I left DD's lovely Hello Kitty birthday cake out on Saturday night, so I didn't forget to take it to her party on Sunday. Just as we were about to leave, i noticed a small hole in the corner of the box, and holes in the icing.

well, some were wrapped in paper to protect them, I think they decided it was much better used for nesting.

I am soooooo fucked off, some of them are beyond slavaging, and those that are, I am now convinced are germified and so unusable, bearing in mind the un-washability of many of the decorations.

They eat anything!

We have either mice or a rat at the mo - getting in by the bath pipes we think somewhere, then scuttling under the bath, into the boiler cupboard (which is in the kitchen) to chew some disintigrating wood in there.

Can hear it, ferreting about. Blocked some holes up to try and keep it out - convinced it's a rat though - just sounds too loud to be a tiny mouse.

But ... my baubles are PLASTIC! Ewww at mouse wee.

LOTF - if you can hear it chewing, it's probably a rat, yes. According to the EHO who came to deal with my vermin problem - I told her I could hear them gnawing at night (they were making a Jerry-type hole in the skirting board/floor) and she said that it would be rats. She was right.

I dunno about this hearing them thing.

We had one in here last week. I think it was cold and randomly seeking shelter, or brung in by useless cat, then lost...anyway, heard a tremendous scratching/clawing/clunking noise behind the cupboard.
Got hoover out, stuck hoover behind cupboard.

Tiny (ok, moderate sized) mouse was found in the trap the following morning. There have been no further deaths or noises.

I'm praying we're alroght now - I know the damage they can do, it's soul destroying.

You have to get on top of it quickly with mices. A few weeks of 'Oh how sweet, ignore them' is very unwise. It's when you notice your phone isn't working for 3 days that you realise they've eaten the cable.

DH has set them now, and also set one downstiars....one of the poison-type ones where theytake the food and take ot home to share, and hopefull kill them all.

Thing to watch though with the poison, is they turn up unexpectedly in odd places, dead and rather whiffy.

I had some in carrier bags of papers, one died in a jumper in a drawer - which I then wore, wondering why it smelt a bit funny. then washed. Then put away, still smelly, and wore again only to have a mouse fall out of it, quite, quite dead.

I had a mild form of PTSD for some months after that. Now I use the ones where you load with chocolate spread and sit and wait for the bang. At least you know where the sweet little bastards are.

Mice ate their way through my loft one yr. Little fuckers. They will destroy pretty much anything. I now have one of those ultra sonic things up there and touch wood we seem to be critter free.

Beware of the poison route in the loft....if they die in their nest and its in the loft, the decaying mice will stink to high heaven. I set humane traps, they like Mars bars....

have checked with DH....poison ones downstairs, trappy ones upstairs. he said the same, does not want rotting ones in the loft. why he therefore wants them downstairs tho.....
