would that be weird?

MrsLucasNorth · 05/12/2010 07:52

Oooh newpup! I might pinch your photo tree idea for MIL!

newpup · 05/12/2010 10:33

Be my guest MrsLucasNorth. They come in two different sizes. Was going to sit down today and print out some pics to put in it.

My pil are so difficult to buy for as like you we do not really get on and they too have plenty of money to buy whatever they want all year.

I was quite pleased with the photo tree myself! Smile

pugsandseals · 05/12/2010 10:43

My MIL loves cooking so I've got her a beautiful gift basket from the oil & vinegar shop. I'm feeling very proud of myself for finding something a bit different as I usually don't have a clue!

MrsCratchit · 05/12/2010 10:48

Mine has asked for moisturiser and 'real' talcolm powder (the type with a proper powder puff), which is seemingly quite difficult to find...!

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 05/12/2010 10:49

from the dc MIL (and mum for that matter) are getting Neal Yard bath foam as they both like baths, from us she is getting brora cashmere wristwarmers (bought in sale last year, seriously great gift to stock up on in sale down to £15 from £32) and I think a book.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 05/12/2010 10:50

iloveblue - oh that aran blanket looks lovely, I want one now!

brookeslay · 05/12/2010 11:28

mousymouse · 05/12/2010 11:30

mousymouse · 05/12/2010 11:32

oh, and dh gives them broadband access so that we can skype (they live overseas)

charlieandlola · 05/12/2010 11:45

Golf balls. Her request.

CDMforever · 05/12/2010 19:08

This year I have made up hampers of yummy foods and booze for both my DPs and PILs. Mostly stuff from M and S and Waitrose. It will be very different and they'll obviously only have one big thing to open...unless I wrap each item individually or maybe that would look weird??

QuoththeRaven · 06/12/2010 10:07

dressing gown. its what she wanted, although not in the colour she asked for as that was bloody impossible to find (in our price limit)

to be fair though i phoned her while we were shopping, gave her the choices and she chose it lol

foggyfig · 06/12/2010 10:57

newpup

If your mil is that bad, we won't want her in Australia. Grin

tasjaSAmuminSA · 06/12/2010 10:57

NOTHING - we are spending christmas with my parents, and DH lost his job so not much money to go around. We don't buy for my PIL and they don't buy for us.

freefruit · 06/12/2010 11:48

Nothing
She's a nasty piece of work

Although come to think of it maybe a photo of my dcs (she always fails to hide how much she prefers her other grandkids)?

Alternatively maybe a pair of cheap socks the 99p shop might sell some just like the ones she gave me the year she insisted on living in our house for 3 months

No I think I will steal someone elses idea and get knicker elastic Wink

ethelinaTheBloodyGreatXmasElf · 06/12/2010 11:54

MIL is a keen gardener and loves the handcreams from Crabtree & Evelyn to use afterwards so she always gets a set of those. She also loves anything to do with Jack the Ripper so we are getting a her tickets to one of the London tours. We will go in a group sometime early next year. Xmas Smile MiL's easy to buy for, I wish my mum was. I have NO idea what to get her.

Mum has already let slip what our present will be - Money to go towards tickets for one of the olympic events. ( Smile but a bit Hmm ). She wanted to actually get tickets but apparently you have to register in a draw and find out if you have one nearer the time.

heymango · 06/12/2010 12:00

The DCs have decorated a plate with handprints and their names/ages - looks quite impressive!

Some Cath Kidston notelets (don't look at the Chav Chic thread though!)

A homemade picture that will hopefully look something like this;

Foggyfig Grin

Sorry, Australia has done nothing to deserve to my mil! Maybe Outer Mongolia instead then!!

neverright · 07/12/2010 09:24

Lovely picture heymango. Any top tips where to start?
